Chapter 15
Five days had passed since my heat began. It passed three days after it came, meaning Thomas and me was expecting a child. My mind hadn’t processed that yet. Thomas had been going on and on about having another child. He had mentioned wanting a daughter, but he would be happy with a boy. I wasn’t sure what I wanted. Guess it didn’t matter long as he, or she, was healthy.
“Dad’s going to bring Joshua in an hour.” Thomas laid down beside me and rested his hand over my stomach. “He’s going to be so excited.”
“Who?”
“Joshua.”
“You think so?”
“Yes. Dad said he asked why his dad needed a week alone.”
“What did he tell him?”
“He explained what was going on.”
“What!” Joshua was too young for such a life lesson.
“That’s dad.” Thomas smiled. “He told me when I was five.”
Lord. “You okay with that?”
“Not really, but it’s done.” He squezzed me. “I should have expected him to, but . . .”
“He won’t be telling ours that young.”
“He won’t?”
“Nope. I’ll strangle him.”
Thomas’ chuckle had me laughing at my own words. I knew I might not like it, but if I went into heat, and there was no way around me doing so, unless I was pregnant, that his dad would have to watch our kid. I had no family.
“Shit.”
“What, baby?”
“I have no one to share my news with.”
“You don’t want to tell your dad.”
“Yeah, but he won’t take my call.”
“He might.”
“I tried.” I rolled onto my side, facing him as I buried my face into his chest.
“His loss.” He hugged me tighter. “We can share it with the Coven. They will be thrilled.”
“I hope so.” I still feared the coven throwing a fit. More likely the Elders would come storming in and strip Thomas of his title, but he swore that wouldn’t happen. All I could do was pray it wouldn’t.
“Come on, let’s shower before Joshua comes home.”
Sounded good to me. I stood and made my way over to the suitcase that Jessica, a co-worker of mine packed for me. On the second day of my heat, Thomas had sent for her to fetch me some clothes and. He’d had his second report to Dallas that I would return to work as soon as I was able to. He’d asked what was wrong, and Thomas’ second had told him. I wasn’t sure how he would react when I returned to work, but I would deal with that then. Right then, all I cared about was spending what little alone time we had left with each other. Once Joshua arrived there’d be a storm of questions from a young child.

Chapter 14
I was standing in the middle of Thomas’ dark blue wallpapered bedroom when he walked in. His arms went around me and pulled me back into him. “I can’t wait to see your body.” His hands ran under my shirt and pushed it up.
I lifted my arms, letting him drag the offending material over my head. My heat was soaring higher and higher just from being around him. Him touching me meant it would only get where my skin burned until he filled me. It wasn’t a good feeling unless I had someone to relieve my need. I had not missed the effects of the heat while in the Human World, but I knew the feeling of them from before. Wasn’t a pleasant one then, but this time . . .
“Come back to me, baby.”
His fingers unsnapped my pants and tugged the zipper down. His hand slipped inside my jeans, gripping my throbbing cock, stroking up once, twice, squezzing.
“Shit . . . Thomas.”
“Feel good, baby.”
My head dropped against his shoulder as I kicked my shoes off and wiggled my hips until the jeans fell away. Lord, I was glad I went without boxers. Gave me less clothes for him to worry with. I spun in his arms, shoving my hands under his shirt, shoving it up and over his head. My lips closed over his. My tongue slipped inside his mouth as my hand fumbled with ridding him of his jeans. I need skin-to-skin. Then. There was no other choice. I needed the burning to cease.
“Please.”
“I’ve got you, baby. Let me . . .”
I thrust my hips so our cocks rubbed against one another.
“Bed. Now.”
We pretty much ran over to the bed, him shoving me down, face first onto it. I heard the drawer open as one hand ran across my bare ass.
“I’ve wanted to feel this since the first time I saw you.”
“Took you long enough.”
“Had to wait until you were ready.”
“Past ready.” By three or four days. Longer if I had really admitted it to myself.
“I need, my hips jerked forward, giving me the pressure I sought, but not the relief my body needed.
A top snapped open and cool gel dripped over my crack as it was spread open and a finger came to rest over my pucker. My holed fluttered, welcoming the finger that pressed into it.
“God . . . Yes . . . More . . . Now. No prep.”
“Won’t hurt you.”
“Won’t. Promise. You know that.” He did. He’d been with a Magical Being while he suffered his heat. It’s how Joshua came to be, but that dind’t matter. All that mattered was him getting deep in me.
“You sure?”
“Get that fat cock of yours inside me. Now.”
That was the last coherent words that left my mouth. He thrust in, gripping my heat, pulling right back out as fast as he entered me. My heat’s slick gave him all the lubrication he needed. My holed knew who it belonged to. My heart did to. I felt the attracdtion and the dire heat snap into place. He was my alpha. He was taking what belonged to him. He was going to breed me. He was going to take care of me. My mind, body, and soul knew it. There was no objection from any part of me.
His ball slapped against my skin. My wetness left behind a sucking sound as his brusing grip on my hips tightened as his speed picked up. It wouldn’t be much longer and . . .
“Yes . . .  Damn, baby. That’s it. Suck my cock into your moist heat. I need to . . . I’m going to . . .” A hand gripped my cock, stroking once, twice . . . “Now.”
It was all my body required. “Fuck!”
“That’s it, baby. Let me feel you gripping my cock.”
Heat filled my body as one last grunt left Thomas. Moment later, his sweaty body pressed me into the mattress, right over the wet spot I’d made.
“Uck!”
“Sorry, baby.” He lifted, making me groan as he left my body.
He disappeared and moments later arms slipped around me, lifting me and laying me on the other side of the bed. “Be back in a second.”
“Okay.” Sleep tugged at me, but I felt him slid in beside me and mutter for me to rest until I needed him again.
I knew I would, just not how soon. I could all ready feel the heat building in my body, but it required rest as well.

Chapter 13
He loves me? Shit. Did I love him? I wasn’t sure. Was sure I was attracted . . . hell, it was more than attraction. I dreamed of him each night. Saw him and Joshua at my side. Dreamed of us having a babe swaddled in my arms as he peered down at me and our child. I longed to feel his hands grazing over my body. Gripping my hips as he thrust deep into me while my heat soared at its peek. I did . . . what else was it? Lust didn’t fit. Lust did not come with images of children. Nope. That was a long life with someone. That meant . . .
“You love me?”
“Yes, baby. I do. I have since the moment you stubbed up and refused to just believe that we would not treat you different for your decision to protect Kyle. Your connection with Joshua only drew me deeper to you. Locked us together for the rest of our lives, even if you refuse me know, I will always love you. There will be no one else for me.”
“You can’t kno - -“
“I do know it.” He wrapped his arms around me and yanked me into his body, sealing our lips together.
My mouth opened to him, without any complaint. I wanted him. Wanted what we could have. Wanted to know how it would feel to have him in the most primal way. He was mine. I was his. That’s what he was telling me. There was no denying it. Dallas would not . . .
“Fuck.”
“What?”
“Dallas.”
“So.”
“I agreed to a date with him.”
“Cancel.”
“It won’t be fair.”
“I can’t . . .” Thomas pressed his forehead against me, nuzzling my nose. “I can’t stand to think of you . . . Please cancel.”
“How can . . . I have no execuse.”
“Yes you do. Me.”
“That’s not fair.”
“Is.” Thomas tugged me towards the living room, pressing me down until I sat. He sat beside me, taking me into his arms, all but laying me across him. “I forbid you from going . . .” he sniffed the air and slammed his mouth over mine as his hands ran down my back, cupping my ass. Pretty much squezzing until I whimpered.
I wasn’t sure what was going on until he ran his hand under my shit and electric current soared up my back and around my stomach, settling in my groin. Shit. My heat kicked in early. I was never early.
“You going nowhere,” Thomas thrust his hip up, “but to my bed.” He tapped my hip and pushed me up. “I’ll call dad and have him come get Joshua.”
“No.”
“Why not? You have to have . . .”
“I know, but . . .”
“Not this again. I want you. You want me. More know than before.”
“I did. I do. Just if I wasn’t . . .”
“I’d still be taking you to my bed tonight, even if I had to suffer with you going out with Dallas once.”
“You would?”
“I would.” He yanked me back for a kiss as he pulled is phone from his pocket. “Now, upstairs. Please.”
“You got it.” I wasn’t sure how wise it was, but I sure was what I wanted. Plus, I had an execuse not to date Dallas. Once I chose me and Alpha it was clear to everyone that I was off the market. For some time at least. “Wait.” I paused at the foot of the stairs. “You know what this means, right.”
“Yes. Get. I can’t wait to see you swell with my child.”
Damn.

Chapter 12
I wanted him to, but . . .There was no way I could allow him to disgrace his stature among the coven. Not only would the other coven members disagree with such actions, but the Elders would throw a fit. They had a status to uphold and him being a former Disgraced Magical Being already was one strike against him. I could not allow him to add a second one by taking care of me while my heat roared through me. I either hit it off with Dallas, or I suffered through being locked away. Neither might appeal to me, but those were my only options.
“You can’t.” I rested my forehead against his, taking in his soft masucaline scent one last time before I pushed to my feet. “If I don’t hit it off with Dallas, then I’ll keep myself in my house.”
I made it to the doorway, before he halted my hasty retreat. “I can. I want to. I will.” He spun me and had me pressed into his chest. “You and Joshua is all that matter to me.”
“Joshua is all that matters to you.” I pressed my palm against his chest and pushed, but he refused to let me move. “He is what matters the most. Not me. I’m a nobody. I’m nothing. Just a Disgraced Magical . . .”
Wet moist heat surrounded my lips as his tongue darted into my mouth, silencing me. Stealing any other objection I had. My body melded itself against his as he marched me towards the front door. The hardwood of the door pressed into my back, but no pain came from the forcefulness of the sudden move. All I felt was Thomas’ body heat seeping into my skin as more heat seared down my throat as he moaned into my mouth. I wasn’t sure what was hotter, him consuming me, or how I felt the throbbing of his cock pressed into my thigh. Before I knew it, groans of scorching pleasure were ripped from my core and my hips thrust into Thomas.
Breathing became my-near impossible, which was the only reason I pulled back from him, but even then, he kept a tight hold on me. Refusing to let me part more than a centimeter from him.
“Do you understand now?”
No. Yes. He was hot for me. I was hot for him. No denying that. We had passion. Lots of it. Still, didn’t mean it could go anywhere, which meant he could not aid me through my heat. The one thing that had to happen to rid me of the storm of my tri-quarter heat was either me becoming pregnant, or a few days of hotter than breathing sex. Either meant Thomas could not be the one to help me through it, even as much as I’d enjoy him being there.
“Doesn’t matter, Thomas.”
“It does.”
“No it doesn’t.” I pressed harder against his chest. “You have to think about Johsua and helping me through is too big of a risk.”
“It is not.”
“It is.”
“Why do you think so?” He moved back, but not enough I could slip around him, or open the door and escape. Not that I was trying to. My body and mind wanted more of him. Wanted all of him. I might not be able to have him during my heat, but that didn’t mean . . . what the hell. It did mean I couldn’t have him then.
“You have too many people to think of to run the risk of taking me during my heat.”
“I have no one but Joshua and you.”
“You have the entire coven.”
“What do they . . . Shit. You think . . . that’s why you started the spill about being . . . you have to start believing that you are more than some title, baby.” He reached for me, but I shook my head. “You are so much more than that. I wish you would start to feel it. Learn it. Me and Joshua, and most of the coven member will not care about some title the Elders stuck you with.”
“They will though.”
“What do they . . . Crap, honey, they know what I am. They don’t care that I lead. Why would they care if I found someone to love again and I do love you.”

Chapter 11
Neither options appealed to me. Well . . . one did, but the one I wanted was off limits for me.
“What’s up?” Thomas sat his cup on the coffee table as he took the empty spot beside me on the sofa.
Was he sitting closer than normal?
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Something did.” Thomas pushed back a piece of my hair.
I went stiff. Not because he touched me. Nope. Because my cock twitched.
“You don’t . . .” Thomas pulled is hand back from me, frowning. “Sorry. I didn’t . . .” the man’s nose twitched as he repositioned himself. “I’m a great listener. Ask anyone. They’ll tell me.”
“Course you are.” I smiled at him, taking in his ski-slope nose and trianagle shaped brown eyes. “Have to be.”
“Why’s that?”
“Who you are.” Did Thomas have to sit so one knee was spread wide?
“Huh?”
“Coven Leader.”
“That’s not why.” Thomas leaned back, stretching his tight blue shirt across his broad shoulder, making my cock thicken as it twitched again. “Just who I am.”
That was the problem. If he wasn’t the coven leader then I could have asked him out. I knew there was a connection between us. One I wanted to explore.
“There you go again.” Thomas sighed. “Tell me what happened. What has gotten you into this state of mind. Who hurt you?”
“No one.” Myself.
“Then what is it?”
“Just an emotional day.” Truth didn’t hurt anyone. Talking didn’t either. Not like the coven leader didn’t need to know that he might not have to make sure I remained inside my house for two weeks. “I finally decided to take an alpha up on his offer.”
“Who?”
What was up? Thomas had two tones. Friendly and leader. He hardly ever fell into leader tone with anyone. Only done so with me once. And that one worded question held nothing but pure order. I sat up taller and took in a deep breath.
“Dallas, Sir.”
“Don’t call me sir.” Thomas shook his head, taking a deep long breath. Whatever reason he took it did nothing to ease the tension across his face. “Why?”
A demand again. Shit. I was in the doghouse and didn’t have a clue why. “He seems nice, Coven Leader Thomas.”
“Stop that.” Thomas frowned downed at his hands. “He is.” Another deep breath. “Are you attracted to him?”
Another demand. Wasn’t how I expected this discussion with Thomas to go. “Not really.”
A heavy sigh slipped free from his thin lips as they turned up for a split second, before he locked eyes with me. “Why go out with him then?”
“My heat time is nearing.”
“You want to choose him as your Alpha?”
Wow! Red streaks flashed across Thomas’ brown eyes as they widened.
“No, Sir.”
“Stop the sir shit.” Thomas leaned his head back. My tongue stung with the urge to trace the vein on the side of his neck. “We are friends. More than that, I thought.”
“We are friends.”
“Then why the formal addressing?”
“You are giving me orders.”
“I’m . . . Shit.” He ran his hands over his face. “Didn’t mean to. This is . . . Was not . . . Is the upcoming heat the reason behind this decision to date?”
“Yes.” No. Had to get any idea of me and him out of my head.
“You just lied to me.”
“I did . . .” My time to stretch my neck.
“Why the sudden shift in your state of mind?”
“Thomas . . . I hate to be locked away. Always did.” Dad made sure that I was stashed away for a month and half, instead of the two week period. Two weeks before it came about and two weeks after it left. All the coven knew was that I took a vacation trip to my mother’s family three times a year.
“No reason to decide date right before your heat time.”
“I’d rather know something about the alpha that I might spend my heat with.”
“You are going to chose him to please your heat cycle?”
“Sure beats being locked away for two weeks.”
“Why him, though. I thought . . .” I watched as his hand lifted, inhaling as his hand cupped my chin. “I thought . . .” my breath hitched as his body leaned into mine. “You would . . .” I lost my ability to breath when his tongue traced my lower lip, “allow me to . . .” his mouth closed over mine, stealing my heart until he pulled back. Then it began to pound. “Take care of you then.”

Chapter 10
Over the last month I’d found myself getting out more and more. Mingling among the single alphas, but no one appealed to me. My heart no longer whined for Kyle, but my memories of our love had not faded from my memories. Wasn’t sure if it ever would. Sure kept me from being attracted to an alpha. Some showed interest in me, but no spark came so I nicely declined with a promise to reconsider.
Half of my supper meals had been spent with Thomas, yes I’m finally comfortable calling him that, and his son. We’d eat a nice supper, play a game or two with Joshua then Thomas put Joshua to bed. Afterwards we spent the rest of the night and sometimes early morning hours, talking. No specific topic. We’d discuss a show, football game, watch a movie, or simply sit in silence and sip our coffee or tea. After each visit I left and slept with no dreams of Kyle. A reprieve. Nothing like waking from a loving dream only to find yourself in a reality where that much love would never be again.
That night was going to be another one of those dreamless nights It eased me as much as breathing in Kyle’s colnge had.
“Hey, there big man.” I hefted Joshua over my shoulder as he rounded the corner of the living room wall.
“Bout time you got here.”
“Joshua.”
“Thomas, he’s fine. I am a bit late.”
“A problem on the way over?”
I shook my head and sat Joshua back on the floor. He took hold of my hand and then snatched Thomas’ and tugged us down the short hallway.
“No. Just got out of the kitchen later than normal.”
“Rush before you left?”
“Something like that.” I hoped Thomas took the hint that it wasn’t something to discuss in front of his son. He must have, because he pointed at the chair as he walked over to the stovetop and lifted a pot of the burner.
“Supper is simple tonight.” He sat a huge cast iron pot of spaghetti in the middle of the table. “Take your seat while I get the bread.”
“Need me to get the drinks?”
“I done them earlier.” Joshua gripped the edge of the chair and scrunched it across the floor as he scooted it under the table.
“You did?”
“Dad let me fill the cups with the ice tea we made last night.”
“Bet it’s perfect.”
“You know it is.” Thomas smiled over at me, making my heart skip a beat or two. Something else that’d been happening more and more over the last couple of nights with Thomas. I wasn’t sure why. I mean why would Thomas, a head-strong Coven Leader be drawn to me. Whoever he chose would be someone who could stand at his side while he led the coven. That wasn’t me. I was nothing but a Disgraced Magical Being, even if I wasn’t treated like one. A Coven might allow themselves be led by someone who worked their way up to leadership rank and then took back over his birth-given right, but they would not be kind to him if he took up with another Disgraced Magical Being. Specially an Omega one. Nope. Wouldn’t happen. Wasn’t going to even go to allow myself to think that it would. It’s why I squashed the first inkling of attraction flickered through my mind. Not that Thomas would have treated me poorly. He would have considered me an option. It was just the type of man he was. He’d give anyone that found a spark to him a chance, but there was no reason to even to let him know such existed inside me. Nope. Friends. That all that could be between us. It had taken me a couple of nights to grasp that concept. Once my mind and heart came to an agreement, I told myself to buck up and pick an alpha. It’s why I was late tonight. I’d called up Dallas, the Chef, and told him I had reconsidered his offer to take me out. He’d been thrilled and chatted on and on about how we’d have a great time going to the dance tomorrow night. The coven held monthly dances for the single and paired couples. Most people attended and they were a blast even if you didn’t come with someone. I’d never danced with anyone at them, but I’d gone to one or two and sat and chatted with some friends.
“Something wrong with the meal?”
I smiled over at Thomas and shook my head as I scooped a forkful into my mouth. Rest of the meal flew by and since it was so late when I got there we forwent the game night with Joshua. Young man was exhausted and all but fell asleep at the table. Thomas had carted him straight to bed while I fixed us a pot of coffee.
“He’s out like a light.” Thomas’s arm brushed against mine as he picked up his cup of coffee. “What happened?”
“What do you mean?” I took a sip and then carried my cup into the living room.
“You were later than normal. Not that it was a problem then you were pretty absent from the meal.”
Crap. Leave it to me. I knew the decision I made earlier in the day was the right one, but my heart still wasn’t into it, but . . . time was running out. In two weeks I’d either have to be locked away for a couple of weeks, or have an alpha lined up to help me through my Omega Heat. What to do?

Chapter 9
“You do realize that I will have to be secluded in a month or so.”
Coven Leader Oaks’ shoulder lifted and fell. Hard. “I do. I had hoped that you would have accepted that you would never be able to regain your love for your chosen one.”
“Others words you had hoped I would chose and Alpha before then.”
“No.” he shook his head. “I had hoped . . . Never mind. When you need the time off, just let me know. I will clear it with your boss.”
“Thanks.”
“Now, how about supper?”
“Fine. I will join you.”
Wasn’t sure why he wanted me to. I was nothing to him. Nothing to Joshua, but the kid was adorable and it wasn’t like I had time to carry what little food I had from the other place here.

Chapter 8
Damn. That was the best fitting word I could come up with. The house wasn’t huge, but far from the one room run-down shack I’d been living in. The yellow and white trimmed two story house had a fresh coat of paint and flowered curtains shinned through the front windows.
“You can take down what you don’t’ like and give it back to the Storage Shed. They can reuse them for when we have to prepare another house.”
I walked into the house, taking note of the huge open floor plan. The size reminded me of the house I’d left behind. Not quite as big, but more than suitable for one person, even a newly paired couple. Not hat I would ever be that again. I’d lost my true love. There would never be another. Not for me. Didn’t want one either.
“The bedroom is upstairs. It has a bathroom of it’s own. There is a huge basement for storage.”
“Why give me such a nice place?”
“It is not a joke. I promise. This is stand housing for all single and newly pairs coven members.”
“Nice.”
“I told you that you are no different than any other Magical Being under me.”
The rest of his muttered response was not missed, but all it did was confuse me more. Oh, I’d heard about the type of Magical Being he referenced me to, but he was majorly mistaken. I was not a Jumper. Not someone strong enough to leap from bottom rank to the top level if I had been rated upon gaining my powers. I had been ranked into level eight when I was twelve, but all that power I had then faded away the moment I chose the Human World. It would not every come back to me. Oh, I would regain some of it over time, but never the full amount I had grew into.
“I came over to tell you that we are having a ranking in two weeks.”
“I heard that.”
“Truly, glad you are making friends. It will help you more than you know.” He snatched up the suitcase.
“Hey. That’s mine.”
“I’m just going to put it upstairs.”
“I can do that myself.”
“I know, but I need to.”
“Why?”
“When you are ready to know, you will know.”
“What!” I shouted as he topped the stairs and faded.
Several second later he descened the steps and made his way to the door. “I thought you were ready, but I can see you are still struggling with settling in.”
“You mean letting go of the Human World?”
“No.” Coven Leader Oaks sighed. “Yes, but I meant letting go of your love. As much as you hate to hear this, it will happen. Even by your choice, or by nature taking effect. It’s simply the way the Elders control those who had to return from the Human World.”
Another fact I knew, which was why I had been trying to find someone that interested me. Larry wasn’t someone who did. In fact, that guy freaked me out.
“Just make sure when you do start dating that you have to  be careful with your choices. I may run the area so that there are no such thing as a Disgraced Magical Being, but I still have some that do not quite believe the way I do. They do not go against me, but they do test the water at times.”
Other words, they would harm him, or use him to show others their position on people like him. And if they did, Coven Leader Oaks could only discipline them in small manners, because of the Elders rules.
“Let me guess, Larry is one of those people.”
“Yes.”
“How do you know?”
“He’s done so before.”
“Is your second one of those people?”
“Looks like it. He’s never showed so much distain before, and I will find out what his issue is. I fear it is one more personal than related to the reason you joined our coven.”
“Like what?”
“Fear.”
“Why would he fear me? I am no one.”
“You were though.”
“Huh?”
“You were the heir to your father’s leader position.”
“Was.”
“Doesn’t matter. That means you could work your way up like I did. Take over from me at some point and I fear my second is afraid that you will try to overtake me.”
“Wrong thinking.” Majorly. “I never want to lead. I might have been strong, but I am an Omega and no one would follow me. Not even if I had an Alpha beside me. Just like you said, not all believe in Disgraced Magical Beings leading, or breathing for that matter.”
“They do here.”
“Not all. You said so yourself.”
“Join me and Joshua for supper tonight?”
The shift in topic didn’t shock me. Simply told me he knew I was right and would not admit he had said such. Like any Alpha would do. Alpha weren’t rare among the Magical World. Omega weren’t either for the most part. Among the coven they were, which is why my father had kept that fact hidden, but I knew the Elders would have informed Coven Leader Oaks of my status. If others found out, the Alpha would go into a frenzy trying to claim me. It was ultimately my choice and I had done decided that I would not let my hormones dictate me. Nope. I would choose only when I was ready to. Not before. Knowing it would happen was just another reason I had been trying to convince my brain to date. I knew my cycle was coming and when it did, I would have to be secluded or choose an alpha. I knew I was no where ready for that, so . . .
“Jay?”

Chapter 7
Safe? What in the world? Why would he have to do such? He knew his coven like the back of his hands. Or he should have. From what little time I spent with him, I knew he was a solid leader. He might not lead like my father had, but he knew how to take care of his people. Was a way more open leader than any other I knew.
“I can see you are not buying this, and I understand why.”
“You are right. I am not buying it.”
“If you understood my comment then you would know why I am following you so closely. You’d have no other options but to do the same to me.”
“What!” I jerked my suitcase backwards as he tried to take it. “I got it.”
Coven Leader Oaks held his hands up and headed towards the door. “We’ll talk more once I get you into your new house.”
“Whatever.” I longed to tell him this discussion was over, but I knew better than to be that disrespectful.
“Attitude still counts.”
“Not in your coven. Or have your rules changed all ready?”
His deep, rich chuckle sent shards of sharp currents down my arms and over my chest until it settled in my groin.
“You do feel it.”
“What?”
“You are not as in the dark as I believed.”
“In the dark?”
“When we get to your place.”
Right. No one needed to know what Coven Leader Oaks spoke to the newest Disgraced Magical Being about. He had a reprensation to uphold. The rest of the walk was made in silence. Not welcoming silence. Nope. It gave my mind too much time to think and what came to mind did not set well with me. I wasn’t even sure half of what it came up with was possible. Some wasn’t at all. Some were things I did not want to be true. Some were things that I would never let come to pass. No matter what.
“Here we are.”

Chapter 6
“Jay,” Coven Leader snapped his finger in front of my face.
I shook my head and lowered it. “Sorry, Coven Leader - -“
“Thomas, please.”
“Sorry, Sir.” No way would I be able to address him so informal. I could all but feel my dad slapping me around for doing something so disgraceful. Hear him yelling me at how much like a true Disgraced Magical Being I was acting like. Didn’t want to give the men’s mental voice any validity, so I did what was best. Okay, ignoring the coven leader might not be wise, but it at least had me feeling more like a true bed Magical Being. Something I needed more and more each day. Not so much because I liked being one, but because I had to have some kind of identity since the rest of my life was going to be spent in the Magical World.
“None of the Sir, bit either. Just plain Thomas. We clear?”
Shit. No there was no way I could get by with addressing him by his proper title. He’d made it an order, even if he had not issued the order command. Nope. He’d done so like any good leader did. Insuinated and left it up to you to follow his unspoken order, or face punishment. Another trap I would not fall into.
“Jay, tell me how much money you have put into this place?” a beep from his phone gave me another second or two to avoid answering. “Your new place is being arranged. Now, onto my question.”
“About one hundred.”
“How many man hours?”
“Uh . . . Don’t know.”
“Then you’ll get paid for three weeks worth of construction labor and reimbursed the hundred. It will be in your account by tomorrow evening.”
“That’s not - -“
“It is necessary. I have no idea what my second was thinking. He knows better than this shit.” Coven Leader Oaks ran a hand over his face, muttering to himself. “Let me help you pack your belongings and then we can head over to your new place.”
“I can get it, Sir.” The faint huff had me backtracking on my response. “I mean . . . Thomas.”
“Wasn’t so hard was it?”
Matter of opinion. Sure took some of my pride, which I had very little left of. I needed every ounce of it I could mustard just make it through the day.
“Let’s talk while we pack.” He walked over to the small area off to the left and pulled opened the small dresser that held the few clothes I’d been allowed to bring with me. I’d yet to buy me anymore. Been focused on making the place livable.
“Thomas, seriously, Sir, I can pack up what I have.” I took the shirt from him and placed it back in the drawer. “You take a seat and we’ll talk while I work.”
“Fine.” He shook his head, muttering again. “I had hoped to find that you were enjoying your new place. I knew you’d made some friends and had been joining in with some evening activities.”
Course he knew. Every time I was among my friends, or outside of the house I saw him watching me. If that had been the case then . . . “How did you not know where I was living?”
“I’ve never been here. Never asked my second where he placed you.”
“You’ve been following me.” I hadn’t meant to bring that up, but it made a good point. I did not like being tested and that’s what this felt like. He’d followed me around to see how I’d react. My lack of telling him of my displeasure if my housing had told him something and he was ready to bust my balls about it. Sure seemed like something my father would have done, but I had not expected it from Coven Leader Oaks. Not after the way he spoke about Disgraced Magical Being being just another Magical Being.
“I . . . You spotted me. You are truly your father’s son.”
“I am not.”
Biggest insult the man could have given me. My father was a bastard. Strong one, it’s why he kept his position among his coven for so long. His entire family had managed to do so. Many fought off other to do so, but there was never a chance of his family being dethroned. Or there hadn’t been until his father came about. His father had given birth to a strong ass Magical Being, one more powerful than him, but . . . According to my father I threw his entire families desires away with one decision. Hadn’t been how I saw it. I knew that I would lose all but a small among of my power when I chose the Human World, but that hadn’t mattered to me. I never longed to follow in my fahter’s footsteps. My decision to join the Human World was not a simple rebellious act like my father thought. Noep. It was a way for me to have a life of my own. A life without having to be worried about how others lived. What troubles other got into. Not having to be rude to someone simply because they failed at living in the Human World. His belief in me being rebellious was why my father had not qualms about announcing his second son as his successor. My brother didn’t even carry a tenth of the power I had. I even had more than he did while living in the Human World, but that hadn’t mattered to my father. He wanted to show his family and every coven member how he treated those who threw away their lives. And that’s what he believed I did.
“I was not checking up on you.”
“Then why follow me.” I shut the suitcase and hefted it off the bed.
“I needed to ensure you were safe.”

Chapter 5
I’d been getting more and more involved over the last month. As I interacted with more coven members, I found out that what Coven Leader Oaks told me was pure truth. Most people did not view me as a Disgraced Magical Being. There were a few that sidestepped me when I approached but none spoke a word against me. Not even the  second in command, who had come into the kitchen to check on my . . . he called it ability, but I heard how he phrased it. Didn’t bother me though. What did was the heart filled ache that graced my mind every night when darkness fell. Being in the coven didn’t bother me as much as the loneliness that plagued my heart until it throbbed until I had no other choice but to scream into my pillow. The man who owned my heart was in the Human World. Where I should have been. His life moved forward. Mine would not. No one would replace him. I’d done my best not to put out the on the hunt vibe, but I must have failed.
A dark-skinned man came up and took the seat beside me. He was halfway into his introduction spill before I even realized he’d joined me. Like most of the time, when I wasn’t working, or buying supplies to spruce up my place, or with one of my few friends, I found myself reliving some event that me and Kyle attended. Wasn’t good for me, but I had not been able to stop from doing so. My mind and downtime did not work. It went right back to Kyle and our life. It wasn’t until the man offered me his hand to shake that I spotted the huge goofy smile stretched across his face. What alerted me to the man’s true intention was when he winked at me and scooted a bit close to me on the bench. Took every ounce of restraint I had to keep from jumping up from the picnic table. I did not want to be disrespectful. The man had done nothing wrong, but take an interest in me. Wasn’t his fault that my heart could not leave the Human World.
“Larry,” the rich deep voice flowed around me as the guy beside me stiffened.
I didn’t have to look up to know who had came up behind us. I’d seen him around several times each day. He might have no qualms about Disgraced Magical Beings, but he sure kept a watch over them. Or he was me. Was he afraid of me? Fear I would try to do as he had? Try to take his coven from him. Wasn’t happening. If I’d wanted that I would have just stay in the Magical World to start with. What I didn’t know was why Larry, the guy who’d been about to ask me out, became on edge when Coven Leader Oaks arrived.
“Thomas.” Larry took hold of my hand and gave it a squeeze before he stood up. “What a shock to see you out here today?”
“Not so much.” Coven Leader Oak’s tone held no admonishment, but there was something in the way the leader spoke. I’d heard it several times while I trailed behind my father. Father always had this manner about him that allowed him to make a point while he carried on a normal conversation. It wasn’t so much the tone he used, but the lack of words. In that case, Coven Leader Oaks had left something major unsaid. I wasn’t sure what. Or why? But I did know I was in between something that had everything to do about me and nothing to do with me at the same time.
I was up and gathered my trash into a neat little ball before I could take two breaths. Gave them each a slight nod and then left them there staring at one another. I was just about back to my house when Coven Leader Oaks jogged up to me.
“Jay, can we talk?”
“I . . .” What did I have to do? Not like anything took president over the coven leader. Him asking to speak was just him being polite. “What can I do for you?” I stopped, but kept my attention on a dark patch of grass beside my shoe.
“Can we go to you place?”
“Of course.” There wasn’t much for me to offer him there. The fridge barely kept water cold and the ice cooler I bought from the store the other week was empty. I did have some hot soda I could offer him, but . . . Wasn’t much, but at least he’d see I was trying to be a decent host.
“Where are we going?”
“You said . . .”
“No. I know, but you should not be living down here.”
“Why not?”
“This area is not livable.”
Fact I knew, but had not bothered to tell the second in command. Second in command assigned me this house. I’d never bothered to bring anyone here. Not because I was ashamed of where I lived, but because there was barely enough sitting area for me. There’d been no one at my house since the first day I arrived. Then it was just the woman who the second in command sent to show me to my job, and she didn’t even come in then. Most of the time when I met with my friends, I met them at their place or the dining hall.
“Where exactly did . . .”
I came to a stop in front of my home abode shack, not bothering to pause to let Coven Leader Oak regain his composure. Or whatever had came over him. I simply opened the door and motioned him to go inside. It might not be much, but I had made it as livable as I could with what little I had managed to buy over the last month. Would have been more if I had been able to bring in the money I had when I lived in the Human World, but that had all been combined with Kyle’s and I chose to leave it for him to use. He would never know where it came from, but at least I could tell myself I did not leave him with nothing. Same with the house I owned with him. I had the Elders fix the deed so it was completely in his name and while they were at it they paid off the loan we’d taken out to buy the nice little ranch house.
“This will be rectified.” Coven Leader Oaks’ tone had me jerking my head up and pausing on the red fiery face. “This . . . why did you not mention this to me . . . You should have told me when you came over for supper.” His phone was out and fingers flew across the screen. “What all have you put into this place to make it look this good?”
I wasn’t sure what was going on and found myself unable to speak.
