Lamia’s . . . half serpent, half woman. A sea monster. What was the third strike against her? Oh, right. A she-demon who was expected to settle down and procreate, who desired the flesh of a woman, instead of a man. In her family’s eyes she was  a total failure, hence the reason they had dragged her in front of Lucifer to ensure their daughter did her family duty. Not like it would matter either way, she was the baby of the family. Her brother had the responsibility to carry on the family name. Her eldest sister had the responsibility to ensure her husband’s family name was carried on. She was the last child born. She had no responsibility, in her eyes. Her mom said her place among the family was no different than any other  sibling. She was to marry a respectful demon and give him a child, or three. Her mom and dad did not care that the idea of a man repulsed her.
“Hey, Diane.”
A sexy, squeaky voice had her spinning around. “What are you doing here?”
“Thought you had me summoned to support you.”
“No.” Shit. This was not good. No one was supposed to know about Teke.
“Diane,” her mother came to her side and glanced back at Teke. “It looks like your friend came to remind you to do your duty.”
What? Why would her mom . . . She tilted her head from side-to-side, taking in her mom’s dead-on stare at Teke.
“I knew that she would support us.”
Support them? There was no way Teke would do such. Teke and her had been more than best friends for the last six years. Everyone thought they shared an apartment, but they shared a room. A life. They were a family. One no one knew about thanks to her father.
“You had me summoned?”
“No, Teke. I did.” Lucifer had all three of them kneeling. “Stand. Come in. Let’s get this over with.”
Diane let her mom enter first, then stood back and waited for Teke to enter. Wasn’t the wisest move on her part, but she would not step on her woman’s toes and Teke was the dominate among their relationship.
“I like to see that.” Lucifer pointed at her and then the love seat. “Teke, join Diane. Mrs. Smarts take a seat in front of my desk.”
“Yes, My Lord.” Her mom bowed and took her seat. “I think you for - -“
“I did not meet with you for the reason you believe I did.” Lucifer came to stand in front of them. He gave them a dead-on stare that had Diane’s entire body shivering. “It has been a long time since we had a couple of your two caliber.”
What? She glanced over at Teke, finding the same shock on her face as she felt running through her. That might have been what kept her attention focused on Lucifer, but her mom gasped and sprang to her feet. Diane did not get to hear what all her mother was going to spout at her thanks to Lucifer and a snap of his finger.
“Sit. Remain there.”
“You two thought no one knew.”
Teke gave a small bow.
“Families can make situation intense.”
That they could.
“When Mrs. Smarts brought her complaint against me, I knew it was time I stepped in. there is now way that I would separate a set of true mates just to appease a mother and father’s desire. Not when there are other sibling to carrying on their family name.”
“Really?” Diane winced when Teke elbowed her. “Sorry, Sir. Sorry, Teke.”
“I have to admit, you two did keep it hidden until the last year. Even then, your family and friends did not catch onto the state of things between you. I believe it was time for the entire world to know what lay among them. Your type of mates are rare and a great value to our world.”
“How so, Sir?” Teke took hold of her hand, and pride rushed through Diane as no need to jerk her hand away from her lover came to life. She’d wanted for so long to let the entire world know about her feelings for Teke.
“Long story and one that only you two need to hear about.” Lucifer faced her mother. “As you can see, I will not be ordering your daughter to marry anyone, other than her true mate. No leave us be.”
Diane couldn’t believe the red faced woman who rushed from the room, muttering about it being unfair. That she would tolerate her daughter debasing their family in such a manner. Thankfully, it was not up to her. Lucifer had the last say and he stated his stance on the situation in front of him pretty clearly.
