That it had. Not by choice. He’d been busy with Godfather and other Logan House business. When he wasn’t, I was busy with getting registered for college. Our schedule just had not came together in a month, or two. We both hated it. Loathed it. But . . . it was life. We knew that as well.
“You sure?”
“More than.” I knew how much my man liked to take me without anything between us. Not even lube. We’d done it many times, and he’d never hurt me. I loved to feel the burn that such a round of lovemaking left me with.
Hop’s warm lips pressed onto mine. I opened and shoved my tongue deep into his mouth, drawing a deep moan from my man. Time we got down to business. I slid onto my back, drawing my legs up to my chin. Hop wasted no time. He lined himself up with my hole and pushed in.
“Ah shit!”
Hop paused and looked down at me. “Too much?”
“Perfect.” The burn was amazing. Warmed my heart.
Hop continued to move until he was balls rested against my ass. My hills wrapped around him, pressing him closer, not that he could get any deeper in me, but I wanted him to be. My entire mind, body, and soul knew that he was home. That he belonged in me at all times.
“Home, sexy. I’m home.” He brushed his lips over the contours of my ear and licked a path down to the sensual spot right below my chin.
I had no problem letting him live in me twenty-four-seven. He was home to me. He was my everything. Hop didn’t give me words back, but he backed up his own feeling by pulling all the way out and slamming back into me. Hop was making a statement, other than his love for me. He was promising me that nothing would take me away from him. Not even the two trying to destroy my life. Nope. Hop would not let me leave his side.
“Hop!” Hop ripped a scream from me when he bit the tip of my nipple. My insides fluttered as he pulled out of me and rubbed the tip of his cock against my balls. Before I could respond to that, he was back inside me, thrusting deep and hard. He’d gone so far in me that he brushed against my prostrate, tearing another loud shout from me as heat consumed my body. An explosion like none before was ripped from me. My cum shot onto Hop’s chest as he grew still deep in me. The one place that I loved for him to be.
Hop screamed through his release. My legs remained locked around him until he collapsed over me. His breathing was as ragged as mine. It took him several minutes to unwrap my legs from him so he could lay beside me. More like clue himself to my back as he closed his hand around my balls.
“Got to be holding every bit of what I love.” His free hand slid under and up to my limp cock, taking it in his hands. “Now . . . My body is flush with what it loves. My hands are consumed by the rest of my man.”
“Damn, baby.”
“You are amazing, Cree.”
“You are the one who takes me to places I’ve never been. Every time we come together.” Kind of corny, but it was pure truth.
“Nah . . . that’s all your doing, sexy.”
I could tell Hop truly meant that. His grip tightened around me as he let his head rest on my chin. His breath was still deep and slow, letting me know just how much he meant what he said. Not only that, he was still on that natural high that our lovemaking gave us both.
I rested my hand over the one holding my cock and whispered, “Rest, baby, rest.”

“Not now.” His hand slid under the back of my shirt and traced my spine, giving me shivers. “Time I lavish some comfort on you.”
“Ummmmmm . . . .” That I could handle. A small nip to his collarbone was answer enough for me.
“Thought so, baby.” His hand slid down and slipped under the edge of the pair of boxers I napped from his drawer. I had my own clothes at his place, but his clothes provided me more comfort.
“Need you.” Hop’s finger traced the seam of my ass, letting his finger dip in and then back out as his hand traced my hip bone until he could grip my cock.
“Take me.” I pushed my hand through the tight grip he had on me.
“Cree . . . his cock brushed against mine, letting me know he’d came to bed like he did every time I was around. Naked. I wondered if he slept nude when I was gone. That thought had given me many images to jack off to. Least there needed to be no images then. I had the real thing ready to ravish me.
“Get rid of these.” Hop shoved the boxers down as he locked his lips over my nipple, biting enough to give me the sting that drove me right to the brink of explosion. My man knew how to make my body sing. He kept his lips swiping back and forth, biting every other pass he took. His hand worked my cock a couple of minutes then took my balls in his hand, squeezing a bit. After a couple of groans, he slid his hand back, letting the tip of his finger rub across my perineum.
“What do you taste like?”
“You know.”
“No I don’t.”
“You’ve tasted me many times.”
“I have and every time there is a different aroma that flows from you as well as new wonderful ambrosia that belongs only to you.”
Hope always knew what to say. Not that I needed him to tell me sweet and kind words to earn him the right to drive me to a new level of lust than I’d every felt with him. Nope. All I needed was to feel him against me. Feel his desire pressed into mine. The man could have me when I was thirteen if he had taken me. I knew then that he was the one that I wanted. That he was the only man that would satisfy me, but . . . I also knew that he preferred men. Oh, he wasn’t the reason I changed my sex. Nope. I knew I was going to do that before I met him, but he solidified my desire to do so.
“Going to let me in?” Hop pressed his firmer on my opening. My legs spread further as his cool finger slid in an inch.
“Thought you wanted to know what I tasted like?”
“Taste you later.” Hop groaned as he went knuckle deep. “Need to be inside you.”
“I’m yours. All yours.” A deep loud filled moan slid from me as he slipped a second finger deep in me. “Take what you want. Anytime you want you, baby.”
“Always do.” Hop’s fingers withdrew as he reached for the nighstand.
“Don’t need that.”
“Not going to hurt you, sexy.”
“You never do.”
“It’s been awhile since we made love.”

Chapter 3
Cree
I snuggled into Hop’s long, lean body as he slid his arms around me. “Hey, sexy.”
“Sorry.” He kissed the back of my head. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s fine. I sleep better when you are with me.”
“Really? Why’s that?”
I wiggled until I faced him, but never once did he release his tight hold on me. Like there was any other reason that explained why I slept better with him pressed against my body. He knew why. Knew what he did to me. Knew what I desired, loved, and dreamed about. He knew me better than anyone else. He’d been at my side for as long as I could remember. He supported me through the rough years of being a female when I longed to be a man. Then he did not cringe away from me when I told him my feeling for him. He was my love. Nope. He did not need me to answer that question. The shine in his eye told me he knew.
I kissed his cheek. “How bad is it?”

“Pretty good, but nothing is one hundred percent - -“
“There is.” I would take Cree and run. I’d burry us so deep not even my father could fid us.
“What is . . . Oh, Your Highness, that wouldn’t be wise.”
“Sure would be.” I clinched the tabletop. “I won’t lose him. I won’t let our entire race go to the pits because of some stupid humans.”
A squeeze to the back of my neck had me swinging around. My fist contacted with a rough, bumpy surface.
“Hop,” Charlie rubbed his jaw.
Nothing else needed saying. “Damn.” I unclenched my hand and made my way to the sofa. “You okay?”
“yeah, got my shield up before you connected.”
That’s why my knuckled ached. Charlie had let his dragon skin come forward. Charlie was one of about a dozen who could extract one aspect of their skills and remain human. The ones who could were inducted into the enforcer’s rank.
The day I was born father set Charlie up as the leader of the Logan House. Charlie had been my father’s most trusted enforcer, which is why he had been assigned as my main guard. The day I became of age, Charlie had chosen four second ranked enforcers, dragon with natural born fighting skills, to join the Logan House. Together Charlie and them stood guard over him. As much as I’d let them.
“Mr. Logan,” Mr. Davis said from underneath the desk.
“He’s calm. Explain what other options we may have, even the long shots ones.” Charlie nudged my foot.
I scooted over and let Charlie take the spot beside me. “Mr. Davis, I apologize for my brash reaction.”
“It’s fine, Your Highness. You have more control than I would have if my Elizabeth was in the spot.” Mr. Davis moved around the desk and flipped through the paper filled table. “if our Cree is their child and the emancipation fails then . . .” He lifted a piece of paper, “There’s one other options. Long shot, very long, but it might work.
“What is it?’ Charlie took the paper Mr. Davis held out.
I glanced over and saw the newspaper article I’d glanced at earlier. The article was titled, Kidnapper’s Family Gained Custody of Stolen Child.
“It’s only happened twice. This one was five years ago.” Mr. Davis pulled a chair over and sat down. “Problem is . . .well’s there a few differences.”
I took the paper from Charlie and read it. Silence made the tension in the air thicker. My heart clinched with each word I read. Major differences. The girl in the article had been six. The people plead their case all the way to the highest court possible. The child had been disabled. The original family had less money to care for the little girl. Nor was the girl the future of the dragon world.
“Could we expedite the process in any manner?” Charlie took over the talking and I knew it was done to prevent another explosion.
“Yes, but I don’t’ have the contracts I’d need.”
“What do you need?”
“A high-ranking judge who can interfere for us.”
Didn’t have to see Charlie to know he was biting his lower lip. It was on aspect the two of had in common. They both did so when they silently tossed an idea or searched their memory for what was needed. Neither of us kept written records of our contacts. We never knew when the humans might raid our homes. Most of their major information was attached to their minds only. What they did write down was never kept in places where humans could locate them.
“Do we have one?” I leaned aback, trying to show a sense of calmness.
None to show. From the way Mr. Davis sat on the edge of his chair and kept darting his huge eyes around the room, my anxiety made Mr. Davis uncomfortable. Me being unstable, sparked Mr. Davis’ dragon’s side to flee. Mr. Davis still being in the room with me was a huge feat for the submissive dragon.
“No, Your Highness.”
“If we find one how long would it take to gain custody of Cree?” I tried to force my tone into my regular easy to go. Doubted I succeeded, but I tired to ease Mr. Davis’ dragon.
“Depends on what our contact can do for us.” Had to give Mr. Davis high praises, the man didn’t stutter at all. Just kept his voice low.
“Say he can rush the case to his docket.”
“Day. If not then months, maybe.”
Charlie stood and motioned towards the door. “Hop, go and spend time with your man. It will calm you some. I’ll make the call.”
I nodded as Charlie made his way to the grandfather clock and repositioned the hands of the clock, opening one of the many secret passageways in the house.
“Tell father I say hey.”

I titled my head left until it creaked then ran a hand over my face as I opened the door into the study. Cree was my life. More than a mere human knew. I would be useless to my people if I lost Cree. Worse, I would become the very thing society believed my kind to be. An enraged, fire-breathing dragon. Too many people depended on me. I had to remain the calm manners ice dragon I was.
Losing my mate, after watching over her for fifteen years, would not only destroy me, but twenty percent of my people would follow me into madness, leaving my father to have to kill me. Such an act would consume my father with madness, taking the rest of our people with him.
The world would be overrun with deadly dragons after thousands of years of living in peace among them. Last fifty of those years the human had known about them. Or the higher ups had. Father worked hard to gain their trust. Two years ago, father and the humans came to an agreement about us going public. My father worked it so that the Dragons would reveal themselves the same day I married Cree. The months from the day. We were so close. There was no way these invaders would destroy my life and my people. I wouldn’t let them. My father wouldn’t let them. Charlie would let them. The . . .
“Charlie, you think the government will assist us?”
“How?”
“Manipulate things in our favor.”
“What you thinking?”
“let them know the consequences of what could happen if I lose him.”
“We can’t. It will destroy all the work we’ve done.”
Knew that. Grasping at straws. Too much rode on the Dragons and the humans reuniting. The Dragon race was slimming down. Few were finding their mates among our race. Dragons searched for their mate among the humans, but we were a pure truthful creature. Meant the ones who found theirs among the human world weren’t able to tell their soul mate about the dragon side. There were few who believed their soul mate would accept them for their true side and told their mate about the dragon side.
“Let’s see what Mr. Davis has for us.” Charlie waved him into the room.
I paused in the doorway when I saw Mr. Davis slumped over a thick book. Scribbling notes. Papers were scattered over the small round table to his left.
“What have you found?” Charlie dropped onto the leather sofa near the desk.
I walked over to the table and studied the papers.
“I can say this,” Mr. Davis kept on scribbling, “Pray those papers were incorrect.”
Not what I wanted to hear.
“And if they aren’t. Where does that leave us?”
Mr. Davis sighed. “A dragon pup tossed off a water fall before he can fly.”
A stray ray of fire shot from my nose as I hissed. A feat hard for most dragons, but my royal traits allotted me extra skills. All of which was useless.
“Can you work your magic?” Charlie’s foot tapping was annoying.
“Doubtful. I’ll do my best to pull something off.”
“What? How?” I picked up a sheet of paper.
“I’d have to call in a favor from Superior Court Judge Arnold.”
“Why?” I skimmed the paper on a case regarding emancipation.
“If Cree was kidnapped the law will want to reunite her with her blood family. What will work in our favor is her age.”
“How so?” Charlie beat me to the punch.
“The other couple’s child is seventeen.”
“So?” I scanned over another piece of paper.
“means I can fight for Cree’s right to become emancipated. The court will have to listen. He can state his wish to live on his own. Him having the sex change two months ago will work in his favor as well. That means he’s been through all the required counseling that went along with the procedure and that she was found stable enough to gain her true identity. Not to mention he’s got more than enough money to take care of himself. And his own place to live.”
“How likely is this to go our way?”
Sounded a bit risky. The Hodges had kidnapped a little girl. Raised her as one until the little girl approached them and explained her true feelings about herself. From that point on they respected her decision to be a male and began the process of getting her the required therapy for a sex-change the day she turned eighteen. Wasn’t sure how one would think the Hodges had been fit parents or how Cree had been able to think such intimated details about his life at such a young age.
“Best route.”
“I hear a but in there.” Charlie leaned forward.
“The other couple will fight for their right to get to know their child.”
“Not their child.”
“We don’t know that yet.”
“I mean they will fight to get to know their son.” Thankfully, Mr. Davis had enough sense to not correct me on how those retched people had a daughter to start with. Or they had if Cree was indeed their daughter. Not that any of that matter. Cree was not leaving my side. I lifted the sheet of paper I held and waved it at Mr. Davis. “Why do you have a case study references of shared custody?”
“Another option I considered.”
“Considered?” I shuffled through a few more sheets of paper.
“Won’t work.”
Good. I would not share Cree. He was mine. “How likely is the emancipation option?”

Chapter 2
Hop
Cree had fallen asleep before we got his shoes off. I tucked the blanket around him and turned the heater up.
“Will you be okay with him staying here?” Charlie walked in and kissed his forehead. The man was the perfect Godfather for my man.
“Why would I not be? He’s mine.”
“I know.”
Charlie held his hands up, making me wince. Wasn’t my way to snap at him. Others . . . well that was something that depended on my mood. My mood right then wasn’t the best.
“You know what I mean.”
I did. “I will. Have to.” My other side would dislike the warmer room and despise me for not claiming what was ours.
“Won’t be easy. Can you control both sides of you?”
Not a question asked out of responsibility, not completely, but one asked out of concern for the two people that he cared for. His Godson and his nephew. Not to mention the Logan House. It would be hard, but I could do it. Not much different than being involved in Cree every aspect of Cree’s life since the day the Hodges joined the Logan House. Right down to when he came out about his desire to change sex. Wasn’t that shocking to me. I mean, I always leaned more towards men than woman, but I never let Cree know that. He had to live his life for himself, because one day it would be lived for both of us and until he was of legal age, I desired him to have the best life possible. Other than the purpose meeting between us when Cree thirteen I never intervened directly in his life. All major issues, like his desire to dress like a boy and become one when he was of legal age always came to me, but I always went to him and discussed his feelings before I agreed or disagreed. I’d never had to disagreed with him once. He was strong willed and knew himself deeply. That’s what would make him a great man to be at my side.
“I can.”
I rested my head against the cool wood door, hoping it’d sooth my dragon side. Did little to ease the suppressed anger. At myself. At the couple who dared claimed Cree. At the Hodges. Had they stolen Cree ? If so . . . they should’ve told me the moment they found out she belonged to me.
Cree was mine to protect. There had been three main lines of defense for Cree. Charlie. The lawyer. And me. All three had failed my man. He had spent hours barricaded in the safe room. Then fought until they gassed him. Then . . . fuck. They’d taken his blood while he was out and without permission. Fed him possible lies. None of which was how the day was supposed to have gone.
“Today was ruined.”
“I know.” Charlie hung his head. “My Godson’s initiation day should’ve been wonderful.”
“More than.”
I’d spent ten weeks preparing for the day Cree officially became a member of the Logan House. For most it was a simple pronouncement from Charlie. For Cree . . . it was a grand party. Him being Charlie’s Godson made him royalty. More than that . . . it was the day she was to learn what being a member of the Logan House meant. Better than that . . . Cree would have been pronounced as my future husband. Most members knew, but it wouldn’t be official until Charlie announced it in front of every member. It was the dragon’s way of life.
Cree’s perfect day had been destroyed. I’d have the heads of everyone responsible.
“Hop.” Charlie pointed at my hands.
Blood oozed from the tips of my finger where claws had extended. I retracted them and ran my tongue over the puncture marks, watching the holes close.
“Charlie, they can’t have Cree. He is mine. I want to know what the hell happened. I want to know no.”
I tensed as Charlie moved beside me. I had to admit it was the safest move. My dragon was raging and I had no idea what he might do.
“Your highness,” Charlie bowed his head, “Hop, we will not lose her. She’s yours. Has been she was born.”
I sighed, letting some of the tension seep down my arms and through my hands until it faded away. “I should’ve claimed him on his birthday.”
“Couldn’t.”
Course not. A dragon’s other half had to be twenty before the claiming could be preformed. Didn’t mean upholding the law didn’t suck. Breaking the order of claiming might have caused a total different set of issues, but it would’ve given me more resources. As it is, if the Hodges had kidnapped Cree then he wasn’t even eighteen.
“This makes no sense.”
“What part?” Charlie kept stride beside me as I made the way into the hallway.
“All of it. But why would the Hodges take a child?”
“We don’t they did.”
“DNA test falsified?”
Agent Carter was hell bent on taking the Logan House down. Doctoring a legal document seemed far-fetched for even him. The silence in the air told me how much Charlie agreed with my unsaid thoughts.
“Think I need to call my father?”
“Not yet.” Charlie patted my shoulder. “Let’s see what Mr. Davis has found out from his internal sources.”

“What does that mean?” Hop’s chest lifted as he spoke, causing me to scoot closer.

“Mr. Hop, Cree attacked several of their agents.”
“That’s my babe.” I pressed closer when Hop kissed the side of my cheek.
“How many?” Godfather patted my leg.
“Not sure, Sir.” Mr. Davis replied. “I do know they used some sleeping gas to take her down.” He chortled. “He’s lucky not to be in jail.”
True. Problem was I might have preferred that than being told my mom and dad kidnapped me.
“Cree, baby, what’s wrong?” Hop’s soft finger traced my face as best as he could with me pressed into his chest.
“That woman looked like me.”
My response pulled a deep, shuttering sigh from me. I’d refused to let that fact enter my mind while in front of strangers. I’d studied each man and woman who interacted with me. I could tell you their weaknesses and their strengths. Raquel and Denny had many weaknesses, but their best strength was their money. I knew they’d use it to get what they wanted. Her red haired stood out. Bit it did little to demean the fact that Raquel and I shared the same bone structure. The nose talking wasn’t like me either.
“How so?” Godfather squeezed my knee, but I didn’t answer. “Mr. Davis, di you see these people?”
Ice clanked and a glass was pushed between my balled up fingers. “Drink, Cree. It’ll help.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Did they resemble each other?” Mr. Davis must have nodded because Godfather cursed under his breath. “What will this mean?”
“Not sure.”
“Why not?” Hop pressed the glass to my lips.
“Well . . . honestly, it depends on the DNA test. If she is proven to be their daughter then they will become her guardians.”
“She’s nineteen. Legal.” Hop snapped so hard  my drink splattered. “Sorry, baby.”
“Their daughter isn’t.”
“Damn.” The leather creaked as Godfather shifted. “This is fightable, right?”
“I think so.”
“Think so!” Hop shouted, making me cringe away from him. He tugged me back into his chest. “Sorry, baby.” He slipped his hands under the back of my shirt.
I knew what Mr. David wasn’t saying. If mom and dad had kidnapped me then the courts would be obligated to return me to my biological family until I turned eighteen. I didn’t want to spend ten months with them. For any reason.
“She is one of us. She will not be taken from us.” Godfather reached over and turned my head towards him. “You hear me, Cree. You will not be separated from us. I promise.”
“Sir, I don’t . . .”
Mr. Davis didn’t finish his statement. A solid look from Godfather had him sealing his lips tighter than a snapping turtle. Mr. Davis feared me getting a false promise, but he failed to see it was exactly what I needed. It was the only think keeping the tears behind my eyelids.
“What did the police find?” I hoped a change in topic would ease me more.
I knew my mom and dad kept a few guns stashed. Godfather forbid any Logan House member to keep papers in their homes or office.
“Nothing. Not even the computers contained documents.”
“Good.”
The limo slowed and turned into the driveway. Soon as the car stopped Hop climbed out with me in his arms.
“I can walk, you know.”
“I love you in my arms.”
I loved being in them. He was my rock. My solid calm place.

I sat up taller and continued to gaze at the elevators. Where was my Godfather? Better yet, where was Hop. He would’ve been alerted to the raid on my home. Why hadn’t they came for me.
“Do you forgive me?” Raquel rested her hand on my arm.
I knocked it off, giving her what Hop called my don’t fuck with me look. Hop and Godfather swore it would kill the strongest person. Sure did have the skinny, redhaired woman cringing back.
“Honey,” Denny patted Raquel’s shoulder. “Kay - -“
“My name is Cree.” The stupid people had no clue I’d gone through a sex change the moment I turned eighteen. It wasn’t there business and apparently, the FBI agent hadn’t bothered to inform them. Didn’t matter to me.
I sprang to my feet and ran from the room.  The glass window rattled as the door banged against the wall.
“Kay, where are you going?” Denny shouted from behind me.
“Sweetie, what’s wrong with her?” Raquel said.
“Miss . . . You can’t leave the room.” An officer stationed on the opposite of the door moved to intercept me.
I skirted from his reach, making my way down the hallway. Two steps away from the elevator the door slid open, revealing Mr. David, the Logan House lawyer. Time might have stood still. The sight of him took ten million pounds off my shoulder. His head cocked and eyebrow lifted, telling me to maintain my composure.
“Cree, you okay?” Mr. David eyes roamed over me as his hand discreetly touched his phone.
I knew he would have a text prepared to send to Godfather and Hop. The Logan House lawyer was more than a well-payed man. He was family. He knew what was required for each situation before entering it.
“Yes, Mr. David.”
“Kay,” There was that stupid human name. If they had truly been my parents they would have known my true name. I’d gone by it since I was fourteen. My parents hadn’t blinked an eye when I told them that I was more male than female and that I wanted the sex-change soon as I turned eighteen. They’d simply told me as long as my Godfather agreed it was fine. They accepted my name change and respected me courage for standing up for who I was.
Denny’s grip was gentle but unwanted.
“Get your hands off of me, or I’ll deck you.”
Denny had enough sense to know I meant what I said. From the deep lines stretching across his face he didn’t like it either.
“Sir,” Mr. David moved to my side, “I’m not sure who you are, but I suggest you refrain from touching my client.
Denny spun towards Agent Carter, who had been leading the way since I’d woken from the sleeping gas.
“Mr. David,” Agent Carter huffed, “is the lawyer for Mr. Logan. I’m not sure why he is here for Kay.”
“My name is Cree.”
“Cree, let me handle this. It’s what I get paid for.”
“Fine, just - -“
Mr. Davis’s stern look made my lips slam shut. I knew better. Oh, Mr. Davis had to listen to me, but he’d been given orders from my Godfather and he outranked me.
“Agent Carter, I’m also the lawyer for the Hodges family. Cree is my client. I’ve come to retrieve her and take her home.”
“You,” Denny pointed his finger at Mr. David, making me tense up. Mr. David was family and I would protect him if need be.
“Just who are you?”
“I’m her father and you aren’t connected to my family.”
Mr. David glanced my way. I had no clue what to say, so I tossed my hands into the air. What else could I say. The FBI had their story and I was sticking to mine. The two pricks wasn’t anything to me. Never would be.
Mr. David sighed so hard his shoulder lifted and fell as he blew out his breath. “Why would you think that?”
His calm demurer didn’t shock me. I’d watched Mr. David during another one of the FBI scams on Godfather. He’d never once raised his voice while he twisted the witness’ story until the man had no clue what he’d saw.
“DNA, test proved it. She is Kay Stone.” Agent smiled and handed Mr. David a piece of paper.
“When was this taken?”
“After we retrieved her.”
Mr. David didn’t look at me. He knew I would not have consented to such an invasion of my privacy.
“I doubted my client gave you permission for such a test.”
Agent Carter stood taller, but remained silent. He knew he was caught.
“Cree?” My name was all Mr. Davis said.
“I was knocked out from sleeping gas.”
“Sleeping gas?”
Agent Carter crossed his arms. “She - -“
“First off, quit calling her she.”
“Why?” Denny nodded in my direction. “I gave her the name Kay Stone. Not this Cree she is going by.”
“Fine.” Agent Carter ended the discussion that I did not want to have in front of these strangers. I wasn’t ashamed of what I was or had done. But I knew bigots when I saw them. “Cree fought us when we extracted her from the safe room.”
Was kind of proud of my standoff. I’d showed them who had the upper hand until they took the cowards way out.
Mr. David laid his hand on my shoulder, more of a silent request for me to remain quiet than comfort. “Let me see if I’m following you, Agent Carter. You had a search warrant issued for a full raid on a possible missing person?”
“Not missing.” Agent Carter squared his shoulder. “He was kidnapped by the Hodges.”
“I doubt that.” Mr. David glared at Agent Carter. “The Hodges were upstanding citizens, who gave  to many charities. What reason would they have to kidnap someone?”
“They are part of the Logan Gang. Criminal don’t need reasons.”
My teeth scraped, creating a loud grinding that put a chill across my shoulders and down my back. Took me a minute to regain my composure. Some of it at least. “My parents weren’t criminals.”
“He’s correct.” Mr. David shrugged. “The Hodges had no criminal records.”
“Hadn’t been caught yet.”
“There - -“
Mr. Davis’ tightened his grip on my shoulders. “Doesn’t change the facd you failed to gain permission from Cree before you took her blood.”
“Didn’t need it.”
“You admit to violating her civil rights?”
“Sh- - - I mean he is a minor. I gained permission from her parents.”
“Cree Hodges is no minor. Not to mention you killed her parents in shoot out.”
My jaw ached from forcing my mouth closed. My mind screamed to smack the shit out of Agent Carter. Might have if Mr. Davis’ fingers weren’t digging into my shoulder. I’d have fingerprints by the end of this ridiculous conversation.
Agent Carter rolled his eyes and dropped his arms. “Just how did you find out she was here?”
“Cree contacted me the moment you busted down his front door. I went to her home. Me as well as her Godfather told your agents we could get him to come out. Our offer was squashed. We left and have been downstairs since. You refused to let me see my client, so I went to the DA. Found out some interesting facts. After that, I made a small trip to the judge.”
New they hadn’t let me stay up here by myself. Nope. they’d came when I alerted them. They’d done more than that. They’d been dealing with the rule breaking agent.
Mr. David held out a piece of paper. “You have no right to hold Cree Hodges any longer.”
Agent Carter’s face paled. “I’m sorry, Mr. Stone, but Mr. Davis is correct.”
“What do you mean?” Denny’s eyes widened, making my insides warm. Whatever game he’d been playing had been tossed aside, or stalled at least. “She is only seventeen. We are her parents. You have the proof those foul people took her from us.”
I lunged and screamed, “My name is Cree. I’m not a woman. Get that through your fucking . . .” I let the words die when Mr. David yanked me back when he took hold of my arm.
“Ignore him.”
“Mr. Davis convinced a judge the DNA test was gained unlawfully, therefore the judge . . .”
“What does that mean.”
“It means,” Mr. Davis grinned, “The FBI once again became overzealous and broke the law.”
“How so?” Denny intense glare at Agent Carter was comical, but I forced my chuckle down. It’s been amazing to see the entire conversation unfold. Even if the Stones’ kept calling me she.
Once again Mr. Davis answered for Agent Carter. “They had no valid report that Zoe was missing person.”
Damn. Then that meant . . . they’d stormed my home without reason. My parents had been murdered.
“We did.” Agent Carter’s reign on his control broke with each word he shouted.
“Where is it?”
Mr. Davis questions was calm and quiet, which had me stepping forward, only to be stopped by Mr. Davis again. Someone needed to be raging war with Agent Carter. He’d gotten by with murder. Taken my parents from me for no reason. Did that not matter to anyone other than me. Had to, but it would come at a later point and time. I knew it. Mr. Davis would not have forgotten about my parents. Neither would my Godfather. He was simply dealing with the main issue. Getting me out of the hands of the FBI.
“The aged photo of her was seen by a citizen and was reported.”
“Hmm . . .” Mr. Davis’ grin held no humor or any emotions. How was he so patients. I was going out of mind. None of the day’s events made sense. Agent Carter was known for crossing the line due to his obsession of the Logan House, but he’d never gone as far as he had today. He’d never killed anyone. “An aged photo would not have worked. Cree no longer holds an air of a woman. You can look at him and see that. His hairs is cut in a military style. One nose ring and an eyebrow pierced, not two ears pierced. What you should have done is gone to her and requested her aid in clearing up the matter. If you assumed she was underage, then you should have requested permission from the Hodges to take a DNA sample. Instead you found it acceptable to take one from after killing her parents and knocking her out with gas.”
“Denny,” Raquel wrapped her arms around her husband’s shoulder. “What does this mean?”
“It means,” Mr. Davis turned me towards the elevator. “Cree and I are leaving.”
“No.” Raquel’s squeaky squill had me clinching my shoulders.
“Let’s go, Cree.” Once again I admired how well Mr. Davis handled the entire situation. Even though I despised how calm he remined.
“Agent Carter, she is our daughter. You can’t let them have her.”
I forced myself to focus on the silver door sliding opening, all but jumping through the door soon as it was open wide enough for me to slip through. Sheltered inside let some of the tension leave my mind, but my body did not relax. It wouldn’t until I was out of the FBI headquarters.
“I have no choice.” Agent’s Carter’s hand stopped the elevator door. “Mr. Davis, you best have him at the lab first thing in the morning.”
“She will be there at eight.”
I remained tall until the door shut, then slumped against the gold wall. “This isn’t over, is it?”
“Let’s get you home. There are two worried men waiting.”
“I knew something detained Godfather. Just didn’t think it was the law.” I ran my hand over my face. “Did mom and dad do this?” I hated to think they did, and would never let the law seem me questioning my parents.
Lack of response didn’t surprise me. Mr. David never spoke freely until he was sure the area wasn’t bugged. I had only asked to ease my own mind. Yet . . . it wouldn’t. what would was Hop’s arms around me. And one of his long hard kisses.
The limo pulled to the corner. Mr. Davis held the door open and I slid right into Hop’s arms. Warmth engulfed me as he tugged me closer. “Baby, you okay?”
I mustard up enough energy to nod before I buried my face into the crook of his neck.
“Cree, did they hurt you?” Godfather asked, but I wasn’t sure how to answer him. I wasn’t physically hurt, but mentally . . . confusion roared through me like fire consuming twigs of wood.
“I’m not injured.”
“Not what I asked.”
“Sir,” Mr. Davis interjected, “They did no physical harm.”

Chapter 1
Cree
Lost?
What does that mean? Someone is missing. Something misplaced. Can a person be lost if the missing person knows where they are? They can’t be. They aren’t. even if no one else knows their location. Can an object be lost? Can’t be. Objects don’t know if it has been misplaced.
“I lost you. I’m sorry.” Raquel, a dark red haired, middle aged, nose talking, obnoxious woman spoke with her hands.
Why was I being forced to listen to the woman? The entire day had been a cyclone. Started when the FBI knocked down the front door. Mom and dad had screamed for me to get into the safe room. Last words I heard before the heavy, bullet proof safe style door sealed was ten shouts to get on your knees.
“I only turned around a second.”
Famous last words of stupid women who take their eyes off their children. Raquel’s words meant nothing to me. All she wanted was to eradicate the events from my destroyed morning.
Surveillance camera showed me ten guys aiming their guns at my mom and dad. Dad yanked the small caliber gun he carried and fired at the closest agent. Sparks flew from the tip of his guns, or so I thought. Couldn’t have been fear enticed imagination. Mom dove behind the couch, glancing toward the hidden camera.
She mouthed, “Zoe, Godfather.” Then jerked the automatic gun from under the couch, firing a semi-circular patter. Six FBI agents crumbled to the floor. The remaining four took cover behind those large solid black, bulletproof shields.
One of those three returned fire, nailing my7 dad in the right shoulder. He staggered backwards sending me into action. I retrieved the burner cell phone from the side table and hit number one. Let it ring four times then hung up. One minute later I pressed number two and waited for it to ring twice. It was all I could do. Sucked, but I followed orders like I’d been taught. Had to. I was the future high-ranking officer among the Logan House, which meant my parents would eliminate any threat to me and my home, while I waited for my Godfather to rescue me from the hands of the law.
“I’m sorry.” Raquel’s squeaky voice had me popping my neck. “We searched and searched.”
Didn’t matter what the woman said. My main focus was on the elevator, watching, hoping, and prayer someone would arrive soon. It’d taken the FBI hours to extract me from the safe room. After several lame ass attempts to break the key-code the agents brought in a torch. Thirty minutes later the agents called in to replace the six my dad took down entered the room.
They must have thought I would go quietly. Wrong. I might have been nineteen, but I knew how to defend myself. First thing I done was tell those fools they’d never take me alive. Corny response, but hey what could one say to short, husky agents who was deadest on arresting you.
Took seconds to take down the four fools who managed to avoid bullets. Kind of funny how they gripped their balls after I slammed my foot into them. Three more entered the room, pointing guns at me. I’d used the best tactic possible. My age.
My Godfather and family taught me to use whatever was at hand. Fair or unfair. I gave them the promise of surrendering and accepting their help. With a promise of not being arrested, yeah right, they holstered their guns. I lunged, showing them just what a hardcore member of the Logan House could do.
Shouldn’t have surprised them. The government had been after tearing down the Logan House for years. They referred to us as the Logan Gang. Like most of the time, the law was wrong. Godfather might lead a group of well-trained fighters and earned money in some unlawful manner, but h treated every member like family. Me more than anyone else. Not only was she his Goddaughter, but her fiancĂ© was his nephew.
“We never quit. The minute the agent called we rushed right over.”
Raquel’s endless chatter grated on my nerves. I listened to the officers spout lies since I’d woken up from the damn sleeping gas the cowardly agents used to take me down. After the law and some government issued doctor told me the fairytale about being kidnapped they’d brought in the ones they swore were my biological parents. Raquel and Denny. The blacked haired man, Denny, picked right up with spinning the story.
I refused to believe them. They’d given falsified DNA test, which they’d taken while I was knocked out. Who says the law don’t break the rules they swear to uphold. at least, the invasion of privacy kept me out of jail, right then. Apparently being a missing person helps one out.
I’d take that reprieve until my lawyer showed up. Then he could eradicate the deception Raquel, Denny, and the FBI agent spun. I knew who my parents were. They’d been stolen from me. Didn’t matter. I was nineteen. Legal adult. My home may be in shambles, but I had another one to go to. Not being blood to the Hodges didn’t change my status among the Logan House. Nor would it make my Godfather stop caring for me. Nor would it affect her relationship with her fiancĂ©.

This week's post will be chapter one, broken down into three parts. (It's a long chapter.)
