Chapter 4
Edward hung the phone up sighing. He did not need what had been landed at his feet. Nope. He had moved to the small town to do one thing. Live a peaceful life without much interference from the local Coven. Not come up against a tyrant who would not allow him to reside inside the Coven lands without going through the Choosing Ceremony. Damn thing had been a thorn in his life since he turned eighteen. Least then he’d had his dad’s pull to get him out of the barbaric ritual. Not the case anymore. Dad had stepped down as the Chief of Area 6, the largest Area of the 10 that stretched across the world. The seat was his for the taking at any time, but Edward did not want the massive responsibility. He’d grown up with an absentee dad. Not that he had children, or every would. Nope. That’s was the issue. His dad had spent ninety percent of his time dealing with minor to major issues regarding one or another coven. There was never a break for him. Not a life Edward wanted. Not even to get himself out of the dreaded Choosing Ceremony. He’d simply pull out the letter his dad gave him some five years ago and pray it still held some power. If not . . . he’d face that when it came up. First and most important issue at hand was finding him a place to stay. He’d called the Coven house to see if he could crash there, but since he was new and had not gone through the Choosing Ceremony he was not eligible to stay there. Apparently, single men among the single women was a major issue for the Coven. Didn’t’ bode well with him. Meant there were problems among the Coven. Something else Edward did not need.
“Sir,” the deep voice from earlier flowed through him, making his entire body shiver with . . . Oh Lord. His cock had not gotten so hard before in his life. What was going on? “How are you feeling?”
All Edward could managed was grunt.
“He’s doing fine, Sonny Boy.” Mr. Winchester answered for him. “Been watching over him myself. No sign of head injury or any confusion. Bad phone call, I’d say.”
Dang-gum. How much had Mr. Winchester picked up on? Edward had ensured, or thought he had, that he was alone. Where had the old guy been hiding?
“That’s good, but I’d feel better if you went and let the doctor check you out.”
What was wrong with the handsome guy? Why was he pushing a doctor? Not like I needed one. Anything that had happened to me would be long gone. Fast healing was great, most of the time. Looked like it was going to bite him in the ass.
“Then at least let me give you a better check over.”
“I’m fine, but . . . Thanks.” Edward stood, hoping his raging cock was not presentable. Sure wasn’t the time, or place, to have a hard-on.
“Okay.” The hunk said. “Have you found a place to stay?”
“Not yet. Getting ready to call a friend of mine.” Did not need the guy to know that there was no where for him to go. He could not even afford a cheap motel. Not that he would go to one. Then again . . . he might have.
“If it doesn’t’ . . . I have an extra bedroom if you need a place to crash until you can find you a new place.”
