Chapter 53
Tony and Simon had both been on edge the entire wedding. He’d left ten guards to watch over the wolf inside the cell, but it did little to ease the nervous energy coursing through him. Since that strange wolf started stalking Bobby, Simon had been different. Wrong. It started when he showed up at Tommy’s to investigate Tommy being involved with Bobby. Soemthing about him doing that distrubed his mate. What? Why? Those question lurked deep inside him, but before he could discuss that with his mate he had to uncover who this wolf/vamp mix was that had begun stalking his nephew’s husband. He would not have anyone threatening any of his family and the moment that Bobby mated Tommy he became immediate family.
“Tony,” Simon’s voice rang loud through the hallway as he came down it. “David and the Master is here.”
He looked up just as they rounded the corner of the rounded staircase that came down to the sound proofed cells he’d build below Tommy’s house. “How are you both?” Neither answered him. David simply came to the bars on the cell and faced the Master.
“Master, I hope this is not stranded wolf case.”
The Master walked up to the bar and squatted. He titled his head from side to side and eyed the wolf a few moments. Sort of. He never really looked the wolf in his eye. More like he focused on the wolf’s nose. Odd. Why?
“He is a strong looking wolf.”
“You are right, Alpha Kind.” The Master slapped his knees and stood. “He is indeed a wolf/vamp mix. You said he was scared of fangs?”
“Yes, Master.” Tony came to stand beside them. “When Bobby flashed them he backed himself into a corner.”
“Alpha Kind, bring one of your mixed down here and let’s see his reaction.”
Why did he ask for a mixed? Why not have him flash his fangs? A set of vampire fangs should do the trick no matter if they came from a mixed or a full vamp. If this had been more related to his mob he would have forced the issue that he handle the task, but he did try to keep himself separate from the inner workings of each supernatural affiliated group. Oh, he’d step in if it came to it, but . . . It’d not gotten that far yet.
David called down his third and had him drop his fangs. The wolf hunkered down and backup as far as he could, whimpering. The Master got this far off look that had every one in the room going still. Him more so out of curiosity. He’d never seen the Master do such. He’d been around him many times over the years. Interacted with him on many different levels and in many different areas of the world. Came with the territory of being the largest Don of the world, but he’d never saw him go into a catatonic like state.
“Is something wrong with him?”
“No. He can speak to werewolves.”
“Is that a skill he has or one that all Masters have?” And why had he never heard of such before.
“Just him.” David supplied. “Most do not know it. It is rare he does so in front of anyone. Consider yourself special, Mr. Stake.”
He knew he was, but why had the Master included David in such. David wasn’t even that big of a leader. After all, Mixed Groups weren’t ranked among the power structure of the supernatural beings. Most mixed groups kept themselves hidden. He knew of several around the world. David had been the only one that he could locate near Simon’s area, though. There’d been little information about the group available. Not shocking, but what he found out about David, which was very little, he was an upstanding Alpha.
“Okay.” The Master shook his head. “He was not attacking Bobby.”
“Then what was he doing?” Tony huffed. “Sure looked like an attack to me.”
“He wants to know why he smells like him and why he is not always a wolf.”
“Don’t buy it. They are the same spieces. He knows why Bobby leaves his wolf form.”
“He has never been out of wolf form and does not understand why his fangs sometimes slip out when he is a wolf.”
Fuck me! “Never?”
“What he says and there is no hint of a lie.” The Master took on the far off look again, leaving them all to contemplate that bombshell.
“Have you ever heard of such?” Tony asked David.
“Only in a stranded wolf situation. Once or twice.”
Damn it. How in the world did someone leave their child to fend for themselves in wolf form from birth? And if he smelled like Bobby, why had Bobby’s parent not given him up for adoption like they had him? If you willing gave up . . . Okay, his mom and dad had not willingly gave him up, but they would never had left a child in wolf form. They cared for their children too much to do so. How had someone who smelled like Bobby gotten left in wolf form from birth to fend for himself?
“Master will get his wolf’s name and then call out his human for him.”
“Won’t it hurt for his human to come out after so many years being locked away?”
“Would think so.” David sighed and leaned against the wall. “It sickens me that people treat children in such a manner.”
“Why would they?”
He had longed to have a child. Him and his first mate never had the glory in such. Not from lack of trying. It was partly why he lavish so much love and care on Tommy after his dad and mom was killed. Not to mention that they were taken from this world because of their involvement among the mob world.
“Most likely they were a vampire and werewolf fooling around and came up pregnant. Neither wanted to trouble that a mixed child would bring them, so they got rid of them.”
“Why not send them to an adoption agency?”
“Didn’t want the stigma that they carried such a child. Some packs will go as far as kill women who bare mixed children. Vampire Dens have been known to ostracize members for such.”
Wow. He’d heard stories among the Vampire Dens, but never about Packs. Such acts always sickened him. His and his wife had been a wonderful pairing, even if he really loved Simon the whole time in the far back of his mind. She knew it, but never held it against him. She knew he loved her more, even if he could never total lose his love for his first true love.
“It is sickening that such happens but . . .”
David’s words faded as the wolf began to shift. Tony was sure none of them expected what appeared in front of them.
