Chapter 16
“Larry, get out of here.”
“It no longer matters.”
“Nothing has changed for you.”
“Everything has.”
“It has not.” Didn’t matter if it had. The bond had been broken and there was no way to get it back.
“My wife has found her true mate. She is going to join him. Taking my son with her. Once that is known I will lose my place among the pack. It has all been for nothing. I gave up my mate for nothing and I want him back. If we are together then maybe fate will destine us again.”
Doubted it would work that way, but it did not mean Rex did not want to be with him. Yet . . . Not where they could be caught. In his bathroom was not wise. Rex was the lowest among the pack and anyone could walk in at any time without repercussions.
“Go. Please.”
‘Do you not want me.” Larry ran his hands down his back, stopping on his ass.
“Not here. Not know.” Hardest words in the world to say, but they were pure truth. “Go.”
“For now.” Larry stepped out and Rex quickly washed off after he heard the door shut.

He made his way to the living room and took the seat Mr. Chamberland pointed at. He listened as he was told that he would keep his mouth shut about anything related to the pack and how they lived. Other words, he was to not say anything about his life. He doubted the guy coming would go for that, but he’d give it a try
The knock on the main door put a knot in Rex’s stomach, which dropped to the floor when the man that bore his angular cheeks and rounded eyes and square forehead walked in. He’d always assumed he resembled someone ancestor on his mom or dad’s side, but turned out he looked just like his bioglical father. There was no way Mr. Chamberland could dispute the man’s claim. He could, but the test would prove it. Not that it hadn’t already done so. He was sure of that. If it hadn’t then Mr. Chamberland would not have allowed him inside the house.
Mr. Chamberland walked up to the man, but he walked around him and came right over to him. Rex stood as the man held his hand out, but a grunt from Mr. Chamberland had him dropping his hand before he could reach the man’s hand. The guy looked over his shoulder and then shrugged.
“My named is Aspen Perry. Your mother was my true mate. I have searched for you and her both since the day we created you.” Aspen came to the empty spot beside me and sat down. “Let’s go for a walk and get to know one another.”
Rex stood to be greeted by a growl, only for Aspen to lift one eyebrow at Mr. Chamberland. “It is my time to visit my son. If you stop it, then you will face your Pack Master.”
“Was not stopping it. He has not felt well today. I simply would like for him to remain inside and rest.”
Mr. Chamberland did not want his stiffness to reveal itself. Kind of glad his interference, because walking would be difficult at that time.
“I assume he has seen a doctor.”
Mr. Chamberland nodded and started to leave the room, but as he did, Sara came running in and right up to me. She wrapped her arms around me and said, “Let’s go out tomorrow night.”
Rex put her at arm length, shaking his head. “That will not be possible. I am sorry.”
“You will.” Mr. Chamberland said and patted Sara on her shoulder.
“I will not.”
Mr. Chamberland leaned forward and whispered, “It’s that or terminate your time with this dickweed.”
He turned toward Aspen and ran a hand across his face before he broke his own heart. “I’m sorry, Mr. Perry, but I am not feeling so well. I would like to go and rest. Will you exscue me.”
Rex did not wait for a response. He left the room. As he went to shut his door he heard raised voices promising that he would have time with his son and that he had messed with the wrong supernatural. Then Mr. Chamberland shouted so loud the windows rattled. Before I could reach the bed he had jerked the door open and grabbed him by the back of the collar. Rex did not fight him, he let him drag him down the hallway and into a dark room.

Chapter 15
Rex spent the last three day listening to Mr. Chamberland drone on about how much his mother had disgraced herself by having him, a mixed breed. How that he was still going to pay for that fact soon as he saw this warlock and told him that he wanted nothing else to do with him. Rex wasn’t so sure he was going to do such. He was a man with his own mind and he knew how to use it. Did not matter what happened to him as long as he did what was right. Until he saw the guy and judged him himself there was no decision going to be made on his part.
Larry came in with the key an hour before the meeting was to take place. “Let’s get you out of there and to your room. You are to clean up and put on the clothes Alpha laid on your bed. Then join him in the living room.”
“Suck precise orders.”
“Please do as he says.” Larry unlocked the cage door and reached in to help me scoot out.
Each bone cracked as I moved forward and the muscles refused to stretch. There was no way an hour was going to allow my body to loosen up. A hot shower would help, but three day in an small kennel would take more than an hour to work out.
“You got your legs under you?”
No. “Yes.” No way would I let him see weakness.
“I can’t stand to see you like this, but I admire you standing up for yourself. More than that, I admire all the help you have given the pack members. Lots more have came to me.”
Damn. I was glad to help them, but I was not so sure how much more Mr. Chamberland was going to be willing to take before his punishments for me became a bit harsher. Lately, he’d been going easy on me because of the upcoming meeting. Once it was over . . .
Larry got Rex into his room and onto the edge of the bed. He knelt and reached for his shirt, but Rex knocked his hand away.
“I’ve got it. Go on.”
“I want to help you.”
“Go before you get into trouble.” As much as Rex and his wolf longed to have him, Larry was no longer theirs.
“Don’t care.”
“I do.” Rex pushed to his feet and made his way into the bathroom. He’d just gotten his shirt and pants off when the door opened and shut behind him. He looked over his shoulder and Larry stood there, taking him in.
“I should never had given you up.”
“You did what you needed to. Now go before you screw up what you wanted.”
Rex cut the water on and stepped under the hot water. He had just got shampoo on the rag when the curtain parted and Larry stepped in behind him.

Chapter 1
Not another one. Rex cranked up the stereo, drowning out his mom and dad’s shouting match. He was not sure what was taking place between the two of them. They never once raised their voice to one another. Not until his eighteenth birthday. Last two weeks, they’d had a continuous shouting match. Wasn’t sure if it was the same topic or something different each night, but always ended up the same way, dad storming into the guest room and mom into their room crying until she fell asleep. It was old. I wanted my lovy, dovy parents back. I missed them making me sick with their PDA around my two best friends. It was two weeks from Summer Break and it was my last one before I left for college. I did not want it full of them yelling at one another. Nope. Wanted it full of time on the ranch, racing the horses with Seth and Calvin, and nights spent two towns away in the clubs.
The bedroom door flew open and mom’s short, hard working built frame body marched in and over to the stereo.
“Downstairs, please.”
“Mom, privacy much.”
“You should have answered when I knocked.”
“Didn’t hear you.”
“Guess not, dang gum radio up loud enough they could hear it ten miles down the road.” She grinned at me, then marched out the door, as she repeated herself about getting downstairs.
Took a few more minutes to tidy up the bedroom, since mom had glared at the dirty shirt laying on the floor. She was one for neatness. Always had been. Then I made my way downstairs, finding dad sitting on the left side of the room, on the sofa near the window, staring out it. Mom sat on the opposite side of the room, which put a good twelve feet between them. Mom stared at dad, but her lips were down and her typical happy filled blue eyes were dull and sad. It broke my heart. Filled me full of fear.
“What’s up?” He sat down on the sofa that sat in the middle of the room in front of the red brick fireplace.
Mom moved to the edge of her seat and sighed, putting my already anxious body on edge. He sure did not get what he was expecting.
“Rex, your dad and I need some time alone to work out our issue.”
Good. No divorce. He could take a deep breath. Or so he thought.
“We are going to send you to North Carolina for the Summer. You are going to stay with some of friends of mine.”
“What! Hell no.”
“Watch that mouth.” Dad snapped.
“Dad, it’s my last Summer before college.”
“You will be home many times before you graduate from College. You will see Seth and Calvin lots. Not like they aren’t going to same college as you.” Mom sat back, nailing me with her  the subject is decide it’s over with stare.
“Dad, help me out here. You always told me about your Summer before you started college.”
Dad stood and walked over to the doorway, turning back to look at mom and then sighed deeply before he walked out of the room. He’d never walked out before a conflict was resolved. What in the world? None of this made any sense.
“Mom, please. I’ll stay at Calvin’s. You know his mom won’t care. You won’t have to see me at all.”
“No, Rex. I’m sorry, but this is the way it has to be.” She shook her head and looked me in the eyes. “I’m sorry. This is my fault, but you will understand soon enough. Go pack your suitcases. I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow morning.” She got up and left the room, leaving him sitting there seething.

Prologue
Cool grass tickled his palms as he pushed himself up. He jumped to his feet, coming down on bending knees, scanning the area. His hand went behind his back, but his wand was . . .
Where was it? For that fact where was he? He knew all of Northern California’s mountains and he was not in them. What was the last thing . . .  Carp! Where was Daniella? She had just told him . . . No. He had to find her. He needed his wand. He needed to get to her. Tell her he knew she told him the truth. And how he knew it. It was beyond time to tell her who he was. And that he knew who she was. If his head did not hurt so darn bad, he could have figured out what had happened right after she told him they had just created their child.
He wasn’t helpless though. He came from one of the most powerful family among the Supernatural World and knew how to use his natural born given gifts. He could locate his mate and his unborn child. Bring them back together as a family. First things first, locate his mate. He had given her the perfect tracker the day he ran across her. She’d promised to never take it off and over the last four months she’d wore that purple stone necklace every day. Jut had to get home to the tracking board and let it’s do it’s magic. As much strain as it put on one’s body to travel through time and space without the use of a locked on location he’d have to. He took one more around, but gained no perspective from where he was. It was some nondescriptive barren circle among a cluster of pine trees. There was no birds chirping to give me a clue as to what native creatures called the area home, or none scurrying around the ground. There was nothing to aid me, so I had to do it the old fashion, and more challenging way.
He lifted his arms, walked in a circle four times and took on a melancholy tone as he chanted the phase that would transport him through air to his home in Northern California. There he could get to work on locating his mate and unborn child. That was all that mattered. Once he had them, he could take them home to the Virginia, North Carolina state line.
