Chapter 16
“Larry, get out of here.”
“It no longer matters.”
“Nothing has changed for you.”
“Everything has.”
“It has not.” Didn’t matter if it had. The bond had been broken and there was no way to get it back.
“My wife has found her true mate. She is going to join him. Taking my son with her. Once that is known I will lose my place among the pack. It has all been for nothing. I gave up my mate for nothing and I want him back. If we are together then maybe fate will destine us again.”
Doubted it would work that way, but it did not mean Rex did not want to be with him. Yet . . . Not where they could be caught. In his bathroom was not wise. Rex was the lowest among the pack and anyone could walk in at any time without repercussions.
“Go. Please.”
‘Do you not want me.” Larry ran his hands down his back, stopping on his ass.
“Not here. Not know.” Hardest words in the world to say, but they were pure truth. “Go.”
“For now.” Larry stepped out and Rex quickly washed off after he heard the door shut.
* * *
He made his way to the living room and took the seat Mr. Chamberland pointed at. He listened as he was told that he would keep his mouth shut about anything related to the pack and how they lived. Other words, he was to not say anything about his life. He doubted the guy coming would go for that, but he’d give it a try
The knock on the main door put a knot in Rex’s stomach, which dropped to the floor when the man that bore his angular cheeks and rounded eyes and square forehead walked in. He’d always assumed he resembled someone ancestor on his mom or dad’s side, but turned out he looked just like his bioglical father. There was no way Mr. Chamberland could dispute the man’s claim. He could, but the test would prove it. Not that it hadn’t already done so. He was sure of that. If it hadn’t then Mr. Chamberland would not have allowed him inside the house.
Mr. Chamberland walked up to the man, but he walked around him and came right over to him. Rex stood as the man held his hand out, but a grunt from Mr. Chamberland had him dropping his hand before he could reach the man’s hand. The guy looked over his shoulder and then shrugged.
“My named is Aspen Perry. Your mother was my true mate. I have searched for you and her both since the day we created you.” Aspen came to the empty spot beside me and sat down. “Let’s go for a walk and get to know one another.”
Rex stood to be greeted by a growl, only for Aspen to lift one eyebrow at Mr. Chamberland. “It is my time to visit my son. If you stop it, then you will face your Pack Master.”
“Was not stopping it. He has not felt well today. I simply would like for him to remain inside and rest.”
Mr. Chamberland did not want his stiffness to reveal itself. Kind of glad his interference, because walking would be difficult at that time.
“I assume he has seen a doctor.”
Mr. Chamberland nodded and started to leave the room, but as he did, Sara came running in and right up to me. She wrapped her arms around me and said, “Let’s go out tomorrow night.”
Rex put her at arm length, shaking his head. “That will not be possible. I am sorry.”
“You will.” Mr. Chamberland said and patted Sara on her shoulder.
“I will not.”
Mr. Chamberland leaned forward and whispered, “It’s that or terminate your time with this dickweed.”
He turned toward Aspen and ran a hand across his face before he broke his own heart. “I’m sorry, Mr. Perry, but I am not feeling so well. I would like to go and rest. Will you exscue me.”
Rex did not wait for a response. He left the room. As he went to shut his door he heard raised voices promising that he would have time with his son and that he had messed with the wrong supernatural. Then Mr. Chamberland shouted so loud the windows rattled. Before I could reach the bed he had jerked the door open and grabbed him by the back of the collar. Rex did not fight him, he let him drag him down the hallway and into a dark room.

Chapter 1
The walls shook, plaster trickled down as water sprayed from the bathroom as the upper level fell in. He dove for the doorway, crouching in on himself, praying to survive the earth quake. His mind raced over how and why there was an earth quake in his small town. Last major weather in Cotton was some seventy years ago, according to town history. The town had been snowed in for an entire three weeks thanks to the five feet of snow. Several lives had been lost during that. Would hate to see how many was taken from the unexpected shaking and rattling of homes and apartments.
Shouts filled the air as a huge boom richochet through me, putting shivers and ripples through my entire body. That hadn’t been a normal sound. Not that anything was normal when the world shook.
Wasn’t sure how long passed before calmness reclaimed his mind, body, soul, and apartment. With ease he stood, knocking aside some plaster dust from his shirt. He took a cautions look around and found that the entire upstairs rested in his living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Was sure the bedroom had faired no better. One good thing about it, the man who lived there was not home during the day. For once luck had come calling. Or had it? Had the abnormally hit the entire town? If so . . . him working from home had been a blessing. Those poor people at the office was on the twelfth floor. Not a place I would have wanted to be during such a horrific earth quake.
“Edward, Edward, you okay?”
Was he? Few small scrapes, but nothing bigger than what looked like a cat scratch and a couple of bruises. He’d avoided getting hit by any falling building. The doorway had not crumbled on top of him.
“Fine, Mr. Winchester.”
“Good. Good. Did you see that explosion?”
Why did he sound so chipper? The entire world had shaken and fallen down around us.
“It had to go at least fifteen stories into the air. It was awesome.”
Awesome? What in the world? Wait . . . did he say explosion? “Explosion?”
“Yeah, it’s what caused all this.”
“Not an earth quake?”
“Nope, son. Just some kind of explosion. Reckon it was a gas line explosion.”
Sirens could be heard, growing louder and louder as they came into sight.
“Can you get out safely?” A deep voice yelled from the roadway.
Edward braced his arm against a huge chunk of the ceiling, pushing down on it. It seemed sturdy enough, so he climbed up and carefully made his way out his missing front door. How did an explosion do so much damage to an apartment? It could not have been . . .
“Crap.”
Heat swamped him as he exited the rubble. He looked up and saw the reason behind the destruction.
“You okay, Sir?” Deep voice asked as he came up to my side, taking my arm, steading him.
“Fine.” He muttered. “What happened?”
“Was it a bomb?” Mr. Winchester asked the man wearing a dark blue pair of pants and a white shirt.
“Not sure, Sir.” He moved me to the edge of our brick wall next to the garden, which was covered with white dust particles that were floating down and sticking to everything. It was as if snow had come in the middle of Summer. “Let’s get you somewhere safe.”
“Here is fine.”
“No, it’s not. The fire could spread quickly.”
Edward took a seat and took in the rest of the scene. Looked as if the only apartment that was affected by the blast had been his. Course, he lived on the end of the building and nothing sat between him and the huge blaze consuming the Earth. The two half-built buildings sitting beside the apartment were burned to char. The god-awful scent struck him hard, but it did not kick his mind into a sensible gear. All he could think about was where he would live and how he would replace all his belongings. He’d only been in town for five months and had not even found the gentleman he had to report into. Man seemed to be evasive. Looked like that would be put on the back burning until . . . How long would it take for him to get back on his feet? Seemed like a stupid question when he knew there were people at the construction site, who could be dead or injured and he was being fussed over because of a few scratches.
“This apartment is being evacuated for everyone’s safety.” The deep voiced man said.
Only at his words did I realize that the rest of my neighbors where filing out of their homes and moving to their vehicles.
“I’ll drive . . .” Where would he go? He had no family in the area.
“Edward,” Mr. Winchester came to my side and patted my shoulder. “Your car is . . .”
One look explained the trialed off sentence. The front of his apartment rested across the top of his car. “Dang it.”
“Richard, get him to the ambulance.”
Ambulance? Crap. That explained the white shirt and dress like pants.
“Come on, Sir. Let me help you to the ambulance and check you out before we leave for the hospital.”
“Don’t need a hospital.”
“You are in shock.”
He might be, but he was not going to go to the hospital. He had no insurance and did not need the bill when he had to figure out how to find a new place to live. Far as he knew, there were no vacant apartments at his complex.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Richard, get a move on.”
“He’s refusing aid.”
“Then get your ass in gear. There are people down the road hurt.”
“You sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”
“Go help the ones worse than me.”
“Okay. The van over there will take you to the shelter where arrangements are being made for those displaced.” Displaced? What a word to describe his situation. “Least go there and sign in. I’ll come by and check on you later.”
“Not necessary.” Edward shoved to his feet and sighed, taking one more look around.
“Sir,” Richard held his hand out to Mr. Winchester, “can you make sure he gets on the van?”
“I’ll take him there myself, Sonny Boy.”

Today, I’m shifting from flash fiction and taking a trip into the world of Spells. Now, I know very little, more like nothing, about casting spells so I did a search to discover some simple ones. “What did you do that for?” Larry stared at the huge dent in the plaster he’d replaced a month ago.

“Why do you think?”

“Not sure. All I did was give you a reason you did not need that damn book to cast a spell.”

“You said I didni’t need it, so I got rid of it.”

“You could not have laid it down?”

“Could have, but aiming at you head was a better idea.”

“You missed me by a mile.” Larry shook his head at his lover of ten years.

“Meant to.”

“You meant to, but you aimed for my head?” Another shake of his head. “Rex, which did you mean?”

Rex sighed. “Look,” he lifted his hands and stared at his palms. “These skills you have said I had for the last ten years have not improved. I still can not cast a damn spell from that book. The book you said belonged to my mom and dad.”

“It does.” Larry walked over to Rex and took his head, tugging him to the sofa. “Not all spells can come from a book.”

“Then where.”

“Your heart.” He rested his hand over there. “I have read that book. Each spell in there is handwritten.”

“So?”

“That means that the spell were created by someone among your family history.”

“Really?”

“Yes.” He rubbed his lover’s chest. “Stop and open your mind. Let it guide you. Let your heart spin the words to life. Then chant them. Let them come to life inside your head then flow from your sexy ass lips.”

Before the Salem Witch Trials

In 1962, Hartford, Connecticut two loving parents grieved over the loss of their eight years old daughter. While seeking for any explanation of why their daughter was brought back home near death they blamed their neighbor who had returned their daughter to them. They testified that before their daughter passed she stated that Goodwife Aryes was upon her. That was not where they stopped, they went into a detailed list of what their dying daughter swore to. These accusation brought back an generation old event that accrued in 1947. Then another woman was accused of witchery and taken to the town square and murdered for witchcraft.

Witch Fact

I was doing some research the other day and ran across this website that enlightened me to something I did not know. Wanted to share it with you guys.

We all know that we no longer have to worry over witch hunts, but our history shows us how much fear of the unknown and lack of knowledge can turn people into mosters. The Witch Hunts shows us just how much. I think that is why I found this little tid-bit of information interesting.

We do not automatically go to Vienna when we think about witches, and for good reason. There was only one case mentioned in our history. It is referred to as Plainacher Witch Affair, and occurred in 1583. The victim was a 70 year old lady who had raised her granddaughter. When the granddaughter left she began having seizures. Georg Schere, a man who believed in killing witches, came in and said the granddaughter had been hexed by her grandmother. Schere interrogated the granddaughter until she agreed that her grandmother had hexed her. Then Schere tortured the grandmother until she confessed.

I was surfing images of altars the other day while I had some downtime, and thought I’d share this particular one. It’s not fancy, or even bright, or dark, with colors like the others, but I found the article linked to the photo interesting.

Witchcraft Symbol

I was looking through some symbols the other day and ran across one that caught my attention. More like the information about it did.

Did you know that the CROSS was a symbol related to witchcraft before Christian adopted it. There is a different. The arms of the cross is equally length, whereas the crossbar being shorter. Why? The CROSS is witchcraft means balance. Witches may wear the symbol in order to gain balance in their live, or a reminder to maintain in balance. The ones who are marked with a cross on their wrist are ones who have mastered working and walking in balance.

Hermetic Quaternary

One of the required understanding to the theory and practice of witchcraft is the Hermetic Quaternary. Which consist of four parts. To Know. To Will. To Dare. To Keep Silence. This is an image of a triangle inside a circle. To know is the bottom of the triangle. To dare is the left slant of the triangle. To will is the right slant of the triangle. Keep silence is the circle.

To Know or Earth tells us that there is power in knowledge.
To Will or Air tells us that power and discipline is the device of creation.
To Dare or Fire tells us you have to know how to mediate and focus. Basically you are willing to create now do it.
To Keep Silence or water tells us that silence is a potent reserved power.

Witches Secret Names

Long ago being a Witch equaled death, so they used Witch Names. Covens function by these names along, to protect true identity if someone was captures and tortured to reveal names. Even today Witches enjoy using Witch Names. Choosing a name is said to inspire you to live up to your dreams, giving an energetic imprint into your future as a Witch.
