Chapter 8

“Not that I can find, but you know how deep TNT keeps his associates.”

He was right about that. Timmothy Nathan Tanker made sure he always had a trump card or two to play if things went south on him. And seven out of ten times it did. Man played rought and hard to get what he desired and and cared less about who got hurt int he process. He’d chosen a future Sire of Randal Sunman, perfect match for him. He was as foul of a Vampire as Timmothy Nathan Tanker was. Played as hard and rough as Timmothy Nathan Tanker did. They fit together like two halves did. When they first got together Javis believed them Heart Owners, but they swore it was only a business partnership between them. Big one. Together Javis had the law enforcement watching them at all times, but they kept their criminal acts so quite and below radar that no evidence could be found. Everyone knew each hit they made. Each beat down they gave for non-payment. Each property they took for failure to asscent to protection. The times evidence had been found on them . . . lawyers came in and got it dimissed for minor mishandling or failure to complete the warrant properly.

“How long ago was his last known interaction with TNT?”

“That’s just it . . . He is one of those people who began college at the young age of fifteen and passed the bar at the age of twenty. He was offered partnership one year after he joined the law firm. He interacted with TNT two months after he joined the firm and continued to work with him until . . . he left four years later.”

“Great information, but doesn’t answer my question.”

“He’s twenty-six years old, so . . . that was somewhere around a year ago. If he truly quit working with him.”

“You don’t think he did.”

“I can’t find him working for anyone else. But he is . . .”

“Getting money from somewhere. Has to be to buy his food. Five years at a top notch law firm would give him good money, but unless he . . . “Any investments that you found?”

“No. Not offshore accounts either.”

“This is . . . good. Good. We can . . . Between him having no income and having money coming in from somewhere and his previous involvement we can . . . that’s something we can work with.”

“I’m not sure if it’s enough. He’s going to be hard to crack.”

“Why do you think that?”

“The way he . . . His tone. His words. He is . . . He believes in what he says. Deeply. That means he won’t give up easily. Unless . . . It might take some heavy threats to convince him to change his tune.”

Mateo was correct, but we had somewhere to start. A place to pick up a trail. Unravel a thread. Dig a bit deeper until something bigger pops.

“How long do you think it will take to tie him deeper to TNT?”

“That’s . . . Might be impossible, but I can try. You know how tight lipped his people are. But . . . I’ll get my men on it.”

“Do that and I’ll come up with some way to stave off some of his speech.”

“Press conference? Thought you wanted to hold off on that until you had more on Enapay.”

“Did, but it’s going to take . . . Unless you think we could bring him in and try to get him to give us something by accident.”

Mateo gathered his papers and headed for the door, pausing before he left. “I’ll get intouch when I have him.”
