Chapter 27

Late sun evening rays trickled over Enapay as he stood staring out over the front yard. His thick chest muscles were accentuated by the soft baby blue polo shirt he wore. The dark gray slacks gave a great view of what Javis was sure was a tight, firm ass. What’d he do to be able to pick him up by it and have those legs wrap around his waist as he held him against a wall.

Fuck. The Heart Owner pull was rushing upon him. It would only get worse the longer he was near him. As the night went on his urge to take and claim him would grow more intense. It would become all but overwhelming. Alexander had warned him that having a date with him would be challenging, but he said it was doable. That he just had to keep his mind on the main focus of the evening. Getting to know Enapay. Letting him get to know him. Them getting on the same page.

“You look amazing, Commander and Chief.”

“Please, Javis. Afterall, you are . . .” Shit. He could not blurt out what he was to him. The World knew what Heart Owners were and the importance of them to a Vampire, but Javis had not told Enpay their indepth connection. He wanted the man to see him as a decent being before he discovered they were tied together for life.

“I am what . . .” Enapay strolled over to him and laid a hand on his chest, “were you going to say Heart Owner?”

“Huh.”

“My friend was right, wasn’t he. You and I are . . . Fated. Bound. Whatever you want to call it.” His hand crept up his chest and around his neck. “Did you think you could keep something like this from me?”

What was he supposed to say? He had hoped to, for a bit of time. “Not for long.”

“Why at all?”

“You heard your speeches, right?”

“Okay. Okay. Good point, but after our last talk . . . why not tell me then. Why not tell the world you found your Heart Owner. My friend’s Heart Owner was shouting it to anyone who passed by him the moment he found Jason.”

“You do know who I am, right?”

“Right. Commander and Chief. Life isn’t private at all. Can see you might want some part private and my stance towards you might have . . . most likely did . . . okay, did cause you some trouble. Is our connection the only reason you chose to change your stance on . . .”

“No. Not at all. You were right in your assessment.”

“Then why take a forward step now.”

“You.”

“Me?”

“You give me reason . . . me the courage to stand up and face those who should have known better than what they have done. You gave me the courage to stand up and do what I wished to do all along.” Javis tilted his head down, resting his forehead against his. “Are you seriously not upset over us being Heart Owners?”

Chapter 26

Javis decided that the small eat-in dining area of the kitchen would be best for his and Enapay’s small intimate dinner. He had his chef cook up some grilled honey glazed salmon and aspargas with a nice crisp, fresh garden salad and some homemade yeast rolls. He hoped Enapay loved it. The house smelled amazing to him, even though food no longer appealed to him. Felt more like a mudane task. One that took away time he needed devoted to more important task.

“Sir,” Cheft sat down a second set of plates and silverware, “if I may interject, Sir Alexander said to remind you that this time, eating is the important task.”

Huh? What did he mean by that?

“You look confuse, Sir?’

“Am a bit.”

“This is supposed to be a date, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then a date with a meal, means eating. That would be the task, Sir Alexander refers to.”

Right. Had to eat to be mingling with his Heart Owner. Leave it to Alexander to know he’d need reminding of his task. “Thanks, Chef. I assume Sir Alexander told you to make enough food for two.”

“Course he did, Sir.”

“Thanks again, Chef.”

“No problem, Sir. We are here to make your life easier.”

Most of the time they did that. Most of them. Some of them drove him up the wall, like Julian had earlier. On his drive back from the interview all Julian had done was drone on and on about how his interview had left so many holes for other press members to tear him down. Create more fires for him to put out. Javis hadn’t really cared how much harder it made his life, and he ended up telling him that, which made the man turn to face the window with crossed arms as he stuck his lower lip out at the cars that passed them by. Childish. How had he never seen how much like a young adult Julian acted? Soon as they arrived home, he ordered Julian to leave and not return until tomorrow. That hadn’t gone over well either. Took Javis calling in Mateo to get him to leave. He’d probably hear all about how foolish he’d been when Julian returned, but. tonight was too damn important for him to fool with that man.

“Speaking of making my life easier,” Javis patted Chef on his shoulder, grinning when the man winked at him. “Were we able to get the caramel corn that I discovered Enapay loved?”

“We were, Sir. It’s being fixed as we speak and will be put in the media room while you two eat supper. Will make a nice surprise for him, Sir.”

“I hope so. Thought it would be much better than chocolate.”

The chef tilted his head and tapped his chin.

“You don’t think so.”

“Not sure if anything is better than that wondrous, glorious creamy, milky, smoothy goodness. Especially, if it’s licked off my Johnathan’s. chest.”

“Ooo, no. Not a picture I want to see, but I can see why such a task might be appealing between to Heart Owners.” And he could. Javis would give anything to feel Enapay’s tongue teasing the skin over his chest and his teeth scraping his nipples. “Shit. Did you have to put such a picture in my mind?”

“Do I need to send the runner out to buy some chocolate?”

“No. I actually decided to buy him some as well.”

“Smart, Sir. Smart indeed. Covering all bases. He will have a magical night for sure.”

“Commander and Chief,” Mateo’s voice flowed from the other side of the kitchen. “Your guest is awaiting you in the living room.”

“Time to find out how much he loves the night I have planned.”

He gave the chef one last nod of approval and then made his way toward the small box of chocolate caramels he’d picked up on the way home.

Chapter 25

“Commander and Chief, how are you doing today, Sir?”

“Let’s cut to the chase. I know you, as well as the world wants to know my reaction to what Mr. Chavos’ time at the house with me.”

“You were always a cut to the chase kind of leader. It’s what drew so many people to you during your campaigns. It’s also what might have had many people overlooking some of your more . . . misguided points. Those that Mr. Chavos pointed out in his previous speeches. Those that he knows states you have set him at ease about. Just how did you manage to do that, Sir?”

“I believe that what Mr. Chavos said earlier stated his reasons for his change of mind, but as I was able to change his perspective about me, he has done the same for me.”

“What does that mean, Commander and Chief?”

“It means that as of the start of next week, the law requiring every human to have a Sire among their death will be voided. It will become a choice. An arrangement between a human and a vampire. Also, each sector will have a Vampire and a human leader to work alongside each other.”

He could hear the cameramen gasping and other behind the scene people murmuring in confusion. Javis just hoped that his Sire and Dracula was still deep in the earth and out of touch. If not . . . all he’d planned would be blown out of the water before it even began.

“Sir, are you now saying that you admit to what Mr. Chavos accused you of?”

“No. Not by any means. But like him, during my time with him, I listened to his opinions and thoughts on what I had done. How things could have been handled in different approaches. Like he changed his thoughts about my actions, I found his suggestions as important and logical. In fact . . . some of what he suggest held a more reliable method for both races to mingle among one another. If I had taken a poll among the humans as well as Vampires, I might have gotten the same suggestions he gave me during our time together. I do not admit to handling things wrong, but like anything, there might have been a better approach to have taken. That being said . . . I can rectify that. Which is what I aim to do by making these changes. And I will be taking some polls on how society as a whole would like their new society to be handled.”

The broadcaster’s eyes were wide, but he nodded his head the entire time Javis spoke. The murmurs from the bystanders had only increased and were becoming clearer. Somewhere agreeing with his rectifying actions, others were questioning his actions and reasoning behind it. He was sure some humans might even wonder if Mr. Chavos had blackmailed him or brainwashed him. All those thoughts would be put to ease when the world saw the truth behind their relationship, but until then he’d have to filed those negative ones.

“Well . . . I have to say, this is sudden. Unexpected, but for some will be a welcomed change. I look forward to see how the world takes to this change, Sir.” The broadcaster looked directly into the camera and signed off.

Javis held his hand out to the broadcaster and thanked him. Next step was to get. back to Enapay and make sure they had a true fire relationship that lasted a long time.

Chapter 24 part 2

“No.”

Alexander snorted, spewing blood all over himself. “Sorry.” He wiped his hand across his face as he got up and headed into the bathroom that sat off of the office.

“What was so funny about my question?”

“You do not get to go over what I am going to say, because you demand to.”

“I am your publicist. It is my place to make sure you do not screw up your image. And you are walking a tightrope in doing an interview right after this guy just caved and reversed his initial charges against you.”

Freaking idiot. Was he ever going to learn that he did as the Commander and Chief said, not the other way around. Or he did when it came right down to it. Javis Anderson the fourth answered to only two people. His Sire and Dracula. And at that moment . . . only himself because both of them were MIA in his life, leaving him to deal with his own life. Thankfully for a change. Felt amazing. Might not after they came back into his life, but he’d deal with that when it came to life.

“First,” Javis stood and pressed in on Julian, forcing him to step back. “You do as I saw. Not the other way around. And if I say no to something then that is the end of it. And what I say regarding my interview this time, and any other time, is up to me. Not you. Never has been. I’ve let you take the lead in the past to take stress off of me, but this time . . . I will take the lead. This is more important than anything every before. Are we clear on your status among my entourage?”

Julian hunched in on himself as he pressed himself into the wall. Javis hadn’t meant to become so aggressive with him, but if it got his point across then . . .

“Javis,” Alexander rested his hand on his shoulder, “calm down, bro. He’s got the point. I’m sure of it.”

“I do, Sir, Commadner and Chief. I’m sorry, Commadner and Chief. Meant no disrespect.”

“Sit down and hush up while I think on my speech.”

He walked back over to the desk and sat down in his ergonomics desk chair, leaning back in it, staring up at the little circle that had formed over his head at some point in his many years in the house. He could have painted over it a few years ago when he remodeled the office, but he told the decorated that he wanted that area left alone. Many, many hours had been spent studying it when he found himself stuck on a subject. Something about it opened his mind. Gave him a way to broaden him mind on the issue at hand.

“Oh God, you do not have a speech ready.” Julian muttered as he flopped into a chair. “This is awful. So awful. Please, let me help, Sir.”

“Hush, Julian.” Alexander snapped his finger. “Leave him be. He will be fine.”

And he would. Javis had the entire image coming to life in his mind. Before he knew it, it would all play out in front of him. Just like he needed it. And his Heart Owner would have a better grasp of who he was. What he was willing to do for him.

His plan would work all the way around.

Chapter 24

Alexander had been right. Julian cursed me to the end of the world and back. Two interviews that he had no control over the questions within a span of one day. Pissed him off to high-heaven, but like Javis knew, he got over it. Or he would. As for him, he’d had to come up with the perfect speech that stuck with what Enapay was going to say and kept him in the perfect light of the world. An he had a two hour window to come up with it because Enapay would not tell him what he was going to say. Swore he wanted it to be a surprise. Meant Javis had to listen to him, before he. could come up with his own speech. That’s why he found himself sitting inside a small dressing room inside his office with Juliian, Alexander, Mateo and Elijah. Only one of them knew the importance of what Enapay was about to say was to him.

“He best be polite and say what he promised.” Juilan sighed. “it was not right of us to let him write his own speech.” He glared over his shoulder at him.

“What?” Javis lifted an eyebrow at him. “What I say is what goes and he will do as he says.”

“He’s done scorned you to the public twice, why would he not do it again when he’s been given a free shot at it?”

“I trust him and that’s all you need to know.”

Alexander retrieved us some blood and sat down just as the broadcast began.

“We are here with Enapay Chavos, the gentleman who has dared to come forward multiple times with discriminating remarks about our Commander and Chief. He’s yet to deliver any solid proof as to his comments, but many of you have chimed in on how right he was. He has asked for this time today to make an important statement.” Barry waved his hand out to the cameras. “Go ahead. We are all interested in what you have to say.”

“Thank you, for allowing me to come on your show today, Mr. Tanner.” Enapay sat up taller, placing his hands in his lap. “I would like to tell the world that I have spent the last several days in the present of our Commander and Chief. Gotten to know him and his reasons behind his actions. After spending long hours debating his words I have came to the conclusion that my initial thoughts, as right as I believed them to be, they are misguided assumptions due to lack of evidence.”

“He’s doing a great job at making it look like he was the one that was in the wrong and not one bit your fault, yet . . .”

Alexander left the rest unsaid. He did not give one small opening where anyone could dig in and discover that Javis’ hidden motives for taking over the world was due to someone else. Yes, he claimed there were reasons he had no clue of, but that would have been the case with anyone’s goals in their lives. Even a Commander and Chief could manage to keep some facts hidden through a rigorous companion. Better yet, he left it so that Javis could come in and say that after listening to him he came to the conclusion that some of his methods could be regarded as barbaric and forceful, which was not what he was after.

“I could have done better, but it was not bad for an amateur.” Julian pushed to his feet. “Now, let me see your speech, Sir.”

“Doubtful.”

“I think this is too risky.”

“Thought you wished me to go my own way?”

“I do. Did. Do. Ugh . . .” Alexander hand ran over his face as a rush of air left his mouth. “I wish for things to be handled differently and I know you can do so, but to go against Dracula’s order. It could go all kinds of ways bad. For you.”

“But it will go all kinds of way good for the world as a whole. Can’t it?”

“Yes, but . . .”

“The worst Dracula will do is lock me away.”

“Wrong. He can kill you.”

“I’m Elizebta’s son. He loves her. She will not let him kill her eldest and favorite son.”

“You are risking too much on her status among the Royal Blood Society. And Dracula’s lover towards your Sire.”

He was right, but he’d watched the two of them since he’d been turned Vampire. Those two were closer than any lovers he’d ever seen. Elizebta was his trump card, so to speak.

“You’ve got that stone-cold-red-fire-killer face on, so I know you can not be talked out of doing things this way, so I’ve got your back.”

“Like always.”

“Always will.”

“Guess you should call Julian in to setup the press conference for you.”

Julian’s thrilled voice about a second press conference could be heard in his mind before he even picked up phone. That man loved nothing better than press. Good or bad. Both he swore brought people to your side. Guess he was right, but having negative people on one’s side wasn’t always the best thing. He wouldn’t be keen on the topic or the gigantic amount of work that would be coming his way once the speech went live. There would be so many fires for him to control or put out that he’d be a sleepless zombie for a week or two, unless he could find a bigger story to toss into the limelight. He’d do his best to do so.

“He’s really going to love and hate you, isn’t he?” Alexander’s small chuckle had me doing the same as I dialed his number.

Chapter 23

Alexander was right. Javis knew it. Doing it . . . Another story. He had to gear up his courage. Reve it up. Throw it into overdrive. He could do what had to be done. A little extra courage would be helpful. And he had the best thing.

Heart Owner.

And he was taking the first major step.

A Date.

Once he had Enapay sealed to his heart, he’d be able to do anything that needed doing. And the best way to win him over was to start making changes, but . . . Could he make such drastic changes without repercussions? No. There’d be some who’d kick on it. Just like there were some who kicked on the way he setup the world to start with. Would it be worth it?

That was the question. To win over Enapay, yes. For the entire human race . . . in the long run, yes. He’d forestall the pending eradication of their race, which the current path led them to. For the Vampires . . . It didn’t take them back into the shadows, or put them back to feeding in secret, but it would mean they had to mix among the humans more. Have more give and take among the humans than they Dracula’s plan has given them. Some would raise a stink over that. Others, like Alexander, would shout their glory to the sky and back. He needed to find a middle ground between the two.

What would work best for both Vampires and Humans? Full supremacy by either race isn’t the answer. That is what got them where they are. Javis’ goal was to change that, which inreturn would cease the elimination of the human race.

If a sole leadership isn’t the answer then . . .

Combination.

Merger.

Fusion.

“Alexander, time to merge them.”

“What are you thinking?”

Javis rubbed my temple, wondering how to answer his questions. He had the jist of what needed to be done, just . . . How long would it take to do a half overhaul of the world while trying to win the heart of a Heart Owner?

“Gong to change it so that each Sector is ruled over by an elected Human and Vampire. Do away with the law forcing humans to choose a Sire before their death. They can still choose to continue their lives as a Vampire if they wish, but it must be their wish and a Vampire must willingly agree to change them. “

“Sounds like a great plan, but . . . Will take some time to implement.”

He was right. Nothing happens overnight. My changes seems simple and straightforward, but they weren’t. Major. Took time for such changes to reach the entire world. Not everyone read newspapers, listened to radios or watched television. Some people only got changes via word of mouth, which slowed down how fast the changes could be put into effect.

“What do you think Dracula will say? And do you realize that people will see this as you admitting to what Mr. Chavos accused you of.”

“Dracula will pay me a hellish visit.” His visit demanded preparation in the style of mocked simulations, which Alexander made himself available for. He just had no clue yet. “As for my appearance . . . I’ll have to show that Enapay convinced me of the value of his thoughts and rebute the fact that I stole and lied about anything to get my way into the Commander and Chief position.”

Enapay’s words about his actions to obtain his position is correct if it was broken down into smaller pieces, but . . . It was politics and there was always another way to spin a story. Or a new one to throw into the headlines.

“This sounds risky?” Alexander’s foot danced back and forth over his knee. “What if Dracula demands more punishment from you for derailing his plans?”

Was a possibility, but he’d not done something like that in over six decades. Damn old ass vampire was too lazy.
