Chapter 32

Well, hell fire. Course there was a reason he went all cold fish on me. Other than his distain for me.

“Did you truly think I disliked your touch, Honey?” He nipped my ear again, tugging me to his side afterwards. “Ready to go watch that movie?”

What movie? We’d not discussed that. Was this some other official Underworld thing I wasn’t aware of. What good had it done me to read that stupid, huge ass book if it didn’t tell me all I needed to know?

He led us back inside and into the pantry area before I blinked. Felt like, at least. Moment we were inside the small four-by-four square room with the door shut, he slammed me up against the wall.

His lips slammed over mine, drinking every waking breath from me until we had to part. We both took in a couple of gasping breaths as we leaned our foreheads against one another. The contact had did little to ease my distressed cock. In fact, made it a thousand times worse. From the looks of the front of his nice ass pants, his problem had only became worse.

Without thought, I gripped the button of his jeans, but his hand came up to stop me. He lifted my chin so I was looking him in the eyes.

“I’m not taking you in this dingy place, and if you touch me that’s going to happen. Promise you that, Sweetheart. I I need you to understand I was not shutting you down outside or now without cause, Honey.”

“Then why did you drag us in here if not to be alone with me?”

“To explain, because there are visitors coming.”

Visitors? “I know no one.”

“Not for you, but for us.”

“Moloch’s next test, I assume.”

“Why is he testing me?”

“This time it was you he tested, but me.”

“What?”

“He sent the Underworld Times and instead of knocking to start with, they sent their photographer to try and get some uncompromising shots.”

Ah . . . That’s why he stopped me. We’d not been visible unless someone had snuck onto the property. Maga told me once Ez and I became official and he moved here that the place would be beefed up, but until then there were ways people could get to him here. That’s why His Highness sent someone.

“He wants to catch you in a compromising way.”

“Unsure what he thought he’d achieve from such a stunt, but Maga and myself are always aware of what is taking place around us. I might have been totally lost in you,” he gave me a chaste kiss. “But I heard the leaves rustle and felt the eyes on me before the guy had a chance to raise his monorinic camera.”

“Thank you.”

“For what, Honey?”

“Not allowing me to be photographed in such a manner.”

Knew he was the Prince, but never considered what all that meant for him. Or me, when I joined his life. Guess I’d have to learn to watch and listen while I’m outside. Would Maga help me learn the stuff required to do so? Did I have time to learn them before I failed another test his Highness sent our way?

“I would never allow such to be done to you. Anyone who dares come near you will have the entire weight of the Underworld come down on top of them. We clear, Honey? You are not going to have to change because we are together.”

“You can’t say that.” I kissed his sexy nose. “But it’s nice that you’d try to protect me from stuff you can’t.”

“And why can’t I? I’m the Prince of the Underworld. If no one else can, then who?”

“Has your life not been filled with looker-loos and story seekers since you were born?”

Hated when his shoulder slumped and he groaned.

“See you get my drift.”

“I don’t want to lose you because of these bastards.” He nuzzled my neck, licking it all the way up to my earlobe, nipping. “Honey, please don’t let them take you from me.”

“Who said anything about me doing such?” I hugged him tighter. “I”m too stubborn to allow such foolishness, and that’s what your Highness done by sending someone here, to take away what belongs to me.”

“I belong to you?”

“Yes, is that not what the prophecy and our hormones tell us?”

“I want you to belong to me, because you want to. Not because of nature or prophecies.”

“I do belong to you.”

Wasn’t sure what I done, or said, but it felt as if something broke through my breast bone. I reached up to my chest only to have my hand shoot between a fiery colored ray of light. I followed its trajectory and found it came to rest right over Ez’s heart. He stared down at the light, smiling and licking his lips. My fingers traced the beam up to the point my hand rested over his chest.

“You are officially mine now.” Ez laid his hand over mine. “And I could be no more the prouder than to call you my Chosen One.”

A knock on the pantry door pulled a loud shout from Ez. “Not know.”

“Sorry, Prince Ez, but you have company that is becoming persistent.” Maga’s voice was clear and concise with what he required of us, but Ez jerked the door open, snarling at him.

Maga took a step back, bowing as he said, “Sorry, Sir. Was unaware of your combining.”

Combining? Oh shit. Maga was right. My words. He’d asked me and I agreed, sealing myself to him in that moment. I hadn’t meant to, not at this point and time, but I had.

Damn it.

Was there a reason for a damn it? I mean I was going to give myself to him, that had already been concluded, so what difference did it make if it was earlier than I planned?

None.

Would have liked to have done it somewhere nicer and more romantic than a food closest.

“I’ll buy you some time, Prince Ez.” Maga turned and all but ran out of the room.

Ez sealed us back behind the door, jerking me against him and slamming his lips over mine, gripping my ass cheeks so hard I’d have bruises. He pulled us together until our chest were flush against each other, then hefted me into his arms.

“Can’t take you now, Honey, not like I want. Definitely, not in here. Want you in an amazingly, soft bed where I can devour every inch of you. One that we will spend the rest of our lives building a life together. First, though, we have to take care of the intruders.”

Not an option to answer him. His mouth covered mine and my legs tightened around his waist as our cocks slid over one another. Whoever was here, had better be dealt with quick or I might kill them.

He patted my leg after giving me one more swift kiss. “Hope down, Honey. Let’s go handle these bastards and then you can show me to our room.”

Ugh . . . What to say to that? He wasn’t, but was. Failed to explain how the Underworld worked. All I knew was from some story books and some lack education from school. Came into the entire situation with pitch black cloth over my eyes. Uneasy didn’t fit. Scared about didn’t fit. Didn’t want him to think that was because of him. Alone at least. It had been a combination of him and my mom. She should have left me a note at least. She felt it wise to enlighten Grandma Sto, but not her own son. The one she knew who would suffer through it. Felt like most of the blame fell on her, not him. Transition part, would have been easier if I knew it might have been a possibility to begin with. Could have prepared myself for it.

The deep rich taste of blood welled up in my mouth as skin peeled back from my lower lip. My hand flew up to my lips. Coolness and . . .

“What the . . . Are these . . .”

“Your fangs came in.” Maga blurred he was at my side so fast. “Wow, nice long set too. I’m proud of you.”

“Proud.” Of fangs. “Think need to sit down.” I reached out behind me, feeling the hardness of the wooden bed footboard.

Maga took grip of my arm and led me back until my legs hit the bed. I let myself drop onto the softest mattress I’d ever felt. More like a cloud. Where had he gotten such fine material? The books in school said the Underworld was drab and lacking. What I’d seen so far was far from it, beside Maga’s office. It needed a bit of help in my opinion.

“Fangs are a matter of pride among the Angire Demons. Each member of our family has had a set that reached the bottom of their lower lip. You have not failed in that department. It will intrigue Prince Moloch. I’m sure of it.”

“What else is important about our species?”

“First, we do not refer to ourselves as species.”

“Then what?” Incubus always referred to themselves as a species among their world.

“We are simply a Angire Demon or another demon from the Underworld. You will find that’s how each demon refers to themselves down her. Their pure demon name or just demon.”

“Okay.”

“What type of demon is Prince Moloch?”

“He doens’t have a specific kind of demon.”

“Huh?”

“He is the son of the father of the Underworld.”

“Doesn’t the being the leader of the Underworld mean he was voted in?”

A loud chuckled flowed from Maga as he shook his head. “No. By no means are we democratic. Moloch is the creator of all demons, each classification of demons came from his mind alone. He took a strength and capability he has and pulled a string of it from him into one demon style, creating a demon from it.”

“Is there some books I can read up on the Underworld? What we were taught seems a incorrect.”

“I will show you a history book that you will enjoy immensely.” Maga looked down at me. “Your color is returning. Does that mean you are feeling better?”

“My head has quit swimming. I think my own anger and the fangs surprising me hit me hard.”

“Would not surprise me if all of this has not consumed your entire mind and body, driving your entire system out of whack. The shift from Incubus to Demon would be traumatic on anyone, I would assume.”

Come to think of it, my body did ache, but the shock of mom’s major secret, meeting my biological father, being named fated to Prince Moloch’s, and desire for ripping someone in half and fangs ripping through my gums . . . blocked me from taking note of how much pain wracked my body.

It could all stay in the background far as I was concerned. Guess that’s why I asked my next unexpected question.

“How do you know so much about Prince Moloch’s and does he have a name?”

Chapter 14

It had taken an entire two hours to introduce me to the staff and show me around his mansion. Yes, mansion. The house held six floors with four wings, an entire servants quarter on the lower level that stretched across the entire layout of the house, which resembled a shape of a fork from the outside. Or so Maga’s gardner said when he described how their was a full demon style flower gazebo in the midst of each fork of the building. I’d asked him what he meant and he proceeded to explain how the mansion was designed. Think I stood there like a dumbass. Sort like I was doing at that moment, staring like I was in some kind of twisted fairy tail that had transported me from being some kind of medicore, decently living Incubus to be a prince demon. Hold up, I was supposed to be fated to be the lover of one, but that was different than being one.

I ran my hand over my face, inwardly groaning.

“Do you not like your wing, Nacal?”

Like? How could I not. It was six floors high, with an entrance of a grand ballroom. Had a small movie theater and bowling alley. No reason to leave the house to entertain myself. Good thing. Wasn’t too keen on getting out and about the Underworld. Didn’t think the place would be up my line. I preferred a mild style of life. What rested at my feet so far, was so far from it . . . my teeth ached from squashing the scream.

No sense in making Maga his home wasn’t nice. Was, just wasn’t for me.

“Son, what is wrong? We can change anything you don’t like. Money is no object.”

That was more than clear and the problem. “It’s nothing wrong with it.” I finally spit out, hoping it sounded truthful, because it was. Place was perfection. “How long have your lived here?”

“Bought the place I met your mom. Thought it would be the perfect welcome to the Underworld gift.”

Could all but see her reaction to that. Mom was a simple woman. Never lived over her means. Gave back to the Incubus/Succubus world. Wanted those less fortunate than us to have what they could. It’s why she fought so hard to ensure he children had the right to choose to live the way they chose. The way that our creator was sure to have had one mind, or we would not have been naturally been drawn to those of the same sex.

“Come to think of it . . .” A cloudy look took over baby blue eyes. “My Sweet, Sweet Jilysss wasn’t too keen on the place. Kind of looked like you did.”

He turned away from me, tilting his head, lifting his hand up to his face. When he refaced me there was a redness behind his eyes. Damn. He had really cared for my mom. He said mom and him had been fated, what did that mean for the one he said I was prophesied to be with? Would he feel as deeply for me? I mean, this demon had only a few days with my mom and I could already tell how deeply attached he was to her.

“The place hasn’t been used since Sweet Sweet Jilysss returned back to her desired family.”

“You mean . . .” What was up with all the people then? How had they known so much about him and the place? “It’s full of staff though.”

“Of course. I kept it up and the staff came with me from my other place when I came to prepare it for your arrival. Did not want my son to come home to anywhere but where his mom and I spent our time. It was to be our family home and then become yours. I will return to my own place once your and Prince Moloch seal yourselves together.”

“Huh?”

Why would we come to live here? He was sure to have his own place. He was the Prince of the Underworld. Wouldn’t he have guards of all kind? People waiting on him hand and foot? A dad with high-demands of his time? Surely, he had his own place that his father set up for him in a place that was more than easy to defend against threats.

“You look so confused.” Maga went over to the small booze colored metal framed desk that had been placed across from the king size bed. “I guess you are. Your world works way different than the Underworld. It was partly the turn off to a life among mine for Sweet Sweet Jilysss.” He gave a shoulder lifting sigh. “Guess I can understand. I learned everything I could about you world while you grew up, hoping to be able to help you with any issues that arose from the change of living styles and I’m already failing. Aren’t I?”

Chapter 7

Grandma knew something the rest of us didn’t. Other than my cloudy figured biological father. Ugh! Why had mom kept this from me? Because her life had been ended short. Sure she would have told me before this day arrived. Sure of it.

“Can I have some time with my Grandma? Alone.”

The ghostly, cloudy figure shook his head and I nodded to the door. Grandma Sto moved out into the hall and into the study that Ranko kept here.

“Don’t have to ask your question, Nacal. I know you want to know what I know and how.”

“Then explain.”

“All I can tell you is what your mother, rest her Inncubus Soul, told me in the letter.”

“Hold up.” I held mu hand up. “Mom told you about my . . . mixed status in a letter and you kept it from me. Let me be shocked like this.” How could she do that to me? Why Grandma Sto do that to me?

“I didn’t get it until after her will was read.” Ah . . . right. I remember. There had been a letter in there for Grandma Sto and Uncle Lal. Thought nothing of it. “She told me her darkest secret and told me she feared what might come to life this day.” Why tell her, but not leave me a letter explaining it to me? I should have been told first. Shouldn’t I? “She did not want you to know if Maga had tricked her, or been mistaken about what he’d been told.” Other words, she wanted me kept in the dark about my true self for the rest of my life. Great. Just great. Way to go mom, keep your son in the dark and your entire family about a bargin child you made. Save face for yourself. “She didn’t want that there to happen.”

“Huh?”

“That sadness creeping to life in those beautiful baby blues of yours. She never wanted to see such in any of her children. Can you remember a day before she died that such existed in your life?”

Grandma Sto was correct, but it didn’t detour the fact that mom kept a major fact about my life from me. Didn’t matter how much it would have hurt me or made me sad, she should have warned me about what might occur during my Journey Announcement Day. It was only fair I knew who I came from. Not like I didn’t know I wasn’t a full blood Inccubus to begin with. Or not a full blood family member of my family. They treated me like I was, but we all knew the truth.

“Nacal,” Grandma Sto came over and rested her hand on my shoulder, lifting my chin with her other one. “Your mother never saw you as anything but as her adorable little, baby boy. She loved you like she did all her children, treated you like she did all her children, can you not agree with that?”

I could, but it didn’t negate the fact that she kept something so major from me. Even as mad as I was at her, my chest still ached for her to wrap her arms around me and tell me that it was all going to be okay. There was no one else in the family that could give me that sense of peace. Grandma Sto, wasn’t that kind of person. Ranko, well he was a macho kind of guy and didn’t do hugs. Uncle Lal, he tended to be more like Grandma Sto on that front, but always played peace keeper in the family.

“I’m sorry she’s not here to explain this herself. “Grandma Sto stepped back. “But her letter was precise on how she wished you to handle this if it came up.”

“And how was that?”

Grandma Sto stood there with one eye raised, glaring so hard I wanted to wiggle. Guess she expected me to know the answer. Sort of did. Much as I hated it, I knew mom had wanted me to suck up the pain and anger at her disloyal act and go along with what had been thrown my way, because it was the reason she had created me in the first place. It was the bargain she made with the demon hovering in the other room. She needed me to fulfill her contract. I already had part of it, by being born, but the rest came to life when that damn mirror gave made me the prophesied man-bride to the son of Moloch, Ez.

Just great. I’d been born to be a pice of meat for someone else.

Chapter 3

“Oh, goody, he’s here.” Grandma Sto, jumped in place, clapping her hands.

What was she four and getting her biggest wish? And how can she be so freaking happy that I would be going to the underworld to become some man bride? I’d be leaving all the family behind. Lose the right to either be a Spirit walker, like Grandpa Sto had been. He told so many wonderful stories about his time among the Incbus Headquarters working for the King and walking the Spirit World so he could find answers out from the ancestors gone to the afterlife for the King. Told us one time he visit the very first Incbus. And Dad had been a Time Walker, he loved his ability to walk into the past to track our history for the King. He didn’t work in the future department, where I’d hoped to work. Always thought it would be super amazing to be one who traveled to the future to see what lay ahead of us if the King choice one route instead of another. And Ranko, he might always gripe and complain about being an Elements but I knew he secretly loved his job of enhancing the gardens to grow and produce the right amount human food that our kind required. Yes, Incubus ate steaks, potatoes and all the glorious vegetables that everyone else did. My dream might have been to follow in my dad’s footsteps, but the other two had never seemed like a disappointing option either.

“May I know your name?”

The booming voice shook the entire room, and every bone in my body quivered.

“His name is Nacal Sto.” Grandma Sto chimed in the quake of my silence. Hand’t planned on telling whoever the heck spoke. Wsan’t none of his business. Didn’t know him and didn’t want to get to know him.

“Nacal, unique name. May I ask what your mother believed it to mean?”

Each mother gave their child’s name a meaning upon their birth and then told them her belief on his thirteenth birthday. It was a special moment between child and mother. One I would not share with just anyone. And this guy had no reason to invade my private moments.

“That is perfectly fine, Nacal. We will have years for you to trust me with such private moments.”

“The Hell he will.” Ranko moved in front of me. “My brother is remaining with me.”

“That is where you are incorrect, Young Sir, but I commend your desire to protect your family. I am unsure why you feel you need to do so. His name has been down in history since the day he was conceived.” Smoke streamed from the fireplace, swirling and twirling around each person around the room, hovering over my family for a moment, giving off a drown out moaning sound before moving onto the next one. It never approached me, but it extended it period of time over Ranko, bobbing up and down making the sounds it released waver. Ranko of course swatted at the smoke, disturbing it but it never stayed out of form for long.

“Get away from me.”

“Where is my, Sweet, Sweet Jilyss?”

He knew mom.

How? Mom never mentioned anyone who could speak through smoke. And how could he do so. Never heard of an ability like that.

“I know she would have warned our son of what may lay ahead of him upon his Journey Assessment Day.”

Our Son.

Chapter 1

The tilting antique full length mirror loomed over me, even thought it failed to catch my entire image. All that came in view was my chest to my shins. My hands itched to move, but I knew better. The rules were clear. They’d been etched into my mind upon my birth, like all Incubus.

Upon your twenty-first, stand in front of a full length Decision Mirror to determine the next phase in your life. Never touch the mirror or your life journey will be revoked. Never wish upon the mirror or your path will be detoured. Never use another family’s mirror or risk turning into stone.

Most dreamed of the day they stood in front of the Decision Mirror. I had until I was thirteen and my eldest brother, Ranko, played a mean trick on me. He was born on Halloween and thought it would be harlious to tell me that the a huge, red and yellow spotted snake came out of the Decision Mirror, speaking in our race’s language then struck before returning to his home inside the mirror. He’d gone as far as to fake two small snake-like teeth marks on his shoulder blade. He chose snake, because they became my biggest fear after getting caught in a snake pit when I was five.

“Well, what has it said?” Ranko asked from the hallway. “What is taking you so long, pipsquik?”

Ranko rushing felt wrong. Knew he only done it because he felt like he had to. Most of the time he ignored me. Left me to my own devices, which is the way I liked it. Felt sorry for him, sort of, but was glad he stepped up and took me in when Mom and Dad were killed the fire that consumed the Incubi Headquarters when it was bombed by the Succubus 4Life group. Stupid ass group believed that just because history showed Incubus going after females that they could not be attracted to men. Wasn’t the case and my mom and dad, liked over two-thirds of our government, supported that choice and implemented the decree that Incubus had the right to chose their own partners, whatever gender or number of partners that might be.

“Nacal, I know it’s difficult, but it’s tradition and they would want us to follow through with it. Grandma Sto is waiting with Uncle Lal, the entire place has been prepared for your announcement. Come on, get with it.”

Course they were. I’d told them I didn’t want no big show made of this day. Mom always made a grand show for our Journey Announcement Day, but it was done in front of the entire family. I’d managed to convince Ranko to allow me to do so in private.

Did so because I really didn’t want everyone to see my fear of standing in front of the Decision Mirror. Entire body shook as I told myself to squat, placing my face in front of the mirror, getting the future of my life, but my young knees refused to bend.

The door flew open and Grandma Stood and Uncle Lal barged in with Ranko storming in behind them screaming at them to get out.

“What are you doing?” I spun, hoping I gave them all the best imitation of mom’s glare that put the fear of death in us kids. Must not have because Grandma Sto placed her hands on her hips and pointed at the mirror.

“You will not disrespect your mother’s tradition by doing this alone. Now get your scrawny, square Sto face in front of that mirror.”

Think her stern voice might put mom’s death glare a step down from the top rank of put a child in his or her place. Sure did me. Had me taking in a deep breath and facing the Decision Mirror again.

I steeled my nerves and forced my knees to bend as I said the magical words that evoked the Decision Mirror.

“Mirror of Mirror of the Sto family line, enlighten me. Am I Spirit? Am I a Time? Am I Elements?”

All that came into view was the face that stared at me each morning and night. Blond hair that touched the base of my neck and bangs feathered to the right. The eyes staring back at me was my father’s, which caused an ache deep inside me each time I looked, which was why I limited my time in front of a mirror. Another reason I dreaded Journey Announcement Day. My father wasn’t like my Mom, Dad and four older brothers. Nope. He was an enigma to me. Mom refused to tell me who he was, or where he lived, or how I came to be when she was still with the father of my four brothers. My Dad wouldn’t discuss it either and none of my four brothers knew, or if they did they refused to speak to me about it. I’m sure Ranko knew. He had been thirteen when I was born, old enough to take note of what was going on around him and his parents, but his lips remained sealed.

“It’s happening.” Grandma Sto’s excitement drew me from my thoughts and had me glancing up. Black and white smoke formed swirled, fast until it began to take shape, but it wasn’t one of the three paths. In fact, what came into view had me tilting my head sidewards and leaning towards the mirror. I tried to look behind the grayish-white, cloudy looking skull, but everything behind it was pitch blackness. No sign of the Spirit, Time or Element Symbol. All the mirror showed was the skull.

“No! No! No! Not my brother.”

What? He knew what the skull meant? I spun to face him, but Uncle Lal’s pale face and Grandma Sto’s huge, gum showing smile had me pausing. Her comment drove more fear through my already consumed body.

“He has been chosen by the Underworld.”

Photo Opening Line: Took me twenty long years of searching the darken corners of the world, but I'd caught the last freed spirit and trapped him behind the gates of hell. Tricked him into it more like it, which is why he stood there slamming his fist against the barrier that kept him from crossing back onto Earth.

Hon, you with me?”
I nodded, but knew he wasn’t following his lover of fifteen years. Fifteen years and he’d never knew. Never expected. He knew Fire Demons existed. All kinds did. One of the Water Demon accidently drowned some of the Secret Service when they tried to commander his home to hide the Vise President after his convey came under attack.
“Hon, you don’t,” Rex took his hand, “look so good.”
What did Rex expect? His lover, best friend, man he told everything to, but was not worthy of the same.
“I could care less what you are.” I jerked my hand free, slamming his palm into Rex’s chest, sending his kneeling lover to his ass. “You lied to me.”
“That’s . . . your . . .” Rex stood and shoved his hands into his pocket. “it doesn’t bother you that - -“
“I couldn’t care less if you shit and spit fire, but I told you every little despairing accident that affected my life before and after I met you.”
“I’m sorry, Cage.”
“Why?”
“No one in my family have every told anyone about our horrible side.”
Horrible side? What in the world? Did his lover truly believed that demons were bad? None Cage knew were. His sister-in-law was a Tree Demon and her sister was a Fire Seeker Demon. From what he learned about her taught him that she was born mix breed, which apparently was the worst kind of demon known. Why did Rex think his fire side was horrible. Surly he had miss understood what Rext meant.
“Hon, what’s going on inside your sexy, gorgeous mind?”
“Do you really believe your fire side horrible?”
A nod and lowered head was his answer.
“Why?”
“When I was five I lost control, creating a blaze that consumed the bedroom. The smoke . . . it was suffocating. Deadly. Literally.”
I easily came to my feet, hugging Rex into my chest. He might have been pissed about the lie, but like most time, something knew came to life. His lover’s fear of fire made sense. That was worth more than any anger.
