Edward wasted no time. He rounded the corner and used the one talent he had to escape.
“Spirit, soar me away into your bosom.”
The night lights swirled around me as the world spun out of control. Edward gripped the hem of his shirt, like he always did when he borrowed power from Spirit. Soon as the whirling and flying sensation died down, he looked around to see where he was.
Large color stained window panes surrounded him. Cherry pine wood floors rested under his shut covered shoes. That had him jumping over to the welcome mat.
“Where am I?”
Vibrate, abstract art covered the light blue walls. Someone had great taste. Took someone with money to own a Wassily Kandinsky.
“Whose house is this?”
He slid aside the silk style curtain having over the front door window. Thanks to a porch light he could make out evenly trimmed grass and a very well stocked herb garden. No car sat in the driveway.
What to do? He did not recognize the area. Where was he? Didn’t matter. He had to get out of there before someone came home. Not an easy explanation as to how he got into the house. Door was locked. Security system working. He could not tell them he asked Spirit to aid him and ended up in the middle of their hallway. Dang it. Why was Spirit so unpredictable. It’s why he did not use it. Okay, it wasn’t Spirit. It was him. He hated studying anything other than academics. Spirit training was a useless skill in his mind. Much smarter to focus on the items that would get him into Yale. Get him to the point that he could be an amazing lawyer. Not that any of that had panned out for him. He had not earned the scholarship and his parents refused to pay for his education. Told him it was best if he worked for his own dream. Not the true reason behind their traitorous way. Nope. It was out of retribution for him refusing to go through the Choosing Ceremony. Dad might have given me the note that got me out of going through such, but he did not like doing so. Only reason he had, was to keep my ass out of trouble. He did not want his name smeared in any kind of scandal. He had a seat of power to maintain and that meant keeping his nose clean. His and his families.
Car lights filled the window.
“Shit.”
He skirted through the hallway, making sure he did not touch anything. Least amount of shoot would give him away. He made it into the kitchen before he ran into a huge black pit bull dog.
Huge white teeth greeted him as saliva dribbled from his mouth, plopping onto the floor. Edward looked right, finding a counter blocking his path. To the left sat a six seater table. Going backwards wasn’t an option. The owner of the house would be inside before he could reach a window to escape through. Not that it would do him any good. That would only set off the alarm. Not that opening the back door wouldn’t do so.
“Damn it.” He held his hands out in front of him. “Nice doggie. Can you let me slip by you?” His foot froze in air when the dog lowered his head, readying to charge. “Come on, let me by, please.”
“He won’t.”
The husky voice had him spinning, forgetting the ready to attack dog.
“Fuck!” Edward screamed as the dog latched onto his leg.
“Heel, Rex.” The man had scooped him up and sat him on the counter before Edward could take two breaths.
“No. Let me down.”
“Stay there and let me check your leg.”
“No. I’m covered in shoot.”
“It will wipe up.”
The man took hold of his leg and ripped the bottom part of my jeans. He snatched up the drying towel that rested behind me, pressing it to my leg.
“Barely broke the skin.” The man shooed Rex away when he came up to his side. “Get, you mutt.”
“Mutt.”
“Yeah. He’s a great companion.”
“He’s huge.” Dangerous. Knew how to protect his home from people who suddenly appeared in his house. Question was . . . “Why did he not attack until I came in here?”
“How did you get here? Hold this.”
Edward had no choice. The man had taken hold of his hand and slammed it against the reddening towel.
The man’s body swayed as he walked over to the tall antique cabinet and opened the door, extracting a huge first aid kit. He laid it on the table and retrieved some cause and a needle and threat pack.
“Won’t be necessary.”
The man looked my way, smiling. “Right. You going to answer me? You were not that far ahead of me when you ran from me.”
Ran fit. Edward had hoped to get far from the man. Not land in his house. Spirit had a twisted sense of humor.
“Why did you run from me? Why not tell me your were a SpellBinder?”
The man glanced at his watch, frowning. “Got somewhere to be. Great. Get going. I’ll just take my leave.”
“Oh, no you don’t.” The man was in front of me before Edward could get off the counter. “You are not going anywhere until we talk this out.”
“You’ve got somewhere to be. We can talk later.” Much later. Like never.
“My trip can wait.”
Great. “Listen, just let me go. Pretend we never met. You know this is not possible. It is a mistake.”
A deep, rich chuckle had my cock throbbing, but did not sway him into changing his mind about the two of them. Nope. There was no way the two of them would be accepted by the Coven. Not as hard as the Coven leader pushed him about not have gone through the Choosing Ceremony.
“Mistake.” A loud huff spoke louder than words. “Not hardly.” The man pulled out a chair and sat down, leaving Edward no way to move.

What was he doing? He could not hold Edward hostage, even if his mind screamed for him to. Richard had more sense than that. Didn’t he. Normally.
The tall, slender man beside him jerked his arm, but Richard refused to release his grip. Sometimes it was great to be strong. Most SpellBinders were, but the man next to him was not. What had happened to his genes? More importantly how had the two of them been paired together. Was not heard of. Not in his neck of the woods. Area 2 was one of the smallest areas among the United States. Was made up of only five or six Covens. All lived in different manners, most of which I despised, but he made a promise to his mom. One he would not break. Even if she had him promise so that he would settle down and have some children. Not like she didn’t know he preferred men. He was not the only one of his Coven to refuse to go through the Choosing Ceremony. First, but not the last. Four others had. People had not understood their reasoning, or cared. All they’d saw was fellow Coven members refusing to obey. It had taken him reaching out to his father, which he never did, to keep his status among the Coven. People had not taken kindly to his actions, but they could not go against an order from the Chief of Covens. Richard despised his father, but he was not above using his status. Last resort only.
“Let me go. Now.”
“No.” Richard walked them through the door, ignoring the sexy man’s protest. Least he did not make a huge show. Would not have set well with the shelter operators.
“I don’t have time for this.” Edward’s other hand came to rest over his. Next thing Richard knew a huge sting swarmed his arm.
“Shit.” He released Edward and shook his arm. “What did you do?”
“Got myself free.” Edward stuck his head in the air and spun around, making his way to the side of the shelter.
“Where are you going?”
“Away from you.”
Great. A stubborn partner. Just what Richard needed. His life was spinning out of control as it was. He did not need the man who belonged to him to be so . . . Sexy. Stubborn. Strong willed. Determined. All the things that would fit well with him. Any other time.
“Will you at least talk to me?” Richard rounded the corner, stopping dead in his tracks.

Chapter 6
Electricity jumped back and forth, drawing a deep breath from Edward. There was only one thing that could caused such a reaction, but it wasn’t possible. Just wasn’t. It wasn’t heard of. Not below the Virginia Line. Nope. It was a northern and western Coven aspect. It was the one reason it had sucked that his new job had been in western part of North Carolina. It’s also why his dad gave him an hour-long lecture about him being an immature young man who was sowing his wild oats in the wrong part of the world. Dad had not gotten that there were no wild oats being sowed. His eldest son was simply moving on with his life after Alex decided it was time for him to move to the next phase of his life and that did not include a man. He was not going to disappoint his family by being his true self. Alex decided to prove his devotion to his family by going through the Choosing Ceremony. Edward had tried for half a year to let the deception pass him, but it never did. All that happened when he ran across Alex and his new wife was pure rage. That was why he’d found a new job and left the area he’d always lived in. His dad might not have been around to aid him growing up, but he always made sure his children and his wife had all they needed, even if he had very little time to do with them. Besides to knock my mom up.
Edward did not need to see the smile on the hunk’s face to know that he knew what was happening between them. Nope. He could feel his excitement and pleasure at the idea of having ran across him. There were also confusion, not so much because of him being paired with a man, but because he had not picked up on him being a . . . Crap.
“You are . . . How did I not . . .”
Man alive. Someone needed to slam a stake upside his head. He should have gone to the Coven to start with. If he’d not been trying to keep a low profile and away from the Coven as much as possible then things would have been different. He would have been introduced to every member. Would have known the man upon sight. One thing left for me to do.
He went to sidestep the man and make his escape, but fingers curled in his shirt, holding him in place. The SpellBinder in front of him was strong. Tall. Handsome. Clean cut blond hair. A slender jawline that had Edward wanting to place small kisses over them.
None of those thoughts mattered. He had to get away from the guy. Time to figure out his plan. What he would do next. There was no way he could . . .
“We have lots to discuss.” The hunk said as he took his arm and stirred him towards the doorway of the shelter that had been setup for the people of his apartment complex.
“We do not.” Edward tried to pull his arm free, but it did no good. The man had a major grip on his arm and was not going to release him. That sent shards of heat over his body, but also had his stomach churning.
“We do. Come on, let’s get out of here.”
“No.” Edward dug his heels into the cement floor. “Release me. Now.”
The hunk froze, but did not release him.

Chapter 5
The words up and out of his mouth before he knew what was taking place. His Coven leader would kick him in the shin. He’d have good reason. It was not sound reason to invite a human to stay with him. He had a secret to keep. Big one. One that did not just affect him. If Edward found out what he was then . . .
“Thanks, but . . . I could not impose on you. My friend will put me up.”
Richard wasn’t sure if he was pleased or upset. His cock knew which one he was, but . . . a man could not think with his dick. Too many did, but not something he usually did.
“I’ll just wait around and ensure you have a place to go.”
What was up with him? Was he desperately trying to get the man to come home with him? Why? It did not matter. He’d put the question out there and was ensuring that the man took him up on the offer. If it was needed. It was needed. Richard needed him in his home. He wasn’t sure why.
“Not necessary, but thanks.”
Richards arm blocked the young man’s path when he stood. Soon as there was contact a bolt of electricity arced between them. Fire zoomed up and down his body, jumping back and forth between them. My blood froze, but it soon soared to the temperature of the fire he’d been pulling people from earlier.
“Shit.”
Couldn’t say anything to his response. My mouth was stuck to the roof of my mouth as my body burned. It wasn’t a normal reaction, nor was the electric current. Richard knew what both sensations meant. One cleared up quite a few things. The other . . . clear to him as well, but he wasn’t sure why. Or what to do about it. Or how to undo what happened. Or if he could. Knowing his luck . . . He was stuck.
“You are . . . How did I not . . .”
Richard’s fingers curled in Edward’s shut covered shirt as he went to step back. There was no way he was letting the man run. He might not understand completely what was going on, but he knew the man was not getting away from him. Not know. Not ever.

Chapter 4
Edward hung the phone up sighing. He did not need what had been landed at his feet. Nope. He had moved to the small town to do one thing. Live a peaceful life without much interference from the local Coven. Not come up against a tyrant who would not allow him to reside inside the Coven lands without going through the Choosing Ceremony. Damn thing had been a thorn in his life since he turned eighteen. Least then he’d had his dad’s pull to get him out of the barbaric ritual. Not the case anymore. Dad had stepped down as the Chief of Area 6, the largest Area of the 10 that stretched across the world. The seat was his for the taking at any time, but Edward did not want the massive responsibility. He’d grown up with an absentee dad. Not that he had children, or every would. Nope. That’s was the issue. His dad had spent ninety percent of his time dealing with minor to major issues regarding one or another coven. There was never a break for him. Not a life Edward wanted. Not even to get himself out of the dreaded Choosing Ceremony. He’d simply pull out the letter his dad gave him some five years ago and pray it still held some power. If not . . . he’d face that when it came up. First and most important issue at hand was finding him a place to stay. He’d called the Coven house to see if he could crash there, but since he was new and had not gone through the Choosing Ceremony he was not eligible to stay there. Apparently, single men among the single women was a major issue for the Coven. Didn’t’ bode well with him. Meant there were problems among the Coven. Something else Edward did not need.
“Sir,” the deep voice from earlier flowed through him, making his entire body shiver with . . . Oh Lord. His cock had not gotten so hard before in his life. What was going on? “How are you feeling?”
All Edward could managed was grunt.
“He’s doing fine, Sonny Boy.” Mr. Winchester answered for him. “Been watching over him myself. No sign of head injury or any confusion. Bad phone call, I’d say.”
Dang-gum. How much had Mr. Winchester picked up on? Edward had ensured, or thought he had, that he was alone. Where had the old guy been hiding?
“That’s good, but I’d feel better if you went and let the doctor check you out.”
What was wrong with the handsome guy? Why was he pushing a doctor? Not like I needed one. Anything that had happened to me would be long gone. Fast healing was great, most of the time. Looked like it was going to bite him in the ass.
“Then at least let me give you a better check over.”
“I’m fine, but . . . Thanks.” Edward stood, hoping his raging cock was not presentable. Sure wasn’t the time, or place, to have a hard-on.
“Okay.” The hunk said. “Have you found a place to stay?”
“Not yet. Getting ready to call a friend of mine.” Did not need the guy to know that there was no where for him to go. He could not even afford a cheap motel. Not that he would go to one. Then again . . . he might have.
“If it doesn’t’ . . . I have an extra bedroom if you need a place to crash until you can find you a new place.”

Richard grunted as he lifted his led feeling body from Jason. “You okay?”
“Squashed.” Jason huffed then jumped from the gurney and rushed to his side. “You aren’t, though.”
“What are . . .” Jason patted his back a couple of times then spun him around. “Stop that.” Richard slapped at Jason’s hand as it came down towards his chest. “What’s up with you?”
“You were on fire.”
What! Hadn’t felt any heat. Other than what blazed around him.
“Get that jacket off.”
“Check the guy out. I’m fine.” Long as my coat was not flaming.
“Always work first.” Jason snorted and began doing a preliminary check of the guy they’d brought from the fireline.
As the two of them worked to get the guy ready for transport, all Richard could think of was the beauty that he’d allow to leave on his own instead of going to the hospital. He should have forced the man to go. The building had literally fallen down around him. Not shocking. The fire was right next to his apartment. There was no telling what kind of internal damage the man had sustained. He should have forced the issue about him going to the hospital and getting check out. Least everyone was being transported to the same shelter. Made it easier to track him down after the scene was clear.
“We’re ready to go.” Jason said from the front of the ambulance. “hang on.”
Words Richard despised. Jason was a great guy, bit young, but he did not know how to drive the ambulance without tossing him around. Richard had just enough time to grab onto the gurney to keep it still as the ambulance pulled out behind another one. Lights were flashing and sirens blaring as they raced down the road towards the hospital. Not like it was going to matter much. The guy they had in their bus was not going to make it. He had over ninety percent body burns. Third-degree. Least Richard could hope for was that the man’s family had time to come in and say goodbye.

Chapter 2
“What took you so long, Richard?”
He watched as the older man assisted the sexy, blond haired, way to skinny man towards the waiting crowd.
“You know him?”
“No.”
“You look like you just let your best friend walk into the blaze down the street.”
“You two quit chit-chatting.” Captain Alex patted the side of the ambulance. “Get a move on.”
“Yes, Sir.” Jason fired up the ambulance and threw the huge machine into drive. “Damn smoke is killing my nose.”
“Know it.” He took one more look in the rearview mirror, hunting the beauty he’d hated to leave behind. What was up with that feeling of dread? Not dread. Longing. Not only that, but a need to protect. Guard. Oversee. Ensure his safety. And no matter what the young man said, he was not okay.
“You sure you don’t know him?” Jason glanced his way as they came to a stop behind the line of ambulances. “Looks like they called us all in.”
Jason was dim-witted most of the time, but that sounded worse than anything the man had ever said.
Richard climbed out of the ambulance and took in the scene. There were EMS guys all over the place and transporter bed rushing as close as they could get to the fire, taking extracted men, women, teens, and children from firefighters. The sight kicked him into gear. He was around the back of the ambulance, extracting his bed before Jason was able to take in the scene.
He was halfway to the stay behind line before Jason caught up to him with the huge EMS bag.
“We are getting them away from the fire before we begin our examination.” Travis shouted.
Man was great at his job. He’d been his partner before Jason was hired on. Hated being stuck with a rookie, but least Jason knew his secret and he did not have to force himself to hide his extra strength and sense of smell. Both came in handy. Normally. Scent wasn’t going to aid him for several days thanks to the smoke he was inhaling.
“Let’s rock and roll.” Jason said, earning himself a couple of sour expression from the other EMS workers.
“Calm it down.” Richard snapped at Jason. “This isn’t a scene to be chipper at. Get serious.”
“Right.” Jason muttered, but took on a straight lipped expression and began strapping in the first man the firefighter laid on their bed.
If Jason felt anything for the man or not, Richard didn’t care. What he cared about was him doing his job and without cracking jokes. Quicker he could get the people treated and transported the better. He wanted all the victims taken care of as fast as they needed it. There would be many deaths from the fire. Hell, the man in front of him was barely hanging on. His arm was missing and the rest of his body was covered in what had to be third degree burns. For once, Richard was thankful he could not smell. Burnt flesh stunk worse than smoke.
“Code 10.” A firefighter shouted. A few of my colleague froze, but Richard knew what that meant, and he motioned for Jason to get hold of the underside of the gurney as the same firefighter shouted. “Get them away from here.” A firefighter shouted.
We’d made it to the ambulance just as another explosion rocked the raging inferno.
Jason shielded the man from flying debris as Richard threw himself over Jason. No way was he going to let the barely twenty-year-old get harmed. His Coven Master would slice him in half.

Chapter 1
The walls shook, plaster trickled down as water sprayed from the bathroom as the upper level fell in. He dove for the doorway, crouching in on himself, praying to survive the earth quake. His mind raced over how and why there was an earth quake in his small town. Last major weather in Cotton was some seventy years ago, according to town history. The town had been snowed in for an entire three weeks thanks to the five feet of snow. Several lives had been lost during that. Would hate to see how many was taken from the unexpected shaking and rattling of homes and apartments.
Shouts filled the air as a huge boom richochet through me, putting shivers and ripples through my entire body. That hadn’t been a normal sound. Not that anything was normal when the world shook.
Wasn’t sure how long passed before calmness reclaimed his mind, body, soul, and apartment. With ease he stood, knocking aside some plaster dust from his shirt. He took a cautions look around and found that the entire upstairs rested in his living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Was sure the bedroom had faired no better. One good thing about it, the man who lived there was not home during the day. For once luck had come calling. Or had it? Had the abnormally hit the entire town? If so . . . him working from home had been a blessing. Those poor people at the office was on the twelfth floor. Not a place I would have wanted to be during such a horrific earth quake.
“Edward, Edward, you okay?”
Was he? Few small scrapes, but nothing bigger than what looked like a cat scratch and a couple of bruises. He’d avoided getting hit by any falling building. The doorway had not crumbled on top of him.
“Fine, Mr. Winchester.”
“Good. Good. Did you see that explosion?”
Why did he sound so chipper? The entire world had shaken and fallen down around us.
“It had to go at least fifteen stories into the air. It was awesome.”
Awesome? What in the world? Wait . . . did he say explosion? “Explosion?”
“Yeah, it’s what caused all this.”
“Not an earth quake?”
“Nope, son. Just some kind of explosion. Reckon it was a gas line explosion.”
Sirens could be heard, growing louder and louder as they came into sight.
“Can you get out safely?” A deep voice yelled from the roadway.
Edward braced his arm against a huge chunk of the ceiling, pushing down on it. It seemed sturdy enough, so he climbed up and carefully made his way out his missing front door. How did an explosion do so much damage to an apartment? It could not have been . . .
“Crap.”
Heat swamped him as he exited the rubble. He looked up and saw the reason behind the destruction.
“You okay, Sir?” Deep voice asked as he came up to my side, taking my arm, steading him.
“Fine.” He muttered. “What happened?”
“Was it a bomb?” Mr. Winchester asked the man wearing a dark blue pair of pants and a white shirt.
“Not sure, Sir.” He moved me to the edge of our brick wall next to the garden, which was covered with white dust particles that were floating down and sticking to everything. It was as if snow had come in the middle of Summer. “Let’s get you somewhere safe.”
“Here is fine.”
“No, it’s not. The fire could spread quickly.”
Edward took a seat and took in the rest of the scene. Looked as if the only apartment that was affected by the blast had been his. Course, he lived on the end of the building and nothing sat between him and the huge blaze consuming the Earth. The two half-built buildings sitting beside the apartment were burned to char. The god-awful scent struck him hard, but it did not kick his mind into a sensible gear. All he could think about was where he would live and how he would replace all his belongings. He’d only been in town for five months and had not even found the gentleman he had to report into. Man seemed to be evasive. Looked like that would be put on the back burning until . . . How long would it take for him to get back on his feet? Seemed like a stupid question when he knew there were people at the construction site, who could be dead or injured and he was being fussed over because of a few scratches.
“This apartment is being evacuated for everyone’s safety.” The deep voiced man said.
Only at his words did I realize that the rest of my neighbors where filing out of their homes and moving to their vehicles.
“I’ll drive . . .” Where would he go? He had no family in the area.
“Edward,” Mr. Winchester came to my side and patted my shoulder. “Your car is . . .”
One look explained the trialed off sentence. The front of his apartment rested across the top of his car. “Dang it.”
“Richard, get him to the ambulance.”
Ambulance? Crap. That explained the white shirt and dress like pants.
“Come on, Sir. Let me help you to the ambulance and check you out before we leave for the hospital.”
“Don’t need a hospital.”
“You are in shock.”
He might be, but he was not going to go to the hospital. He had no insurance and did not need the bill when he had to figure out how to find a new place to live. Far as he knew, there were no vacant apartments at his complex.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Richard, get a move on.”
“He’s refusing aid.”
“Then get your ass in gear. There are people down the road hurt.”
“You sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?”
“Go help the ones worse than me.”
“Okay. The van over there will take you to the shelter where arrangements are being made for those displaced.” Displaced? What a word to describe his situation. “Least go there and sign in. I’ll come by and check on you later.”
“Not necessary.” Edward shoved to his feet and sighed, taking one more look around.
“Sir,” Richard held his hand out to Mr. Winchester, “can you make sure he gets on the van?”
“I’ll take him there myself, Sonny Boy.”

Happy 2020

Happy New Year!

Hope all of yours started off on a great foot. I created this hardcore plan for 2020 and this blog is only the first part of it. This year I will be posting twice a week. (This week will only be once, because my posting days are going to be Mon. and Wed.)  I will do a variety of free write stories and some information about upcoming book releases and my progress along the way.

At this moment I’m at a loss of what to do for the first post. I’d hoped to start off with a great story for you guys, but . . . My mind is sort of flying all over the place and can’t focus on something knew when my mind is flying between three different stories at once. Maybe my pre-laid out plan did not hold as much detail as I thought. Still, I’m not giving it up. I’m going to figure out what to start the New Year Post off with.

Give me a few minutes and I’ll come up with something.

Ah . . . Got it.

Going to give you guys a sneak peak into one of the newest stories I’m working on. It does not have a title yet and is by no way set in stone, so please take it for the raw material it is. I hope you enjoy the sneak peek.

Chapter 1
He still didn’t know why he was here. Little he could do about it. His parents needed the time to straighten out whatever had been making them argue from sunup to sundown. Not having the Senior Year Summer I’d planned was a huge price to pay, but it would be worth it. He’d make the best of the situation. Not like it bothered him to go to a place he’d never been before. Traveling could be fun. Would have been nicer to stay at home with his best friends, but . . .
His eyes landed on a white sign, baring his name, being held in front of a massive, muscle filled chest. He walked over to the tall, military issued brown haired man and nodded at him. “I’m Samuel.”
“Id, please.”
“What?”
“Id please.”
Those bright green eyes held no sparkle or light to them. They were fixed on him. And not in a good way. The stone-cold expression marring the man’s face screamed his seriousness. Meant doing as the man asked. Least doing so would get him out of the cramped airport terminal. He reached into his back pocket and extracted his wallet.
The man lowered the sign and reached to take his wallet. Samuel kept his hold on it, but flipped the end over, showing the man his driver’s license.
“Thank you, Mr. Ringer.”
“Samuel, please.” He shut his wallet and stuffed it back into his back pocket. “Can we get out of here?”
“Yes, Sir.”
The man spun on his heels and began clipping it through the massive crowd of people standing, and the ones walking. It was like the man was on a race tracking shooting around the other as if he was going for the gold. Samuel expected the man to slow down once they exited the airport, but nope. The guy picked up his pace as they headed across the loading zone into the parking area. Took everything Samuel had to keep up with the man. He was huffing and puffing as they came to a stop next to a beat up Explore.
“You okay, Sir?”
“Names’ Samuel.” He rested his hand against the passenger door. “I’m too young to be a Sir.” The car’s lock clicked as the guy unlocked the driver’s side.
“Let’s go. Samuel.”
Samuel breathing was slowing down, but it still felt like someone was stomping on his chest.
“You okay, Samuel?”
“Give me a minute.”
“Do you not workout daily?”
Work out? Why would anyone do that if they did not need to. Samuel wasn’t fat, or skinny. He was the perfect weight for his six-foot two body. He ate healthy. His mom made sure that he had his veggies and power shakes. He ate junk food, but very little. In-fact, his mom kept a box of snack packs of chips in the cabinet at all times. She swore it was the best way to calm him and his best friends. Not that any of them ate more than one pack a night. Most of his time with his friends were spent in front of the Playstation, or in the garage working on Kevin’s crotch-rocket. The three of them had been working on it for the last year and half. Their plan had been to finish it this summer, so that when he left for college he had a ride of his own. Kevin had spent all last summer vacation working as a delivery guy so that he could buy the piece of junk bike. Kevin had goaded him and Tommy into helping him fix it up. There was little left to do. Sucked he wouldn’t be there to complete it, but Samuel made Kevin and Tommy promise to finish up while he visited his mom’s homeland.
“Samuel?”
Samuel shook his head and climbed into the car. “I’m ready.”
“You need to be in better shape.”
No he didn’t. Not everyone longed to be some  buffed up hunk of a man. “What is your name?” Samuel shut the door and pulled the buckle around him.
“Donald.” The guy tossed his arm over Samuel’s shoulder as he put the car in reverse and check behind him. The tips of Donal’s fingers rested against the back of his neck. What shocked Samuel was how those rough fingers moved back and forth. Lite electric currents raced down Samuel’s back down to his ass, where his hole clinched. He wasn’t sure why his body reacted to the man’s touch, but he was sure Donald had felt something, because the man’s eyes paused on him and in those bright green eyes was a brief shine. A faint smile formed on Donald’s light chocolate colored chubby face. Before Samuel could return the lite flirting a string string of soft curse words flowed from under his breath.
“What is it?”
“They let anyone walk around in public.”
Samuel glanced behind him in time to see two men cross the lot. He didn’t see anything wrong with the couple. They were simply walking hand in hand with each other as they made their way to their vehicle.
“People like them don’t deserve to live.”
Wow! What in the world? Donald had just been flirting with him. Had he misread the signs? Nope. There’d been a glint in his green eyes. A faint smile had graced that stone-cold face. There’d been a spark of . . . Looked as if he was wrong. That or Donald was a . . . That had to be it. Donald had to be a closeted gay man. Or . . . He might not have accepted who he truly was. Many gay men despised themselves for acting on an attract to another man. Didn’t matter. Samuel knew when to leave things alone. Donald was one of those things. He had no time for a closest man, or a bigot. Not that it mattered much. He wasn’t in the market for a summer fling. Nope. He was in Alaska, heading for one of the US National Park. He was there to take a tour of Kenja Ford Park. Learn more about his mom’s homeland. Meet some of her friends. Not to find someone to hook up with. Nope. He was there to allow his parents time to themselves. His trip was two months long, then he would be back in Califorina living his last year of high school.
“Don’t you think so?”
Samuel lifted his backpack from the floorboard and pulled out his phone.
“You won’t get a signal here.”
“What?”
“You have to be higher up to get a signal.”
“How am I supposed to let mom know I have arrived?”
“Mr. Southern will contact your mom.”
What about his friends? He promised them he would text them soon as he arrived. The trip was a little over four hours long. That was about the longest him and his bestfriends went without talking to one another. He’d promised to call them at least three times a day while he was gone. Trip was not starting off on a great foot. First he was picked up by a bigot. One that had flirted with him. Then the bigot dropped a bomb on him. One that his mother should have informed him of. She knew of his promise to his friends. She knew how close he was with Kevin and Tommy. What had she been thinking? Why couldn’t she have let him spend the summer with Kevin’s parents. Her and his dad would have had the house to themselves, giving them more than enough time to sort out their issues. Why did she have to send him all the way to Alaska? Why had he never known his mom was from there? If she stayed away from the area for the last eighteen years why send him to see it now. Why not come with him? His mom’s logic made no sense.
“Dang gum it.” Samuel dropped the phone into his lap.
“Told you.”
“How far are we going?”
“An hour from here.”
Great. Stuck in a car in a strange place with a muscled up, hot looking bigot. He banged his head against the headrest. “Do you have any music in here?”
“Radio’s broke.”
Course it was.
“Rest. I’m sure the flight was long.” Donald patted his leg. “We will be there before you know it.”
Took every ounce of patients that Samuel had to keep from jerking his leg away from Donald. The man was sending mix messages. Why was people like that? Was the area that much against gays? He doubted it. If so then those two men wouldn’t have been displaying their affection for one another. Nope. Then again, Donald was not from the city. He was an hour away. Area might be totally different. Then again . . . His mom should have warned him. She knew he was bi. He’d never hidden that from her, or his dad. They knew he believed that everyone had the right to be attracted, and love, whoever they wish. How could he not be that  way? It’s what they taught him. His mom had always drove the point home to him that no two people are a like and that required an open mind about all topics, right down to the little picky items people drowned themselves on.
“I have some coco in the thermos in the back seat. Help yourself.”
“I’m fine, but thanks.” He let his eyes drift down and focused on his breathing. He needed some down time. Needed to get his head around what lay ahead of him. If that was even possible.
