Jessica slipped under the water, letting it rush over
her head, soaking in the gliorous sun heated miracle required to keep her ability
to shift between human and her mermaid side. Sucked at times, but she would not
give up her sea for the best fuck in the world. Then again . . . she had. Sort of.
Her and Mitchel only made it to the ocean three or four times a year. Her father
and mother cursed her decision to move inland after she found her chosen one
among the humans. But she’d had no choice. Not if she wanted to keep her man.
Mitchel’s job required him to live in the Big Apple and he got little time off.
Since Mermaids couldn’t get licences there was noway for her to drive herself
to the ocean.
She missed her family, but loved her mate. She knew her
mom and dad missed her, but they understood. Her mom had been the only Princess
that found her mate among the mermen. The other six had moved to the town next
to ocean. They had access to the water twenty-four seven if they desired so.
She only got three weeks a year, and even then, part of those three weeks were
spent doing the tourist thing with Mitchel. She did not resent it one bit. It hurt
her chest to think of all the time she was missing with her family, but life
was life and she would not change it for anything.
“Hey, Jessica.” Her mom threw her long mane over her
shoulder. “When did you arrive?”
“Like you don’t know.” Jessica and Mitchel ran across
her aunt right after checking into their hotel. Just her luck that Aunt Raqueal
had a telepathic link with her sisters.
“We get to see you so little. We miss you.”
“I know mom, but - -“
“You could live here and let him work inland.”
“Mom.” It was an argument they had every time she was in
town.
“What? A mother worries. You would know if your mate - -“
“Do not go there.” Another argument they had each time. Her
mom wanted grandchildren and may no qualms about letting Jessica know that she felt
her mate was being selfish in not taking time to make them. Not the truth, but
her mother would never understand her reasoning behind waiting to bring
children into the world. Mitchel and her had discussed it over and over and neither
of them wanted to bring children into their family dynamics until he made
partner. That way he could have more time for family life.
“Fine.” Her mom threw her hands up. “You going to come
for supper tonight?”
“Not tonight.” Jessica dipped her head under the water
and waved towards the shore, where Mitchel stood beside Aunt Raquel. “Got plans
with your sister.” She hugged her mom and dove under the water, heading back to
the shore.
