Fact of the Day

Did you know . . .

Therianthropy is a mythical ability of someone shifting into other animals. Drawings found at Les Trois Freres, in France show ancient beliefs in the idea. Of course, we all know the most common example of one. Especially, if you follow my books.

Did you know . . .

The term Therianthropy came from the Greek therion, meaning “wild animal” and Anthropos means human being.

Mythical Creature Day – Huldra

Huldra is associate with Scandinavian, Norwegian, Swedish, Sami (Lapplanders) and German folklore. Huldran is a wood nymph and described to look like a beautiful woman with long hair, but she has a cow’s tail and a hollowed out back. Some of the myths speaks of her luring men into the woods and keeping them until they agree to marry her. Some of the folklores state that once married in a church in God’s name she gains the strength of ten. The mere description of her peeked my curiosity and I found myself spending almost an hour flipping through images of Huldras. I finally narrowed it down to one to share with you.

Witchcraft Day - Runes

Runes. What do you think of when you hear this? Do you think magic? Think stones? I always thought of stones. Once again, I wasn’t up to date on the terminology. Runes can be stones, but they are more than that. They are also a letter of the ancient Germanic Alphabet.  None of those are what drew me to the term. I heard someone, not sure where (most likely on television), mention they have special magical powers. It intrigued me into reaching into the little bit of me that likes to research for knew knowledge. With a little digging I found out a bunch of interesting facts. After looking at many, many sites I found this one the most intriguing. http://www.psychicsuniverse.com/articles/spirituality/psychic-abilities/what-are-runes-their-history

Here is what I learned.

Runes are tools used for divination. They open a psychic awareness. There are 24 tiles (stones) containing carving of characters. (This is where the alphabet came into play. Not only that, but before the stones were used for divination they were used to communicate.) Runes can be used to gain messages and spiritual insight. A lesser known aspect is using them as an alternative method for conversing with your Higher Self and the Universe.

There are loads more of information on the website and to find that I looked through many other sites. I hope your interest were peeked enough you might do a bit of exploring on your own.

Inspirational Thought

I believe we each strive to accomplish many things among our life time, but what kind of mindset does it take to achieve these desires of ours. Many things. But in my opinion, the biggest is to have a thought that inspires you. Drives you to push forward through the obstacles that life is bound to give you. These thoughts don’t have to be some big and popular saying, simply something that motivates you.

One of Mine is: Anything is Possible.

So what is yours. I’d love to hear some of them. Post them if you’d like.

Fact of the Day

Did you know that Spiders can be considered Mythical Creatures?

There are some eight legged giants living deep within the Earth. These spiders, the youngest, weave webs of imprisonment around artifacts of man. These can be easily broken, but can install powerful images of ages past.

Find more about these interesting (yet disgusting to me) creatures here:

Chaos Magic

NOTE
None of the fact listed in here pertains to my personal beliefs. They are simply facts I found during research. I have listed the source at the bottom of the post.

Chaos Magic was a movement born in the last quarter of the twentieth century, sometimes spelled Xaos Magic. Chaos Magic owes its origins to a work of science fiction, the Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson. A trilogy with a dizzying mixture of satire, put-on, pop culture, and occultism. This trilogy attacks all conceivable belief systems, presented a theory of magic that centered on sex and drew heavily on the wirings of the previously obscure Discordian movement, who worshiped the goddess of chaos.
Throughout time there have been many publications in the Chaos Magic field. Each seemed to combine others types of magic and became foundations for different Chaos Magic organization.
This short bit of information is only a short bit of what I found during my research. I hope you find it interesting enough to dig further into the concept of Chaos Magic. If so, I truly suggest you check out my main resource:
The New Encyclopedia of the Occult
By John Michael Greer
(this bit of information came from page 97)

There are many more sources of information about this topic. Some may follow this path, others may not. I’ve listed a few sources I looked into, but didn’t use during my research.

Demons

People all over the world have their opinion on what Demons are. Concept of Demons goes back from the start of the world. Each era, each section of the world, each religion has their own perceptions of what Demons are and are capable of doing.

So, what can and can’t they do. Is it a guess? I would say so if you are looking for physical proof. Then again . . .

As a writer, I create creatures and build their skills into what my mind sees them as. This is the fun part for me. I can take a demon like Abigar a demon who can foretell the future and give military advice. (This information came from: http://www.demonicpedia.com/demon-quick-list/) and turn him into a militant that breaths fire, giving a fortune with each blaze he releases. From there it is all up to my mind to find out what my new demon form can do. I could make this demon a good one or a bad one.

Good one you say. Yes. A paranormal/supernatural book can have the opposite of what most people view. So, instead of a demon forming military advice to assist himself, he gives fortunes that helps the good guys.

(Ah, the joys of writing.)

Today’s Fact is about Werewolves. Did you know . . .

Ancient Greek mythology tells of Lycaon, a man transformed into a wolf after eating human flesh

I knew there was a Ancient Greek myth about Lycaon, but I never knew it involved eating of human flesh. That’s an aspect I’ve never heard of before. (Shocking. We truly can learn new things each day.)

Book Cover Thoughts

I'm unusual as a reader. Book covers don't draw me to a book. I will admit if it is a bright and attractive book it might catch my eye and I go to check out the content, but it does not have one ounce of reason as to why I chose a book.

I'l like to propose two question to you guys today. What draws you to buy a book? Cover? Blurb? First page? Or what.

As a Paranormal reader do you enjoy seeing the type of animal or ghost that the story is about on the cover?

Let me know.

Book Review – Alpha and Omega

This is an older book, but one that I truly love. Patricia Briggs is an amazing writer. Anyone who has ever read one of her books knows this. It is hard for me to choose which book of hers I like best, but if I had to say which character caught my attention the most it would be Anna from Alpha and Omega, a short story included in the On The Prowl book.

Anna suffered greatly, but she survived and it made her a stronger person. Her Alpha, in this book, might have tried to beat her into submission, but she never caved to him. She took his and the other wolves abuse. When she had seen enough of his monstrous way towards others, she reached out for help from the someone she never met, Low and behold it turned into the best choice she ever made.
Anna’s strength and courage is what created my desire to read the book multiple times and read the rest of the books in the Alpha and Omega Series. The world created by Patricia Briggs enhanced the attraction to the characters. Patricia Briggs is a master at keeping your attention and allowing your mind to see every scene unfold in your head.

If you have nor read this book I recommend it to anyone who loves to lose themselves in a wonderful story.

Warlord vs. Witches

(Is there a difference)

Is there a difference between Witches and Warlords?

Good question. Most of the stories I read have them as two different type of people. I’m not sure how my mind would interrupt this if I was creating a story. Right off hand, I’d have to say the only difference I can think of is that one is male and one is female. Generally, I do not separate a species by sex, but as a writer I go where the story leads.

From a reader’s point I have to say the books I read with both tend to be a bit more sex separated than I like, but they were well written and entertaining so I read them. Guess when it comes right down to it, this questions is more of a personal choice. Still, I’d love to hear what you guys think.

Story Concept. Keep or Ditch

Today I wanted some advice from you guys. I have a story concept that I’d like to run across you and see what you think about it. Be honest and tell me to keep or ditch it.

Story Concept:

There are seven demons, who are the son of the Devil. Each son is assigned a realm of hell, which has a prelaid out plan of life. The Devil expects his sons to continue the long time way of life in each realm, but the devil felled to take in the possibility of his sons falling in love with a human. His son’s decision to peruse these women pisses the Devil off, more than he always is, and he swears to eliminate the women his sons have chosen.

Do I Keep or Ditch?
