Chapter 10

Javis took in a deep breath and blew it out, cursing Andy Candyman for keeping him waiting. Just like a journalist. Always on their time. He’d hoped that Mateo had wrangled Enapay before his interview, but that had not happened. Oh, he’d discovered his location and managed to trail him to and from his new location, but according to Mateo he was gathering some more information before he brought him in. Wasn’t sure what he was onto, but Javis left that up to him.

“Sorry, sorry, Commander and Chief. Got stuck in traffic.” Bet he did. “Nice place.”

Andy Candyman span the room, taking in each section of the conference room of the biggest hotel room in his small hometown. Same one he used for each and every meeting he hosted. Never did he bring anyone to his home. He had a standing arrangement with Randal Stoneman and the Stoneman Hotel, lucrative one for him in more ways than one. he not only made a shit load of money from the government for them using his hotel at the whim of the Commander and Chief, but he got notoriety off the fact that the Commander and Chief having graced his hotel on multiple times.

Andy sat his small recorder on the table between the two of us. “Think the best thing for us to start with is . . . Why have you waited so long to respond to Mr. Chavos’ comments?”

“There is no sense in responding to half untruths.”

Javis could truly say that what Enapay said was untruths. His numbers weren’t correct. Not off by much, but gave Javis the leeway to call them false, which was what he needed for his interview.

“Then why not come out and say so before now?”

“Why give his words more validity?”

“You do not believe ignoring him did not do so?”

“No more than a lack of response.” Javis held his hand up to stave off his next question. “If you had been me, what would have done? Pay falsehood attention and become involved in a debate among the press as to who was right or wrong, or remained silent until there was a solid reason to come forward. And your recent interview with him provided such.”

“How is that?”

“Because he stated that my way stole the process of Birth, Growth, Death. I ask in return, how does it do that? Are there not children, multitudes of children, born each day? Are there not multitude of children growing into adulthood each day? Are there not adults growing into ripe old age humans each day? Are those same ripe old age adults not taking their last breath each day?”

“Mr. Chavos implies that you are taking their last breath and turning them into a Vampire. Is that not the case?”

Implies? Perfect way to put what Enapay has stated. He never outright spoken about their last breath being taken. That would be murder and he never called him that.

“Then I tell him to reacquaint himself with the process that is required at the end of ones life.”

“And what is that, Commander and Chief?”

“Vampire blood is given to the dying before they take their last breath. They take their last breath and within six hours of that they wake a Vampire. There is no taking of a life. No murder. No stealing of a life. No stealing of a growth of a life. No stopping people from having a child. People still have the right to choose if they wish to have children, or abort a child if they wish to. They are grown until the day they are supposed to die, even if that is at a young age of three, which I despise to see in anyone, but it does occure more than I like to see. But it is part of the life cycle as Mr. Chavos calls it.”

“What do you say to him saying you lied to us from the get-go?”

“Some may view my actions that way, but I believe those that do are those who did not vote for me. That being the case . . . I would not be in the Commander and Chief seat if the people did not wish it.”

There were several more questions that really did not attend to the Enapay situation, which shocked Javis, but he was glad that it did not seem to consume the media after all.
