Chapter 12

“Bobby, son look at me.” Simon knelt in front of Bobby, taking hold of his son’s face, forcing him to lock eyes with him. “You did great. You kept your cool. Find you a place to stay until you can buy you a better place.”

His eyes held the yellowish wolf tint to them, but it faded after Bobby took a couple more deep breaths. He sighed once then said, “I’ll go to a motel for the night.”

“Why not Tommy’s.”

“Alpha, I am trying to take it slow for him. He’s still young and I want to give him everything I would have wanted.”

“You know I have to call him.”

“I know, Alpha.”

Hated hearing him call me Alpha when he was my son and needed comfort from his father. I’d given it to him when I first came in, but all my guards had gone straight to take care of James. If any of them had stayed behind, I would have had to remain in Alpha mode. It sucked having to be Alpha when he needed and longed to be father. It always had, but he’d managed it. And Bobby understood the reason behind it, even if neither of them liked it.

Simon put the call on speaker soon as Tommy answered the phone. “Tommy, sorry to bother you so late.”

“It’s fine, Alpha. How can I help you?”

“I have you on speaker with Bobby.”

“What is wrong?”

“Calm down, baby. I’m fine.”

“Alpha?”

“He is. He had a visitor when he arrived home.”

Simon did not have to hear his son’s plea not to tell Tommy what state his visitor had been in. His eyes spoke the request loud and clear. They all but held a look Thomas would have given. Simon would have said he inherited the look from his father, if the two were blood related, but they weren’t. Still, there were times that Bobby gave looks that were so much like Thomas it was unreal. But if Thomas had came to find out someone had been naked in his bed, they’d been hell to pay. Tommy was a mild manner type of man, but Simon was sure such a fact would push him beyond his limit.

“Cal?”

“I’m fine, Stay. I promise.”

“No harm came to anyone.” Simon put the force of his alpha powers behind his statement to help ease Tommy and his wolf. “I’ve ordered him to go somewhere else for the night.”

“Honey, please come stay here.”

“I’m going to a motel for the night.”

“I want you to come here.”

“Baby, I want us to take it slow.”

Simon knew who would win soon as the back and forth began, but he let his son work his own relationship out. Him and Thomas had to go through their own little push and pulls, so would Bobby and Tommy. It was the entire point of stages of the relationship book.

“I know and I’m grateful. I have a whole backside that does not get used. Used it until you find a new place. Or . . . Two adults can sleep in the same bed without anything happening.”

Simon bit back a snort at that. It might happen for a night or two, but one or the other of them would end up breaking the word of that good hearted goal.

“Please, honey. Stay is going crazy.”

And Tommy stated the winning point.

“Tell Stay to calm down. Cal is all right and will see him soon. Bye, baby.”

“He can be persuasive.” Simon snorted when Bobby shot him a finger out of the line of sight of anyone. Two of the guards had returned with the third one coming in with James cuffed in front of him. “Take him to the jail for the night.” Once the guard had James outside, he motioned to the other guard that had driven over. “You will take Bobby over to Tommy Stake’s. Both of you go wait for us outside.” Once they were outside Simon pulled Bobby up and into a tight hug. “Now, my wolf will calm down. I done lost your dad. I can’t lose you. Not sure what game James is playing, but I do not like that it involves you.” He inhaled deeply and soaked in his son’s scent. “Go get the things you need and get to Tommy’s.”

Chapter 11

He’d been in the limo, staring at the darkened partition for half the drive home before he realized it. He shook the shock away and picked up the car phone, dialing Tommy. He picked up on the first ring, kind of hesitant when he spoke.

“It’s me, baby, I’m in Alpha Tate’s limo.”

“Don’t like when the Alpha calls.”

“Sorry, I spooked you.”

“It’s fine. Why are you in the limo?”

“On my way home.” How did you tell the man that you felt more for than you had anyone else that you had just become a millionaire. “What time do you work tomorrow?”

“Eight till two in the morning.”

“Want to go to the bank and bike shopping with me?” Could not think of anyone better to spend his day with.

“What time?”

Good question. What time would he have to be up to take care of getting a rental? Going around town required a transportation. Other than the bus. Especially if Tommy was going with him. Arranging for a rental to be at his place by nine meant he could be ready to pick Tommy up by ten. That sounded perfect. Not too early for him, since he had to work late.

“Then okay?”

“I’ll be ready.”

The car took the last turn before his driveway. “You locked in safe?”

“Yes, honey.”

“Good. Have sweet dreams.”

The limo pulled to a stop and the door opened. He climbed out and nodded to Alpha Tate’s driver. He loved his time when him and Simon was able to be family, but most of the time they fell into the roll of Alpha and pack member.

“Thanks.”

“Doing my job.” Calvin, Alpha Tate’s driver of twenty years, shut the door soon as he walked away from the car. “Have a good night, Sir.”

“You two.” Bobby tossed over his shoulder as he unlocked the door.

The sweetness or ripe tomatoes and fresh fire roasted corn flowed from the window Bobby left open in the kitchen. Only one person gave off such a scent that twisted his mind into a stat of turmoil. Not in a tormented manner, but one of chaos or fighting  against each other for something unclear to him. He’d been trying to figure it out since the first time they’d met, but it never became clear to him. It did keep him interested in the guy, and made their friendship feel even more important than any other he had. It was why he disliked his behavior since he met Tommy.

He pushed the door open soon as the limo backed out of the driveway, but James was not in the living room. James scent was strong. Meant he’d been there recently, or was still in the small trailer. The hum of the humidifier filled the hallway leading to the bedrooms and bathroom. The tiny laundry room that sat off to the side of the hallway held only my overrunning laundry. The bathroom door was shut, but one sniff told me that he had not been in there. Left the bedroom. The door was open and James’ scent wafted around him so strong it all but consumed him in a cocoon. Was sure he was in there, but there was no line of sight into the room until you rounded the small walkway into the room.

One step around the edge and and sight of the bed revealed a naked James spread wide legged across the bed, stroking hmiself.

“Hey there, Bobby. About time you came home.”

“James, listen get dressed and leave my trailer. I won’t inform Alpha Tate that you were here like this.”

“I’m not leaving till you give me one shot at us becoming an item.”

“James, we are,” or were, “friends. Go look in the relationship book. You will see mine and Tommy’s name. So . . . Like I said, get dressed and leave. I won’t tell the Alpha.” His fingers were flying across the keypad of his slider phone keypad, alerting the Alpha. “Fine lay there until the Alpha arrive. He can deal with you.”

“Bobby, everyone knows him and your dad were ates and he was the one that helped raised you. We all know you can live better than this.”

Bobby’s fist tightened as his toes curled and muscled tightened. Cal, his always ready to battle wolf, screamed for him to stand down. Remember Tommy and that Stay needed them. Bobby shook his head as he took in a couple of deep breaths before he walked out of his own bedroom, leaving behind the man who was supposed to be his friend. Once in the living room, he flopped onto the sofa, taking refuge in the squeak of the old springs. He’d just dropped his head back when Alpha Tate and three guard marched through the front door.

Chapter 10

“Alpha Tate, thanks for the ride.” Bobby wasn’t sure if they’d fallen into a more personal mode yet, or what, so he kept it professional until he got a cue from Alpha Tate.

“Bobby, son, I was left something for you when my mate got killed” There it was. Personal mode. “I was instructed only to give it to you when I felt you would use it in th correct way.”

“Dad left me something?” Water bubbled behind his eyelids. Always did when the subject was brought up. He’d been young when his dad was killed. So many years ago. Why had it taken Simon so long to decide to give something to him.

“You know ho proud your dad was of you, but he also knew how wild you would be for th first few years of freedom.”

Dad’s assumption had been right. The event that got James and him confined to pack lands had been the camels back so to speak. Not to mention meeting Tommy. Him and his wolf . . . Calm . . . Bobby just wished he could protect him better than he all ready is.

The limo pulled up to the back entrance of the Pack House. “Come on up to my office.” The huge solid steps that led to the third floor of the house loomed over them. Eerie, until he began climbing them. Then queasiness consumed him.

Once inside the office and around the normal atmosphere of the office thing inside Bobby’s body subsided.  Once he was seated in his favorite leather back chair in front of Simon’s desk, he was right at as rain. Okay, bit anxious to see what his Dad had left him.

“Here.” Simon held out an envelope. “This is the letter that goes with it.”

With care Bobby slipped his finger under the sealed edge and ran it across it, tearing the seal. He slipped the paper out, loving how his dad’s scent faintly lingered.

My dearest son,

I’m sorry if you are reading this instead of me giving it to you. Me and Simon set this up for you the day we adopted you and added to it each year. I know we raised you to live week to week, but we did that to teach you to make your own way through life. If Simon gave you this, then you have proven yourself ready to take care of it and be responsible with it.

Love Dad

“Here.” Simon held out a bank book.

Bobby took it and opened it, gasping at the total. “This is a lot, Simon.”

“It is.”

“You sure I’m ready for it?” He wasn’t.

“You are. I know it because your wolf had never been introduce to another wolf. Call your boss tonight and explain what happened. That you will not be in tomorrow nd get you a new ride. Then take your man out for a night to remember.”

Wow! Stunned speechless Bobby sat there staring at the balance on the bank book. He flipped the register book up and found the bank card with his name on it. Everything was up to date and ready for him to use. He could in deed go and get him a brand new bike. More than two if he wanted it, but he did not. There were many other things in the future this money would do for him. Him and Tommy. He could give Tommy the life he deserved. Like his Uncle Tony would approve of.

“Thanks for believe in me, Simon.”

Simon squeezed his shoulders and leaned down, kissing his forehead. “I’ve always done that, my son. I love you, Bobby. It’s late. Have the limo take you home.”

Chapter 9

Bobby forced himself to keep quiet as Alpha Tate’s query caused Tommy to muscles to tighten under my arms. Have to admit, Tony’s answer had him sitting up taller. Most would not speak so boldly and stern sounding to an alpha.

“Some disturbing news. Looks like I may be needed.”

“Uncle, please. You promised.”

“Baby, it is all right. Calm down, please. My wolf is all ready on edge.”

“Sure, come in with me.”

Bobby got up and put, tugging Tommy with him.

“Mr. Stake,” Alpha Tate wasn’t sure how to take the new turn of events surrounding Bobby, but it scared him that he was so intertwined with Mr. Tony Stake. “You know their wolves have met.”

“Just figured that out”

“Could be the best thing for Bobby.” First thought might have been that it was horrific for him to be involved with the mob leader’s nephew, but any other time, Bobby would have taken off and attacked the first wolf he met after such an event. “I’ve never seen Bobby so calm and in control in a situation like this.

“I’m not quite sure how to take the two of them yet. I’ll keep my peace on it for now.”

Crap. If he did not agree with them then . . .

* * *

“Honey, will you let me replace your bike?” Tommy’s offer was made in such a soft, skittish tone that Bobby almost agreed with him, but he could not do so.

“No baby. I’ve always made it on my own. The insurance will buy me a small used car. That will do while I save up to replace the bike.” Bus until the insurance settles with me. Hope it won’t take long. “Don’t worry about it, baby.”

“When you are ready to go tonight, just let me know.”

“Thanks. Regretfully, that will have to be soon since I have to take the bus - -” Both of them fell to their knees as Alpha Tate walked into the kitchen.

“Stand up.”

They did as told, but neither looked above his chin. Bobby’ heart ached for it to be just the two of them, but it rarely was anymore. He’ have to see him soon to calm wolf and the ache in his heart. It was getting worse before the explosion, but after . . .

“Bobby, there’s a strange scent around the area and James is in the bar. Has been since noon. This rules him out unless he paid someone, which I will check into. I know you are on a date, but I have something that belongs to you. It is now time to give it to you. Please come with me. I’ll make sure you get home.”

Damn. He did not want to end his time with Tommy. Or make it shorter than it all ready was going to have to be, but there was no denying the Alpha.

“Yes, Alpha.”

“I’ll meet you in the car.”

Bobby waited until Alpha Tate left the room, then beckoned Tommy over to him, hugging him closer than he had all night. “Make sure you lock up good. Use that fancy security system. Don’t think I could handle anything happening to you.” He claimed his lips softly and gently, nipping them before licking a path up to his ear lobe. “By, baby.” He stepped back, facing Mr. Stake. “It was a pleasure meeting you. I am sorry for whatever has followed me to Tommy’s doorstep.”

“We’ve been through worse than this.” Was that a smile? Did he like the danger? His nephew being scared? No. He came all the way out here because Tommy mentioned to his boss that there might be trouble from James. Nope. That smile meant something, but Bobby had no idea what. “Don’t keep your Alpha waiting.”

Chapter 8

Bobby’ fist tightened soon as he opened Tommy’s main door. Flames reached for the sky, leaving in their rakes a charred bike frame. A scream stuck in his throat and his wolf howled and clawed at him. Revenge. Retribution. Demanded it.

“Bobby you okay?”

“Just let me calm my wolf.”

“Tommy, I’ll call the authorities and Alpha Tate.”

Tony’s words were calm as if they dealt with this kind of stuff every day of their life. Bobby sure hoped that wasn’t the case, but considering who Tony was . . . Wasn’t much else to be done until those guy’s arrived, besides watch my pride and joy finish roasting. He took a huge breath and went and sat down on the porch step.

“Bobby, honey, can I come to you?”

“Sure, baby, come here.” Bobby pulled him in tight against his side, holding onto the closest solid thing in his life. “Took me two year to save to get that bike. Guess I go back to taking the bus. Sorry about that, baby.” Just another reason he would not stay with me. Not only could he not afford to give Tommy the life that he was accustom to, but he could not even pick up him properly for dates. Life truly sucked.

“Why are you sorry?”

“I want be able to pick you up like I should.”

“That doesn’t matter to me.”

Bobby rested his head on the top of Tommy, rubbing it back and forth, letting the sirens sweep over him. Who would do this? Why? It made no sense. Red and blue lights lit up the porch, casting a cascade of lights over Tommy. He’d look great under a disco light without clothes on. Lord hat a thought at such a time. Wolf was calmer, much. More like he was back to being horny like he was right before the bike explode. Had to be the fact that Tommy was so close and said such caring words, even if his wolf and him thought they were incorrect. Even if they sounded sincere.

“Office Scan is here.”

“He usually comes when the call is in our area.”

Bobby knew that Alpha Tate preferred for Scan to tend to the community because he was one of us. Better to have one that would do his best to keep our secret than for us to have to hide the truth of what happened. Scan can know the truth and then write it up so that the human law is not suspicious while we can handle the situation ourselves. Best outcome for everyone.

“Any enemies?” Scan never minced words. Always went straight to the center of the situation.

“Not that I can think of.”

“If you are sure,” Scan waited until he nodded, “then I have to keep this out of the human hands. Wen you need insurance forms filled out let us know.”

“Yes, Officer Scan.”

Scan tilted to the side, taking a long intense glance behind me. “Mr. Stake, when did you get in town?”

“Two hours ago, Officer.”

Alpha Tate walking up the sidewalk brought us all to a halt until he nodded and came to join our small group.

“All we can do now,” Scan sighed, shaking his head. “Is let the fire crew finish up and then we will clear out of your guys way.”

“Thanks again, Officer Scan.” Bobby held his hand out.

Bobby took a moment to look at Alpha Tate, but one look told him he could not do what his mind and heart longed to do, so he continued to soaked up the comfort that Tommy provided.

“Mr. Stake, what do we owe the visit?”

Bobby had know Uncle Tony from somewhere, but could not place him or his name. It wasn’t until that moment that it slapped him upside the head like a bullet. Not like pointing out who Uncle Tony was, was logical, which left him with replying to his remark. An honorable and upfront thing.

“Promise it is not my intention to hurt Tommy in any way.”

“That is what I like to hear.” Uncle Tony shifted his gaze to Tommy. “Why don’t you two join me for dinner?”

Tommy’s body stiffened, but before Bobby could step in to aid his man, Tommy did so for himself. “Uncle Tony, I planned on cooking for us tonight and your style of restaurants are way too fancy for me. You know that.”

Uncle Tony smiled and shrugged. “Had to try. I had Tiny take my bags to the East Wing like usual. Won’t be in your way. Going to shower and then go find me a hottie tonight.”

The house had wings? Oh boy. What was he doing here? This was not his world. He did not fit in among limos. Invites to fancy dinners. He was a down to earth, paycheck to paycheck type of guy. Tommy told him he was to, but he had money at the snap of the finger. He told him that as well. Tommy would get tired of him faster than a rabbit hopped in for Easter to deliver the eggs then faded away for another year. Bobby wanted more from Tommy. His mind knew that. Him and Tommy had not gone further than kissing, but Bobby’s mind, body and soul craved Tommy. Not just his body, but his voice. His eyes. His sweet sexy face. Those cute inward dips that shined through his tight shirts. He wanted the man that longed to live from check to check, even though he had money.

“Bobby, you with me?”

For as long as he’d have him. He’d take the hurt that would be left in Tommy’s wake when he left. “Ready to cook me some amazing food?”

“Yes, if you still want me to. I understand if you want to leave.”

They topped the stairs, pausing before entering the house.

“Why would I do that?” Bobby opened the door and waved him inside.

Tommy led them down a off white hallway with cherry hardwood floors that glistened from fresh vanish. His arms were tight at his side. His eyes kept flashing yellow. As he waved at the table and island his fingers shifted to claws.

“Chose a seat if you want.”

Bobby went over to the island, tugging out one of the heave iron framed chairs and sat. He spread his legs and snagged Tommy’s arms as he made to walk to the other side of the island. “We do not chose our family.” He pulled Tommy between his legs, kissing him gently once then licked his lower lip, nipping  and sucking away the sting. Tommy’s mouth parted, giving Bobby the opportunity to slip inside the heat of his warm mouth.

Exploration of one’s mouth had never triggered his muscled to loosen to the point they felt like noodles, but he did not lose his tight hold on Tommy. His cock did not lessen either. It hardened more and Bobby knew Tommy did not miss it pressed against his stomach. The kiss held so much fire and excitement that what had been meant to ease Tommy’s wolf’s fears of being left had only revved up Bobby’s wolf, making Bobby have to talk him back from the precipice of taking and claiming the man that he desired as his own. Bobby agreed with his wolf, but he also knew that Tommy and his wolf needed time to figure out if he wanted Bobby and his wolf.

“Now,” Bobby leaned his forehead against Tommy’s after ending the kiss, letting Tommy regain his breath. “Tell your wolf that Bobby, the man you are working on a relationship on with, wolf’s name is Cal and he’d like to meet him.”

Tommy brushed his forehead against his a couple of times then his eyes shined yellow and a gruff voice flowed from him. “Hi, Cal. My name’s Stay. Can we get to know each other while they do?”

“Sure, Stay. I would love that. For now, let’s calm down so they can relax.”

Bobby tightened his hold on Tommy as his wolf faded all the way into the background, leaving behind a limp young man who buried his face in the shirt of the man holding him tight.

“Thanks for teaching me that.”

Bobby doubted many people taught Tommy much about his wolf. He’d be glad to teach him more as they grew together. “Our wolves know one another now and are on the same page as us. It will help settle us both.” He tightened his hold on Tommy as he snuggled deeper into him. “You ready to - -”

The windows rattled as Bobby tucked himself over Tommy, pressing him to the floor. He caught sight of a red streak racing skyward through the kitchen window that overlooked the front yard. He wasn’t sure what, but something had exploded.

“Tommy!”

Nothing was raining down on them, so Bobby let Tommy up. “Let your Uncle know you are alright. I’ll see if we need the fire department.”

Chapter 7

Tommy cursed the stretched limo covering the entire front half of his driveway. He was not ready for Bobby to meet Uncle Tony. More importantly, he did not want him to know who he was. Yet. He jumped off Bobby’s bike, muttering one curse word after another.

“Do you need me to leave?” Bobby asked as he tucked his helmet under his arm.

“No.” He did not want their night to end before it started. “I just was not expecting Uncle Tony. You’ll run once you know who he is. He’ll be as nosy as a father. It will be fine. Let’s go he is on the porch.”

Bobby tucked his arm around me, tugging me closer to him. “It will be fine.l” he whispered into my ear.

“Hey, Uncle Tony.” Tommy hoped those was not th last tender words he heard from Bobby. “Nice surprise.”

“Why you say that? You talked to your boss.”

Damn. Should have known he’d run to Uncle Tony. Knew better than to go to someone who Uncle could have on his payroll.

“What is he talking about, Tommy?” Bobby’s stern voice held as much command as Uncle Tony’s did when he tossed orders around. His gaze shifted to Uncle Tony, quirking an eyebrow.

“All I know was he asked for the bouncers to be on alert for one particular guy.”

“Did James give you more trouble after I left?”

Fuck. He’d gone to his boss for extra insurance, not to alert the calvary. “No. I warned the boss so he could put the bouncers on guard. That is all. Did not think Uncle Tony had him ratting on me.”

Tommy hoped staring Uncle Tony down would get him an apology, but all it got him was the man’s famous one shoulder shrug. Bobby on the other hand seemed to accept his word, because he squeezed him tighter and asked him to introduce him.

“Tony Stake,” Tommy motioned to his Uncle Tony, “this is Bobby Timber.”

Uncle Tony did exactly what Tommy expected. Nailed him with his do not dare cross me or I’ll kill you glare then said, “I’ll warn you up front, you hurt my nephew, I’ll make you pay.”

Caleb was the only Royal Leader of the Bombardians without his Keeper or Protector, the only one that would calm his wolf side for the rest of his life. An odd man out among his cousins. Irked him so bad he was ready to break an unwritten law. He had the envelope on his desk that would tell him which human belonged to him. All he had to do was open it. Something kept stopping him. He could not get past the part that it would be breaking a law that wasn’t a law. His aggravation and struggling with indecision threw him out of sync and his cousins took note and decided to hound him until he told them what was going on with him. Meddlers, like usual.

Taylor’s life was hard. Nothing new, but he did not let it get him down. He worked hard to ensure his mom did not have to do so like she had for the first sixteen years of his life. His drunken ass father sure did nothing but sit around and drink himself into a stupor. He knew when to avoid things that would change his life. Most of the time he had not problem doing so, but that all changed when his co-worker had to take a trip to the restroom. Dang-gum women and their women hood.
