Chapter 8

Bobby’ fist tightened soon as he opened Tommy’s main door. Flames reached for the sky, leaving in their rakes a charred bike frame. A scream stuck in his throat and his wolf howled and clawed at him. Revenge. Retribution. Demanded it.

“Bobby you okay?”

“Just let me calm my wolf.”

“Tommy, I’ll call the authorities and Alpha Tate.”

Tony’s words were calm as if they dealt with this kind of stuff every day of their life. Bobby sure hoped that wasn’t the case, but considering who Tony was . . . Wasn’t much else to be done until those guy’s arrived, besides watch my pride and joy finish roasting. He took a huge breath and went and sat down on the porch step.

“Bobby, honey, can I come to you?”

“Sure, baby, come here.” Bobby pulled him in tight against his side, holding onto the closest solid thing in his life. “Took me two year to save to get that bike. Guess I go back to taking the bus. Sorry about that, baby.” Just another reason he would not stay with me. Not only could he not afford to give Tommy the life that he was accustom to, but he could not even pick up him properly for dates. Life truly sucked.

“Why are you sorry?”

“I want be able to pick you up like I should.”

“That doesn’t matter to me.”

Bobby rested his head on the top of Tommy, rubbing it back and forth, letting the sirens sweep over him. Who would do this? Why? It made no sense. Red and blue lights lit up the porch, casting a cascade of lights over Tommy. He’d look great under a disco light without clothes on. Lord hat a thought at such a time. Wolf was calmer, much. More like he was back to being horny like he was right before the bike explode. Had to be the fact that Tommy was so close and said such caring words, even if his wolf and him thought they were incorrect. Even if they sounded sincere.

“Office Scan is here.”

“He usually comes when the call is in our area.”

Bobby knew that Alpha Tate preferred for Scan to tend to the community because he was one of us. Better to have one that would do his best to keep our secret than for us to have to hide the truth of what happened. Scan can know the truth and then write it up so that the human law is not suspicious while we can handle the situation ourselves. Best outcome for everyone.

“Any enemies?” Scan never minced words. Always went straight to the center of the situation.

“Not that I can think of.”

“If you are sure,” Scan waited until he nodded, “then I have to keep this out of the human hands. Wen you need insurance forms filled out let us know.”

“Yes, Officer Scan.”

Scan tilted to the side, taking a long intense glance behind me. “Mr. Stake, when did you get in town?”

“Two hours ago, Officer.”

Alpha Tate walking up the sidewalk brought us all to a halt until he nodded and came to join our small group.

“All we can do now,” Scan sighed, shaking his head. “Is let the fire crew finish up and then we will clear out of your guys way.”

“Thanks again, Officer Scan.” Bobby held his hand out.

Bobby took a moment to look at Alpha Tate, but one look told him he could not do what his mind and heart longed to do, so he continued to soaked up the comfort that Tommy provided.

“Mr. Stake, what do we owe the visit?”
