The Wampus Cat is an American folklore creature This
creature is a half mountain lion and half woman who stalks the forest of
Eastern Tennessee. The Cherokee believed it to be a beautiful Native American
woman. This creature came about after a woman hid beneath a mountain lion to
listen to the stories told by men around a campfire. A medicine man discovered
her and punished her by transforming her into a monstrous cat. Now she roams
howling to protect her fat and seeking revenge.
