Chapter 59

The evening was long and tuff. He’d had to explain to Bill what the motorcycle was and why they were going to use it. How to get on it and how to move with him. Then there was explaining the shower to him. The man truly knew nothing about being a human, let along living a life as a supernatural being. Life was going to be challenging for them. Least someone had told him what a bed was for and he’d been excited about being able to sleep on something other than the ground. Eating had been another challenge, or Bobby thought it would be, but Bill told him that Alpha Kind showed him the forks, spooks, and knives. Little had been taught to him, but every bit helped. Guess.

Bobby had just fallen into a comfortable sleep when a stake ripped through his chest. Or so it felt like. He bolted upright in his bed, covering his chest, expecting blood to cover his hand. Then heat so intense that his skin might as well have blistered consumed him, forcing him to throw the covers to the foot of the bed. He laid there gasping for air and withering for an hour then it all faded away, leaving behind a sweaty mess of a man. Initial instinct was to call Tommy, but he knew better. Whatever had happened someone else had to take care of. Tony would never let anything happen to Tony. Daddy Simon promised to take care of him. Between the two Tommy would be tucked safely inside his house, pining for him, but safe.

He got up and took a shower and then meandered around the motel suite until time for him to order them breakfast. A knock at the door about half an hour later had him opening without asking who it was. Needless to say, he took three steps back when he came face to face with the Master, Alpha Kind, Daddy Simon and a strange bald man with round rimmed glasses.

“Tell me what has happened?”

Rude, but there was no reason for all of them to show up so early or at all. Something had gone down and since Daddy Simon was here . . . He wasn’t going to think that. Nope. Tommy was safe and sound tucked away with Tony. That’s why neither of them are here. Whatever had happened had to do with his biological parents and them being pissed at his refusal to speak to them the day before. That’s all it was. Simple.

Bill came out wearing a pair of boxes. “Where are . . . Oh . . .”

“Bill your bags of clothes are at the foot of the little sofa. Take them to your room and stay until we call you back in.”

Soon as the door shut Daddy Simon took his stuff to the other room. “I’ll put this stuff away, you take a seat, Bobby.”

Habit of listening to Daddy Simon was the only reason he took a seat when his wolf told him to scream at them to get on with it.

“Bobby,” The Master said, “About midnight Tommy killed his Mr. Stake and then himself.”

Fuck. That’s what had happened. His connection to his mate had been ended. Why had he not considered it then? No reason to. Tommy was not the kind of person to do such. Kind hearted. Smart. Calm. Good natured. He would not . . .

“You sure?” He looked at Alpha Kind.

Alpha Kind’s nod had Bobby throwing his head back, but stopping a second before he released a howl. He let his head fall forward. Tears fell onto his hands that were clamped in his lap. It was his fault. Nope. He had not been the one that wanted to leave. It had not been his . . . Tony had made the restriction, but he had no way to know that such a twisted situation would arise and force Tommy to make a decision that would split them up. They should never had been placed in such a spot. It should have been simple enough for Bobby to train Bill while he lived in a place by himself after he got the foundation of how to live. It would have only taken a couple of weeks. That would have been manageable, then him and Tommy would have been back together. It was the Master’s fault. He deserved to be tore into. Ripped from his mate? Did he have a mate? Does he know what he had done to him?

“Mr. Timbers,” the bald headed guy lowered his head so he could look me in the eyes, “I’m so sorry for your loss. I knew Tommy well. He was a great man.” The words were more comfort than the man knew. Least he knew that Tommy wasn’t the man that would kill and take his own life. He was more than that. “He left this for you.”

A long white envelope with my name written in the pretty cursive writing that belonged to his mate.

Honey,

These past few weeks was the best of my life, but me and Stay can’t live without you and Cal so I am taking my final journey. Because of Uncle’s promise everything goes to his company, so I have only two things to leave you. One is the picture of our wedding day. Two is your ring. I want you to do me a favor, take the Master’s seat and run the wolf world like it should be. I know I ask the impossible since a Mixed can not challenge the Master, but you would have taken him. I want you to find someone to take care of you. Let Simon know I am sorry I took his partner’s life.

Love always,

Your baby.

He folded the paper and slipped it back into the envelope, pressing it to his chest. He was about to tell the Master to leave when he spotted Daddy Simon lingering by the bedroom door. “Daddy Simon, are you alright?”

He shook his head. “I am. When he caused you two to separate I lost all love I had for him.”

“How are you?”

“I am lost at this moment.”

“I’m afraid the Master has more.”

More? He felt his eyebrow raise and his fist ball up. Lord he wished he could do as Tommy asked. If only Mixed could take the Master’s seat. Cal was eight times stronger than the Master. And someone needed to teach other supernaturals how to not be bigots.

The Master sat up taller and held his head higher as if he pronounced his power it would make his next pronouncement easier to take. Nothing the man said would be of any use to me. Or matter to me.

“As a week ago, I pardoned James Taylor. He is a lone wolf living in this area.”

Wrong. Shocked him. James had caused problem for him and Tommy, but there was no him and Tommy anymore. Guess there was no issue for them to have. And all he cared about was getting on with his life. Helping his brother.

“No problem.”

“Time to bring out Bill so I can explain what your biological family admitted to.”
