Chapter 4

“It took some manuvering, but I managed to get the interview setup for thirty minutes from now.” Julian and his whirlwind self rushed in with an army of people instep behind him with their arms full of cloth bags and makeup kits.

“Will be a fast job, but we can make sure he has the right apperance for a man who never wiggled his way into anyone’s way of life.”

Javis might have laughed at the hairstylist if her words hadn’t been full of truth.

“Jessica, he never done such.” Juilan rolled his eyes as he laid his hand on Javis’s arm. “Andy Candyman was thrilled to be contacted. I’ve given him the list of questions that are acceptable. All will enhance all the good you have done in your political career since you came onto the scene.”

“Julian, you need to call all this off.” He jerked his arm from him and stepped back from the grasp of one of the group of people who Juilan brought in.

“What do you mean? We talked about this. We have to get ahead of this man’s negativity.”

“Yes, but . . . things have changed.”

“Did someone go back in time?”

Oh boy. Here he goes.

“Didn’t think so. Did someone already rebuke the speaker’s negative points?”

“No.”

“Then we have to.”

“We are not going to at this time.”

“We agreed we were.”

“I need time.”

“Why?”

Mother said so. Couldn’t say that. Shouldn’t have to tell him that Mateo needed time to dig into his background. He knew the man was being brought into the fray.

“We have to dispute what he said.”

How did he expect him to do that? The man said nothing but the truth. Every word. Couldn’t rebuke words of pure trurth. What did Juilan want him to do, get up there and tell the world that he had infiltrated the Senate in order to get his kind a foothold on the government. Or so that he could one day run for the President position and change it to the Commander and Chief and announce that Vampires live among the humans and had control of their government.

“You have to make a stand againsit what he said.”

Not according to his Mother. She said for him to keep himself quiet until Dracula gave him a route to take. He agreed with keeping his mouth shut, but only until he knew more about Enapay Chavos.

“You know what has to be done. Do it and be done with it. You have to.”

Damn it. Why did Julian think he had to do anything? He’d done what everyone said all his life. Only one he had to listen to was the Royal Blood Society. Not a little weasle of a human.

“Evreyone out!” He pointed at the door as he sidestepped the reach of another person’s grasp.

Thankfully, the group that had accompanied Juilian knew he meant business and rushed to the door, leaving behind their garment bags and makeup boxes. Juilan paid his outburst no attention. He kept right on scrolling through something on his phone.

“Why’d you do that?”

“Told you, press conference is off.”

“Told you it wasn’t.”

“You are going to stop whatever you are doing and call Andy Candyman and tell him that the Commander and Chief has decided not to respond to Mr. Enapay Chavos’ earlier televised speech.”

“The hell I will. Do you konw what Andy will do with such a statement?”

He could see the headline. COMMANDER AND CHEIF REFUSES TO RESPONDS. HOW MUCH TRUTH DOES CHAVOS KNOW.

“Let him run with what he wants. I am making no response until I have more details on Chavos. Until then . . . our lips are sealed. Bottom line.”

“It can not be.”

“It is.” Javis toed a makeup box that had been sat at the foot of the chair in front of his chair. “Get all this crap out of my office.”

“You can not do this, Sir.”

“Can do what I wish. I am Commander and Cheif of the United States. I can take a shit on live television if I wish.”

“Sir, if you do this you will destroy over half of your approval ratings.” Juilan tugged at the end of his perfectly styled hair. “You do not want that to happen. You have to keep the people on your side. You know that.”

“I know exactly what I have to and what I do not have to do.” He jab his finger at the door. “Interview is a no. Get this crap out of my office. And you go with it.”

“Sir, this is not the best course of action to take. We have to keep appara - -”

He rached down, grabbing some kind of heavy metal compartmentalized box that had scraves and feathers hanging half out of it and slung it across the room, right into the photo of Geroge Washington. The glass splitterned, leaving behind spiderwebs across his face and large cracks down his chest and arms. Would be the perfect manner of treatment for Juilan if he kept on telling him what he had to do. He was the one with the Political Science degree. He was the one that had put together a team that got him voted into a small town mayoral position and then right into a Senator’s seats all within a two year span. Two years after that, his selected team had him on the presidental ballat. It wasn’t until he’d signed the new laws into effect that he brought Juilan into the mix of things to help with the Social Media aspects. He was sure that whatever arose from the one speech that Enapay Chavos made could be handled by his closest crew.

“I do as I please when I please and at the behest of no one. Now get yourself and all this stuff out of this room.”

He was done fooling around with Social Presence assholes. They knew very little about him and he cared less about them than he did a rabbit in the forest. Javis pointed at the tall, brooding Secret Service Guard at the door and told him to find Elijah. Elijah wouldn’t be far away. Fact, he was most likely outside the door listening in, awaiting for him to be called in to take care of the annoying Julian.

He wasn’t far off bass. Elijah swantered into the room and right up to Juilan. He cocked his head and gave it a shake. “Julian,” Elijah’s soothing voice eased the rage that Julian’s pushing had ingitated. “Time for your and your swirling storm of a mess to leave and let the Commander and Cheif handle his next meeting.”

“His next meeting is with - -”

“That wasn’t a request.” Elijah waved at someone at the door. “Help gather this stuff and escort him and it out. The Commander and Chief has a meeting to get to.” Elijah skirted around Julian as a Secret Serive Guard gripped his arm and tugged him towards the door. “Sir, are you ready to go to the Office and meet with Mr. William.”

Ah . . . Alexander. He’d not seen his one and only Vampire friend in months. Oh, he had many so called Vampire friends among the world, but none of them were as faithful to him as Alexander had been. They known each other for over eight hundred years and suffered together during some of their tuffest trials and tribulations. One being when Alexander lost his one and ture love, his Heart Owner. It had all but taken him from this world. It might have any other Vampire, but Alexander was Sired by Dracula’s baby brother. Don’t mean Vampire brother either. His human brother, who Dracula had turned into a Vampire when he all but died on the battle field at the age of sixteen. The tale goes that William carried as much strength and skills as Dracula. That once or twice the two had gone at each other and the fights ended in draws, both succeeding to live another day. Always wondered why Alexander refused to be on the Royal Blood Society. He’d asked Alexander several times and the man ignored him every time. He was sure there was a stroy between him and Dracula, but he doubted it’d ever be unearthed by him.

“Thank you, Elijah.” Javis took in a huge breath, loving the space that had once again consumed his living room. “But is Alexander really here. Did not think he was coming any time soon.”

“He arrived about five minutes ago. Came in through the back.” Elijah chuckled. “Pissed the Secert Security Guards off.”

“He always does.”

Man loved to ruffle those guy’s feathers. Let them know that it did not matter how many guards they put on him, that a Vampire would get by them if they desired to. Spoke volumes to the state that Julian and his little prep crew had driven Javis into that he had not taken note that Alexander had arrived.

“Did you get him settled?”

“Got him his favorite leapord blood and let him into the office untili I came and rescued you.”

“Thanks for that, by the way.”

“He really riled you up, didn’t he?” Julian was known for getting on his last nerve, but he’d never driven him to the point of throwing things while in front of people. “Least your tantrum was a human type one.”

“What’s that mean?”

“It means,” Alexander snorted, “that you have been around them for way too fucking long.”

“Hey, watch that.” Elijah snorted. “I might take it that you despise me.”

“I might. You are one of them.”

“Yeah, but you prefer not to chow down on us.”

“That I do, little human. That I do.”

“You two have a nice visit. I’ll run interference until you guys are done.”

“Thanks, Elijah.” Javis nodded his way as he left the room. He went over to the bar and small fridge he kept in his office. He tugged free a bag of O Positive that he kept there for him. Unlike his best Vampire Friend, he prefered human blood over animal blood. Most thought he lived off of animal blood, and when he was in public and had to eat, he did consume the vile stuff, but in his own home . . . blood banks provided him with human blood. “What do I owe this unexpected, but greatly appreciated visit.”
